It is never ethical for producers to put unrealistic images on their products. When consumers are buying items they are usually drawn in by the image that is labeled on the product. If a hair product was made in order to add moisture to hair, it shouldn't have an image of a female with long and lustful hair because its selling false reality. When a consumer uses that hair product they won't magically have hair like the woman displayed, once they use the product. There's not a single person who should be tricked into buying a product because of what they are visually sold. Sheba and Fancy Feast both had advertisements in the magazine, but one of the advertisements is clearly more effective. The Fancy Feast advertisement is more effective than the Sheba advertisement because of product placement, color, and model placement.
I believe it is perfectly okay to market a retail product to someone who is unknowing, it should be on the consumer to research what they are buying before actually doing so. Because there are several options available of commodities, people might be in a dilemma to choose what product they looking for. In fact, that dilemma is not real, it is just what people want. When people go shopping there are limitless choices of one product made by different companies, all choices of this product basically do the same thing, but what makes them different is the brand’s name.
