In order for the future to be filled with effulgence, the youth population must learn from their mistakes but if the adults are bulwarking the adolescent from making any mistakes than how will our world still perpetuate to develop if children are not learning anything incipient? That is why students of ACHS should have the right to dye their hair to whatever hair color they optate in order to make unnatural hair color prevalent in our society and so that they can additionally prove that your hair color does not define whether you can consummate a task or not. Some may state that dying your hair into an unnatural hair color makes you look unprofessional and though that could be true the authenticity is that it is not the hair dye that makes you look unprofessional it is genuinely how you style your hair. The girl with neon green hair did not divert me nor any of my peers from being prosperous in our choir class but the girl who styled her hair into spikes was definitely a diversion. Her long, brown, spiked up hair made it arduous to visually perceive the board if you were sitting behind her and her hair style made her look very unprofessional when we were in our choir competition. In fact when we were in the building that we were having the competition many of the students in the building were persistently optically canvassing the girl with the spiked hair instead of the neon haired girl and when we received our scores from our judges all three judges commented that her hair was making it arduous for them to see the people behind her and we were standing on raisers! If this is not convincing enough don’t worry because I have
Parents need to share some of the blame when it comes to the issue of young adults making damaging personal choices, such as tattoos, piercing, and shocking hair styles that can have a negative impact on their future, and ability to land a job. Parents need to ensure that they are not enabling their children to make wrong personal choices by them giving the example that it is acceptable to look and act a certain way, nor send the wrong message. Parents of young adult’s need exhibit moral behavior, as well exhibit respectable personal choices themselves. In today’s generation, it is understandable that we live in a society where anything goes, nevertheless the parents cannot ignore or condone damaging personal appearance behavior their young adult children choose to
Some existing Literature on Natural Hair The existing literature on ethnic and racial studies among African-Americans has focused on issues pertaining to beauty and body politics especially on natural hair. Spellers and Moffitt assert that the body politics that one assumes, guides how one relates to a particular political ideology in a particular society. Black natural hair is considered as a way by which the true identity of African women can be understood (Jacobs-Huey). It is a symbol of power among black women; it influences how people are treated by others.
It is no surprise hair texture varies based on ethnic background. But what exactly determines the hair texture of someone based on their ethnic background? In today’s society, image is everything and hair is a great part of one’s image. In fact, the total revenue of the hair care industry in 2013 was $64.8 billion, according to the 2013 Professional Salon Industry Haircare Study. Because the hair industry is so lucrative, it is safe to say that hair is important to many.
Hair dyeing became popular in the 1950’s, at that time, about 7% of American women chemically colored their hair. Today, about 75% of American women chemically change the color of their locks. Every day, new techniques and styles are added to the world of hair. Hair Colorists spend their time helping their clients change their look and add some fresh pigment to their clients’ faded strands. Although professional hair coloring has its challenges, hair colorists have a wide variety of creative outlets, have close personal connections with their clients and help them to build self-confidence and aid them in expressing their individuality.
Self-expression is of importance in any child’s life, but self-expression shouldn’t be a detriment. In my opinion, the way this generation dresses now is definitely harming their character and reputation. Many business professionals, professors, and more find this way of dressing offensive. Parents face endless amounts of criticism, and backfire for allowing their child (ren) to step of their home in such a fashion. It’s also harmful to future generations, because they follow in the footsteps of those older than them. Children learn by exa...
Gabrielle Jones is an average teenager. She is a typical girl that is educated, family oriented, and possesses all criteria that puts her within the American standard, except one detail, her hair. Gabrielle is of African descent and has retained her natural hair texture for almost 12 years. Occasionally, Gabrielle views models in the magazine as a symbol of beauty because they have straight, manageable hair unlike her kinky curls. Eventually, Gabrielle decides to make a drastic decision that would change her hair, she decides to relax her hair. She takes a look in the mirror and but what can she see? She could have kept her curly hair which was associated with her for many years, however she did not recognize herself, she just criticized her features for not being of standard according to society? Although, Gabrielle is a fictional character, however, her story is reality for many girls who have thick, curly hair.
All children express themselves differently. Clothing choice is a major part of their expression. Whether the child is wearing colorful shoes, an all black tuxedo, or religious T-shirt, he/she is sending a direct message. This form of expression can help teachers get to know the student individually. This is beneficial when engaging in conversation with the student. The student will in turn find the classroom setting more enjoyable. When children are required to wear uniforms, their freedom of expression is limited. There is no variation between what the students are wearing each day, and there are no clues to what the students’ personalities are. All of the children are seen as the same and having the same personality. Without the ability to express themselves through clothing, children may choose a more disruptive way in doing so such as verbally and/or physically. As long as the clothing children decide to wear is not disrupting others, it is better for students to express themselves that way. Ultimately, uniforms prohibit students from expressing themselves in a non-disruptive
High school is typically a time when kids begin to distinguish themselves from one another. Students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both fit in and stand out simultaneously. Being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and outward appearance as the means to manifest this individuality. Thus, students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven deterrents to student violence; are a "Band-Aid" to cover up the real problems faced by children and teens; and they violate students' right of self-expression, depriving them of their search for identity.
The Most Gorgeous Shades of Hair Color for African American Women For many years, we’ve seen different kinds of hair trends specifically targeted for black women. A woman’s tresses has become a way of expressing themselves. In fact, it has become an extension of a black woman’s personality and lifestyle.
In a public setting like a high school, how a student or students dress, can have a negative effect on the entire student body, even with a dress code. On
At the beginning of the 20th century almost no parent or faculty had any concerns with how students dressed to attend school. Nowadays, though, this is a giant concern among students, parents, and school board officials. Many arguments have been made over the matter saying uniforms should be required and enforced in schools. But, uniforms should not be required as they ultimately eliminate freedom of expression, promote conformity over individuality, may have a detrimental effect on students self image, emphasize the socioeconomic divisions they are supposed to eliminate, and lastly, school uniforms in public schools undermine the promise of a free education by adding an extra expense for families.
Worrying more about others, rather than themselves, students pay more attention to the appearance of their peers instead of their academics. To begin, if school uniforms became apart of the school policy, students’ academics would improve phenomenally. Hanley noted that “The reason for the policy [was] to further improve ascending test scores and provide a safe, comfortable learning environment” (A1+). Clearly, school administrators wanted to improve test scores, and they figured if students dressed the same, then they would have no other choice but to focus on their school work. If the students can concentrate on their school work, then they will have high self- esteem. Furthermore, Valdez believes that school uniforms, positively, will change student academics: “… [they] decrease self consciousness and increase self esteem...” (14). Reasonable and realistic, students who feel better about themselves will succeed in school rather than those who have poor self-esteem. Not only do school uniforms encourage students to have a better attitude about themselves, but they also change the environment in which students learn....
Kids and teens have the right to pick out what they wear, sure it may take a bit longer, but in the long run it is worth it. Everyone has the right to express themselves freely and by the way they look. It can tell what kind of person they are. Think about it, you go into a school that has uniforms you see everyone wearing the same stuff who is who? What kind of personality could they have, maybe one like being a brick in the wall. Walk into a school without uniforms and you can instantly tell anyone’s personality by what they wear, so they express their emotions through their clothing.
Proponents of school uniforms agree that students’ school uniforms are not a violation of their First Amendment of the U.S. constitution right. In the case of Canady v. Bossier Parish School Board, the Fifth Circuit upheld that “students remain free to wear what they want after school hours. Students may still express their views through other mediums during the school day” (Canady v. Bossier Parish School Board). Advocates for school uniforms argue that school is for learning, and that self-expression is for after-school hours. Some people will say that there is room for self-expression such that students’ can use hairstyles and accessories to start forming their individuality. However, proponents of school uniforms need to
Moreover, school uniforms can diminish an individual’s courage while conflicting with the human desperation to be divergent. Although several people believe that these uniforms raise confidence, the facts, research, and studies preformed by various examiners prove otherwise and ultimately dismiss this claim. For example, in the article "Debate Over School Uniforms Rages On" the author Jack explains,
