COBRA was passed in 1986 and provides guidelines for continuous health coverage in case of sudden loss of a job or even death among other situations that cannot be avoided. Employees as well as employers have to participate in the program to make it effective. The employees are guided by the “Employee Benefits Security Administration” and the “Employee Retirement Income Security Act” to fill out forms of compliance. The law was designed to find temporary solutions for continued medical insurance so that the unemployed can still enjoy and access healthcare facilities despite the financial misfortunes that may render them unable to support themselves as well as their families as they find a permanent solution (Magill, 2009).

With the increase of unemployment in the United States, people find it difficult to make ends meet, so they rely heavily on unemployment benefits. Unemployment checks enable people to support their family and pay their monthly bills while they are seeking employment. My friend James has been working for Safeway for about eight years and got laid off with a wife and a two-year-old daughter to support. With the help of the unemployment check, he was able to provide for his family temporarily until he found a job where he was able to provide for his family permanently. Indeed in 2010, unemployment benefits kept 3.2 million people above the poverty line—which is roughly $17, 300 for a family of three. A report from the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) gives some indication of what might lie ahead for people who exhaust their benefits (Kaufmann). ...
Taylor, argues that the PRA policy promoted employment but reduced some industry’s’ output. Taylor confirms that the PRA emerged August 1933 to address employment crisis during the great depression. For instance, the PRA emerged as a means to increase wage rate that would potentially increase aggregate purchasing power, spending, and company’s output. Taylor’s explanation helps because it identifies wage and industry output increase as two of the PRA’s main functions. In the author’s opinion, the Great Depression would have had industries wanting to maximize their firm profit while increase wage rate. Furthermore the reduction of the workweek from 45–50 hours to around 35 hours would have allowed work to be spread among more people. For instance, three jobs could effectively be created where there were previously two. The author explains that the Roosevelt administration’s claimed that the reemployment programme was a fantastic success, which created 4 million jobs during November 1933. Taylor’s research finds the ‘share the work’ goal of the PRA was achieved, as an additional 2.47 million Americans were able to draw

Unemployment can cause different emotions such as stress, anxiety, fear and most of all depression. It creates low self-esteem and makes you want to isolate yourself from others. Unemployment can cause violence in the family and the economy. Some people cope with unemployment quite well by setting goals. Setting goals while b...
As Canadian's fertility rate fells, baby boomers retires, immigration and foreign workers becomes very important for the increase of labor demands in the Canadian's job market. The government is planning to reduce the application waiting time and therefore there will be more newcomers coming in the next fewer years. Canadian companies will then have many experienced and foreign trained applicants where they can help Canadian companies to increase their foreign trade and to build a better relationship with the other country. However, new comers have difficulties in finding employment because of their unrecognized foreign qualifications, non Canadian work experienced and the lack of support in the settlement programs where they get help to find employment.

The main reason the welfare system is functioning in Britain is to help millions of people who have been made unemployed in recent times through no fault of their own. The most common causes of unemployment are getting fired and layed off for specific reasons. People might get layed off if a company is going out of business or maybe if there are positions in the company that are no longer needed. It’s difficult to find a job right away after being fired. Companies don’t want to hire someone who has just been fired for reasons such as failure to do a sufficient job, not showing up to work, stealing, etc. It’s also hard to find a job instantly after being layed off. In some cases the economy is down and it is hard to find any work in general.
