Is there more to Undertale? Undertale, by Toby "Radiation" Fox was released not too long ago, just when 2015 was about to end, and has since quickly amassed an impressive fanbase, going as far as crowning itself with the "best game of all time" Gamefaqs award. The game is fairly good, but does it deserve such a treatment? Many theories have since popped up, trying to explain the bizarre success of this game. People all over the Internet have presented theories that range from the mundane, such as the game being designed from the ground up to be a viral hit, to the absolutely paranoiac, such as a conspiracy by secret organizations to push the game as an example of progressivism in videogames, passing by pointing out the fact that Toby already had a small fanbase before releasing the game or simply that the popularity is the work of clever Internet trolls. But could there be more to it? Warning: heavy Undertale spoilers ahead. When we first boot Undertale, the game shows us a brief cutscene in which the player character is shown falling into a sinkhole, then it proceeds to ask us to input our name (which will come later into play). …show more content…
He will tell us that the heart we are controlling in that screen is in fact our SOUL, and that we may make it grow stronger if we eat "friendship pellets" that will augment our LOVE. After touching one of those "friendship pellets", we discover that they hurt quite a bit. Of course, Flowey is in fact a murderous maniac trying to teach us the mechanics of death, rather than helping. Luckily for us, a goat named Toriel repels him before we get hurt, and bows to sweetly take care of us during our stay in the
Based on McKenzie Wark’s game theory written in his article called “Agony (On the Cave)”. Games, like our society, have its own rules that everyone should follow without questioning. Everyone is treated equally and can’t escape from these rules’ controlling power. The relationship between rules and games is also revealing in the film Wreck-it Ralph. The film talks about the main character, Ralph, leaving his own game, escaping to the “Sugar Rush” game, fighting with Turbo, and finally solving a big threat to the whole game world. In this scene, Turbo, the antagonist, disturbs the “Road Blaster” game because he envies its taking over his place and ultimately moving out from the arcade. In this essay, I will use Wark’s theory as the lens to discuss
In my creative writing project for English 9, I chose to make a series of six letters between two characters from the books Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and Son of the Mob by Korman Gordon. The two characters I chose were Romeo Montague from Romeo and Juliet, and Vince Luca from Son of the Mob. In the letters, I have the two boys talk about their lives. As Romeo is dead already, I have the two boys focus mainly on Vince’s life. Romeo offers countless pieces of advice on how to help Vince deal with the problems of dating the daughter of his father’s worst enemy. Throughout the conversation, the two boys become close each other, brought together by the problems that they both share experience in.

Video games bring a sense of the reality to most people, especially if you are a hardcore gamer. They bring reality by essentially creating a virtual world that feels as if you are living in the real world. Lucky Wander Boy by D.B. Weiss is transmitting a certain message to a certain audience. The novel is intended to enthrall an audience consisted of video game enthusiasts around their late twenties and thirties. Lucky Wander Boy is sending a message to the audience, the message is experiencing living the real life through a video game; just like they may have experienced before. The book is fundamentally illustrating the thoughts and experiences this group of people might have gone through during the golden age of video game. The book does this by showing us the narrative of Adam Pennyman, the protagonist of the book coping with his struggles through a video game. Video games revive Adams actual life to some extent; without the game he would not find any point in his life because of all the struggles and negativity he has been through. The book Lucky Wander Boy by W.B. Weiss is about a man named Adam Pennyman during the golden age of video games trying to find the perfect game. Throughout the book Adam Pennyman is creating an encyclopedia of every game he has created. The encyclopedia is called Catalogue of Obsolete Entertainments and in it he has referenced video games such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, and many others. The encyclopedia ends up becoming more personal instead of reviewing the games. Later in the novel Adam begins to lose interest in the encyclopedia because he wants to find out how the game, Lucky Wander Boy, that he played for hours on end as a kid ended. Adam eventually ends up getting a job as a copywrite...
Even though the release of RE5 was not for another two years after the trailer release, the media attention it had initially gained had not died down. Press and online forum discussions across both sides of the Atlantic demonstrated the opposing viewpoints of the game. Such headlines as: “The Resident Evil 5 race issue”, “Resident Evil 5 is ra...
Looking into the minds of young girls and boys, superheroes is what many will find. The superheroes always having their trusty sidekicks and they will fight the evil villain to save the world. Many wonder how a superhero and a sidekick or a villian and their crazy friends actually work so well together, even though they're complete opposites. Well this is dramatic foil, a concept used by writers, comic creators, and screen writers to make the perfect duo. There is so many examples of dramatic foil. There's one in every play, book, comic, or story in general. Three great examples of dramatic foil are Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs from the Infernal Devices series; Harley Quinn and Joker from Batman; and Jace Herondale and Alec Lightwood from the Mortal Instruments series. These characters are the basis of a great foil.
No matter where you go, there is a high chance that you will meet an illegal resident of that country. Even with today's high security, many people still cross America’s border without the correct paperwork. When they come over, they face similar obstacles that former Okies had to deal with. “Okie” is a term used to describe the people from Oklahoma, and usually has a negative connotation. These obstacles include: being persecuted and struggling with daily life, but with these come some minor differences.
In 1998, the US software industry sold $6.3 billion worth of video games (see Unknown). Not bad for an industry that didn't exist 25 years ago! Yet despite its continued growth, all is not well in the video game industry. School shootings in Littleton, Colorado; Pearl, Mississippi; Paducah, Kentucky; Conyers, Georgia and many other towns have shocked the nation (see Malcolm). Understandably, grieving parents and sympathetic citizens are searching for a cause for this "outbreak" of youth violence. It is natural to assume, "when children, the symbol of innocence, commit the severest of crimes, then something must be going wrong with society." (see Maker)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Opinion Essay “Those who kept silent yesterday will remain silent tomorrow” -Elie Wiesel. The Holocaust is a very common topic to read and to be taught about, especially in the form of fictional books. It is usually taught to make people remember what really happened in the past so that history doesn’t repeat itself.
Little Red Riding Hood’s Journey to Grandma’s House “Come, Little Red Riding Hood, here are some cakes and a flask of wine for you to take to grandmother; she is weak and ill, and they will do her good.”(pg. 14, Grimm’s), says her mother to Little Red Riding Hood. Because Grandma wasn’t feeling the best, the wolf was easily able to overcome her. And so the wolf easily devoured her grandmother. The Hero’s Journey in Little Red Riding Hood is Little Red Riding Hood on her way to her grandmother’s house, by leaving the house, traveling through the woods, and arriving at her grandmother’s house.
I’m a problem solver because videogames have taught me to stay to the very end, solve some puzzles, feel accomplished for beating the game, and sometimes have intriguing stories.
An antihero is something that a lot of people tend to think about it in a fairly one dimensional facet. They imagine an antihero as a clear-cut contrast to the main hero, but that’s just not what an antihero is. An antihero is a literary device that can be used in many different ways. Some antiheroes are just clear cut contrasts, but most are not. There are some antiheroes, mostly seen in modern movies and TV, that are the actual hero, but they are fundamentally flawed. There are other antiheroes that are not the main character, but they do share many qualities. Dictionary.com defines an antihero as “a protagonist who lacks the attributes that make a heroic figure.” The antihero as an idea has become more and more popular, especially since the 1960’s
To modern day society, the name “Robin Hood” brings about the discussion of a heroic outlaw in English folklore. Although many people see Robin Hood as just an archer and a swordsman of Nottingham, he was so much more. He worked for the common good of the people and despised the wealthy. In current day, he is infamous for robbing the rich and giving to the poor alongside his Merry Men. There are countless tales and ballads relating to Robin Hood. Some tales include; “Robin Hood and the Monk,” “A Gest of Robyn Hode,” and “Robyn Hood and the Shryff off Nottyngham.” There are many more tales with the earliest dating back to the fourteenth century. With there being so many tales, many people question if Robin Hood was real or fake, and others believe
