In hip hop their were many artists in New York and California making their names big in the 1980s. These artists brought influence and helped spark interest in the hip hop game. There were two young men who took interest and were listening in Port Arthur, Texas. These artists learned from the artist before them and created their own style of music. They rhymed about drugs and women and their style was about to blow up in the early 1990s. This group was the Underground Kingz. What was the history of this group? Although, their music was a mixture of artists that they admired such as; Run DMC, KRS One and Dr. Dre, the group was still able to stay original to who they truly are. Bun B’s battle approach to every song that he performed on and Pimp C’s high voice and expertise at making unique beats is what made the group who they were. Many other hip hop artists consider UGK legends in the hip hop game. Bun B and Pimp C look at themselves as artist just being themselves. Pimp C stated in an interview, “This how we talk down here, some of us got a little deeper accent then others but this how we towk, so I said fuck it we gonna talk like this on a record.” They do not necessarily feel the were the originators of the down south style of music. They feel as if everyone down south talks and holds themselves in the same manner and they felt the same way about artists in New York and California, thats where they are from so thats the way they present themselves. UGK received a BET award for Best Group and Video of the Year in 2007, for their song “International Player’s Anthem”; which released on the album “Underground Kingz”. On December 5, 2012, UGK was inducted into the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame. The museum is located in Port Arthur, Texas and they wanted to honor the hip hop artists for all they had accomplished and also because they were Port Arthur …show more content…
Today they still inspire many other hip hop artists like Young Jeezy, Le$ and Rick Ross. Their southern style in which they do not like to take credit for is imitated by young artist everyday. Their stories of making it even when the odds were against them will always be inspirational especially to the artists in South Texas. I will always have a place for their music in my heart. I never had to live any of the moments that their songs were about, but it has always been nice to live through their rhymes.

How does one pay homage to such a great and revolutionary legacy? The most common way that this Facebook page seems to achieve this goal is to post portion of lyrics from various albums, sometimes they state where that verse is from and sometimes they don’t. One can tell the true fans of the group, because not only do they comment the title of the song, they list which album it is from and continue on with the next verse. What makes this type of homage so special is when viewers look through the comments and view the profiles of the people who comment on the posts. Members are able to notice how different each person is from the next. On March 31, 2010 someone posted, “Fuck the police comin’ straight from the underground young nigga got it bad cause I’m brown, and not the other color so police think they have authority to kill a minority…”(Post 1) One comment that exemplifies the diversity of fans is one made from a Caucasian woman in her mid-forties. She commented saying, “This is something to make me see the world in a new way...

From its conception in the 1970's and throughout the 1980's, hip hop was a self-contained entity within the community that created it. This means that all the parameters set for the expression came from within the community and that it was meant for consumption by the community. Today, the audience is from outside of the community and doesn’t share the same experiences that drive the music. An artists’ success hinges on pleasing consumers, not the community. In today's world, it isn’t about music that rings true for those who share the artists' experiences, but instead, music that provides a dramatic illusion for those who will never share the experiences conveyed. This has radically changed the creative process of artists and the diversity of available music. Most notably, it has called in to question the future of hip hop.

Hip-Hop is a cultural movement that emerged from the dilapidated South Bronx, New York in the early 1970’s. The area’s mostly African American and Puerto Rican residents originated this uniquely American musical genre and culture that over the past four decades has developed into a global sensation impacting the formation of youth culture around the world. Hip-Hop proved to be successful as both a creative outlet for expressing the struggles of life amidst the prevailing crime and violence as well as an enjoyable and cheap form of recreation.

Conventionally, there are more than twenty derivatives of Hip-Hop. The Hip-Hop style which is the most familiar to the world is known as “conversational rap” (Higgins, 2013).
