Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection of the intestinal tract and occasionally the bloodstream, and is from the Salmonella species. Risk of infection is greatest for travellers to developing countries who will have prolonged exposure to potentially contaminated food and beverages. Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection of the intestinal tract and occasionally the bloodstream.

If you drink water, buy it bottled or bring it to boil for 1minute before you drink it.
Bottled carbonated water is safer than uncarbonated water. Ask for drinks without ice unless the ice is made from bottled or boiled water. Avoid icypoles and flavoured ices that may have been made with contaminated water.
Eat foods that have been thoroughly cooked and that are still hot and steaming. Avoid raw vegetables and fruits that cannot be peeled. Vegetables like lettuce are easily contaminated and are very hard to wash well.
When you eat raw fruit or vegetables that can be peeled, peel them yourself. (Wash your hands with soap first.) Do not eat the peelings. Avoid foods and beverages from street vendors. It is difficult for food to be kept clean on the street, and many travellers get sick from food bought from street vendors.
Bread is safest when served fresh from the oven. Avoid moist grain dishes (like rice) that have been allowed to sit at room temperature for long periods of time. Don't swim or fish in polluted waters, and don't eat fish that may have been caught in such waters.
As a last resort, if no source of safe drinking water is available or can be obtained, tap water that is uncomfortably hot to touch may be safer than cold tap water; however, proper disinfection or boiling is still advised.

Emmett Louis Till was 14 year old black boy from Chicago, who had never been to the south and did not know what went down in the south. Emmett’s father Louis Till was killed in WWII. His mother Mamie Till was a single mother that worked long hours. Emmett was going down to Mississippi to visit his uncle and his cousins (Mamie Till). According to his mother he was a nice cocky boy that loved to talk. This gives us a little insight of how lightly Emmett would take his visit to the south. Also according to his family he was childish, playful, and mischievous (Mamie Till). Now knowing how Emmett Till acted it is easier to see who he was and why he did the thing he did.
Emmett Till was born in Chicago on July 25th 1941 (“Emmett Till”, 2014). Emmett Till was the son of Louis and Mamie Till, who divorced a year after Emmett’s birth. Emmett grew to be a strong willed, educated, and comical young man. Emmett’s father died in World War II leaving Emmett’s mother alone to raise him singularly in 1945, when Emmett was only four years old. The only item that was salvaged from Louis Till was a ring with the engraving L.T., which was given to Emmett’s mother and kept as a reminder of her ex-husband. (“Timeline”, n.d.)
Salmonella is one of the most common food-borne diseases that attack an enormous amount of people in poor countries every year. It is shown that “Today, it still attacks some 17 million people in poor countries each year, and kills about 600,000 of them. Back before antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, typhoid was very much feared” (Trek 1). Despite the advance in technology and medicine, Salmonella is

Ever since college students started playing sports, back in 1879 when Harvard played Yale in the first collegiate sports game, the question of whether college athletes should be paid was addressed. From that point on athletes, coaches, and college administrators have brought forward points agreeing or disagreeing with the notion of paying college students. The students argue that they deserve to be paid due to the revenue that they bring for the college and because of the games they play and the championships they win. At first the idea of paying college athletes was out of the question, but now the argument has gone from a simple yes or no to a heated debate. Since college athletes are given a free education, they should not also be paid.
The college athletes of their respective sports today, have the opportunity of showcasing their talents in competition on local and national programming on a regular basis which has lately brought attention this controversy, paying college athletes. The issue was brought on by the athletes over time, then caught onto coaches, sports columnists, and fans. The athletes dedicate themselves to the sport to a caliber comparable to the professional tier. The idea of paying the athletes could be considered as they play major factor in reputation of their schools, as well as funds for their schools. However most colleges do not have profitable sports teams. Thus, paying athletes would prove to be a very difficult endeavor and this could destroy college athletics as we know them today.
This escalated to riots and even the spark of the Civil Rights Movement. Growing up in the working-class of Chicago and murdered in Money, Mississippi for being falsely accused of whistling at Carolyn Bryant. The two men who kidnapped him and beat him to unrecognizability walked away unharmed. Even after the rallying cries and the riots, the government still did nothing. Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. even had a say about the circumstances of this young death. Just as Simeon Wright said, “J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant died with Emmett Till’s young-blood on their
College athletics have become a very popular commodity throughout college scenes across the nation. They, in turn, tend to bring in a lot of money for these universities, especially along the division 1 and division 2 institutions. Many of these athletes can likely play professionally; however turn down the millions of dollars in order to obtain educational values. Rules regulate whether the athletes can be paid for their efforts within their given sport. The debate is ongoing; as some believe that athletes should be paid given how much money they do bring into the university. Others believe that the college game should be kept amatuerized and should be a learning experience for its participants. Regardless of what decision will be made
College athletics has become massively popular among Americans over the past 30 years. This popularity has resulted in increased revenues for the NCAA and the colleges that compete; this increased revenue sparked the debate on whether or not college athletes should be compensated for more than just their athletic scholarships. At this point in time no college athletes are being legally compensated for their participation in their college athletic program. According to NCAA rules it is illegal to get paid for competing in an athletic program through the college. A common thing for these athletes is to be paid under the table or being compensated “illegally.” Many athletes find it difficult to stay in school with tuition prices increasing

Over the past few decades, college athletics have gained supporters all across the United States. Whether it is Football, Basketball, or Baseball, ever since the turn of the century, intercollegiate sports have brought in a surplus of revenue to their respective universities. A recent study found out the University of Texas’ Athletic Program had the highest revenue of any other university at a little over $120 million. Yet with this large sum of money no college athletes are legally paid for their work. The notion of paying college football players has been an ongoing debate since the early 1900’s. With current television revenue resulting from NCAA football bowl games and March Madness in basketball, there is now a clamoring for compensating both football and basketball players beyond that of an athletic scholarship (3). Many people say that athletes do not need to be paid because of many reasons, however college athletes must be paid because they hold down a full time job, college athletes are bringing in huge amounts of revenue for the colleges, and the future of college athletes is very
There are many ways to store food safely. Let’s say you’re going on a backpacking trip and have the options of pre-cooked hamburgers, fresh strawberries, peanut butter, crackers, and raisins. What foods should you leave behind because of bacterial growth and which foods can you take? Foods with higher water activity levels are likely to last shorter because they will have microorganisms living inside. Some microorganisms are microbes and enzymes. To prevent microorganisms from living inside, foods with higher water activity levels than 0.85 aw, potentially hazardous foods, must be kept refrigerated to prevent bacteria growth, like fresh fruit of raw meat. Potentially hazardous foods are foods that can cause illness if their bacterial growth isn’t put to an end.
Diverticulosis is a very common digestive disease. It occurs when pouches or small sacs begin to form in the wall of the colon but without causing any complications or problems. “It is estimated that approximately twenty percent of all patients that develop diverticula, will have either inflammatory or bleeding episodes (Floch, 2004).” Diverticulitis on the other hand is when bacteria start to actually grow in one or a few of those small pouches called “Diverticula”, causing it to get inflammed and infected in the digestive tract. Studies have shown that divirticula can form all througout the colon however; the sigmoid colon which is the curved part of the large intestine closest to the rectum, is known for the most popular site for the diverticula
