Tucket's Gold Character Analysis

The main character in my book “Tucket´s Gold” by Gary Paulsen is about a teenage boy named Francis Tucket who lived in the mid 1900’s This brave character was taken from his parents over a year ago by Pawnee Indians while traveling the Oregon Trail. He held captive for days until he was rescued by a one armed mountain man named Mr. Grimes who trained him and gave him the skills so he could survive out in the wild. Now he is in charge of 2 orphans named Billy and Lottie and is tracking down his parents on the Oregon trail until he stumbles upon an ancient treasure and is being chased by bandits. Now he has use his great character traits such as being caring, protective, and skillful to stay alive. Throughout the story these traits affect Francis because without these exact traits such as being skillful he would have never survived on his own after being separated from his parents in turn, he would have never been caring or protective because he would have never found Lottie and Billy to be caring and protective to, and if he wasn’t protective or caring they all would have all died during the encounter with the bandits because he would not care. After being taken from his parents by the Pawnee Indians and rescued by Mr. Grimes, he was taught by him for a long time about how to survive in the wild at this time period. He taught him things like how to trap,the proper way to shoot, how to make a shelter, find food, and hunt. Throughout this story all of those skills come in hand from caring for Lottie and Billy to finding food, water, and trouble and without them “Mr. Tucket” wouldn´t have made it this far, and that´s why I think Francis Tucket´s skillfulness is important to the movement of this story, not only to him, but to all the people he has saved during his journey such as Billy and
