The main character in my book “Tucket´s Gold” by Gary Paulsen is about a teenage boy named Francis Tucket who lived in the mid 1900’s This brave character was taken from his parents over a year ago by Pawnee Indians while traveling the Oregon Trail. He held captive for days until he was rescued by a one armed mountain man named Mr. Grimes who trained him and gave him the skills so he could survive out in the wild. Now he is in charge of 2 orphans named Billy and Lottie and is tracking down his parents on the Oregon trail until he stumbles upon an ancient treasure and is being chased by bandits. Now he has use his great character traits such as being caring, protective, and skillful to stay alive. Throughout the story these traits affect Francis because without these exact traits such as being skillful he would have never survived on his own after being separated from his parents in turn, he would have never been caring or protective because he would have never found Lottie and Billy to be caring and protective to, and if he wasn’t protective or caring they all would have all died during the encounter with the bandits because he would not care. So as can see these traits change him from a boy “with plenty” and a fairly wealthy family to a caring, protective, and …show more content…
skillful boy who knows what it means to be hungry, poor and scared. Francis is a very caring boy. Francis is so caring, he goes out of his way to make a fire, find food, water and shelter for Billy and Lottie before himself. He even stays out in a severe thunderstorm to find them shelter and risks his own life to care for them amongst all odds or settings without even remotely thinking of himself. I think this makes him a very caring boy almost parent-like. Throughout the story Francis shows how protective he is. Just after leaving the Indian village they are chased by bandits, the same bandits that stole from them last time and he risks his life to save them even after being clubbed in the head and pillaged of gold, he tries to protect Billy and Lottie without a weapon. He shows this character trait many times, especially when they are being chased by the Comancheros and he does his best so he can hide them and keep them away from harm. The way I see it, he is very protective and if he wasn´t they would have all died when he was chased down by the bandits so I think being protective is a pretty important trait for Francis to contribute to the movement of this story. Francis is also a very skillful boy in the story.
After being taken from his parents by the Pawnee Indians and rescued by Mr. Grimes, he was taught by him for a long time about how to survive in the wild at this time period. He taught him things like how to trap, the proper way to shoot, how to make a shelter, find food, and hunt. Throughout this story all of those skills come in hand from caring for Lottie and Billy to finding food, water, and trouble and without them “Mr. Tucket” wouldn´t have made it this far, and that´s why I think Francis Tucket´s skillfulness is important to the movement of this story, not only to him, but to all the people he has saved during his journey such as Billy and
Lottie. So in the end they come out on top, retaining the gold and all their belongings, they are back on their way to finding his parents, and escaped the Comancheros… for now. So if Francis wouldn’t have been taught by Mr. Grimes he wouldn’t have had the skills to survive, and he would have never saved Billy and Lottie, and he would have never found the gold so I think Mr. Grimes deserves a lot of credit because without him there would be no story, there would be no Mr. Tucket but of course you need to give most of the credit to Francis because he is the one who had to endure this whole dangerous year long journey. So the message of this story in my eyes comes from when Francis wished he had the money to use and provide for them and buy them things like clothes and in the end, I think the moral of the story is to “be careful of what you wish for because you never know you might actually get it” because in the end when they find that gold and do get money it draws in a lot of trouble for them and if you ask me, Francis Tucket is good at finding himself into trouble.
In the Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display straightforward, hardworking, and stubborn character traits. Firstly, Homer and Mother Maria both display a straightforward personality by being brutally honest about their opinions. For example, when Mother Maria asks Homer to build a chapel, Homer speaks his mind by telling her he does not want to build it. Mother Maria shows her straightforward behavior during Homer’s stay at the convent. One morning, when Homer sleeps in late, Mother to becomes extremely upset and is not afraid to show how she feels about him. Secondly, both Homer and Mother Maria display a hardworking spirit. Homer is a hardworking man because after finally agreeing to build the chapel,

The production of Honky is a satirical comedy, following the lives of five people and the language of racism. While it focuses on the plot of 5 characters, the storyline was well thought out and intriguing. One actor in specific, Gerard Joseph, who played Thomas, did an exceptionally well job at conveying emotion and projecting to the audience, in my opinion. The overall directing, from the actors to the soundtrack and lightning, seem to be presented with excellent detail. Overall, this production was well done.
In the story, “Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket,” the main character is Tom Benecke. As the story progresses, he is faced with many decisions. He is forced to act quickly and because of this, many things about him change. In the story, Tom is ambitious, self-centered, and impatient. These three traits change significantly throughout the story.
In the book Copper Sun the author introduces you to many different characters. One of the main characters in Amari. Amari isn't just a character to me, she is someone I feel I can connect with. Amari goes on a tough journey with many other slaves, she finds hardships on the journey to Sullivan’s island. I feel like I connected the most with Amari even though she is a girl.
Expectations versus environment has been an ongoing argument on which is more effective on a destiny. However, environment has much more effect in a destiny. It is nearly impossible not to see this play out in today’s society. “The Other Wes Moore” by Wes Moore is a prime example of how environment overrides expectations when it comes to creating a destiny. This book is primarily about two boys with the same names, but incredibly different fates that were predetermined by their uncontrollable environment. Wes Moore(a) grew up to fulfil a role in the U.S. Army and write a book. Wes Moore(p) sealed his fate by committing a felony and earning a life sentence in prison. The environment runs through primary lives, late teens, and early adulthood,
In a person’s life, one must overcome obstacles that have the potential to either negatively or positively impact their future. Whether it is a serious obstacle, such as being involved with drugs, or a minor obstacle, such as procrastinating an important essay for the night before it is due, the choices people make can influence the way they live their lives. In Wes Moore’s inspiring non-fiction book, The Other Wes Moore, two boys with the same name start off living a few blocks away from one another, but turn out to be completely different individuals. At first, they were both troublemakers, getting in trouble with the law. However, as time progressed, the author, Wes Moore, became a Rhodes scholar and quite successful, while the other Wes Moore was sentenced to life in prison. The difference between these two men was the surrounding influences that shaped their growth as people. In a person’s growth, the most important factors are a positive role model in a positive environment because a positive role model will provide the path to success and will aid that person in achieving prosperity.
Encountering struggles in life defines one’s character and speaks volumes about their strength, ambition, and flexibility. Through struggles, sacrifice, and tragedy, Junior in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, adapts to survive difficult situations and faces his problems head-on. As he makes life changing decisions, adapts to an unfamiliar culture, and finds himself amongst misery and heartbreak, Junior demonstrates resilience to overcome adversity and struggles.

True diary of a part time Indian is a very inspiring book. They let you see the good in everyone and they try not to focus on the bad. "Instead, it was Gordy who defended me. He stood with his textbook and dropped it. WHOMP!! Gordy showed a lot of courage standing up to a teacher like that. And his encourage inspired others. Penelope stood and dropped her textbook. And the Roger stood and dropped his textbook. WHOMP!! And then the other basketball players did the same (Sherman 175). Junior was around negative people all throughout his life. Some of these people, like Rowdy, was able to be good but under certain circumstances, become evil. All people start out good. It is on your own to decide if your going to stay good or turn evil. Even if someone is good, but gets pushed beyond their point, they will snap and break out into
The play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry has many interesting characters. In my opinion, the most fascinating character is Ruth because of her many emotions and captivating personality. She goes through extreme emotions in the play such as happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and confusion. Ruth is very independent, firm, kind, witty, and loving.
In “The Red Convertible” by Louise Erdrich the two main characters Lyman and Henry are brothers that have an amazing relationship with one another. In the beginning of the story Erdrich writes about how Lyman and Henry bought a gorgeous red convertible; and together they went on plenty of road trips and bonded over the car. On the other hand, the two siblings in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” don’t have that same sibling bond. The siblings in “Everyday Use”, Maggie and Dee, are complete opposites. Dee is extremely vain, snobbish, and outspoken while Maggie is coy, insecure, and timid. Although Maggie and Dee aren’t as close as Lyman and Henry, they still have a very complex relationship in terms of being “close” to one another even though it seems as if they’re from two different planets. In the stories “Everyday Use” and “The Red Convertible”, the characters share one particular trait which is
What did his adventures on the river teach him about his own personality and character? They taught him what he already knew in the beginning of the book that he is himself. If he tries to hard be somebody else he is never going to achieve that self-fulfillment that he so desires in the beginning of the book. I also believe that his companionship with the black slave Jim helped to shape his character as a human being.
All across the United States, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is known as a great American classic. Although it has been perceived to many controversial, there are many valid arguments as to why it is the quintessential American novel. The themes Huck Finn portrays obvious themes that play a key role in America; especially in the time it was published such as racism, slavery, and a child running away from home to help out someone who was seen as below him. Along with the controversial elements in the paper, the novel’s characters also had individual voices that made them all stand out in a way that made it more interesting to read. The theme of perseverance is apparent as Jim and Huck Finn are separated on multiple occasions.
Thesis: In Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, he portrays Jim as the hero of the novel through Jim’s ability to humanize throughout the novel as portrayed through his friendship with Huck.
