The trucking industry is facing one of it’s hardest stages in the labor industry. The demand for truck drivers is in high demand and yet there are only a few qualified applicants willing to get the job done. This is an important issue for us consumers to be mindful of. As of now, we are aware of the different approach to shopping, it can be done online. Online shopping has become the most popular alternative to going shopping in the store. It offers speed, convenience and more variety of product that may not be in stores. Web sites offer Free Shipping for your purchases to entice the consumer to do their shopping wherever. Companies like Uber have developed a self-driving truck and have put it to test on or about October 17, 2016. This truck transported Budweiser beer from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs in Colorado. It’s trip covered 120 miles of distance and was traveling at a speed of 55 mph. The trucking industry has a workforce that is predominantly men around age 49 and only 5.8% of female. According to the American Trucking Association, there have been evident shortages since the year 2005 with roughly a shortage of 20,000 drivers.In 2016, there is a shortage of 50,000 and it is expected to be 175,000 drivers by 2024. The hiring criteria include the driving history of the applicant, a commercial trucking driver license usually earned after training and even their experience with other carriers such as 2 to 3 years. A CDL program takes about a month to earn and there are schools that are now directly connecting with job afterward. Also, there are programs that pay about $500 a week while you train with them. Furthermore, there are factors causing the driver shortage such as age range. The minimum is 21 up until 52 years
