When it comes to the subject of transgenderism, there are many different thoughts and opinions about this new topic to the public. Transgenderism is a very controversial subject, especially in North Carolina. Whether or not if one agrees or disagrees at the end of the day a transgender is still a human being. The transgender person is capable of still working; they have all the qualities as a straight non-transgender. It is a legal choice that one decides to do; a transgender should still get their Civil Rights Act that was declared in 1964. In North Carolina there are different ways that transgenders are being discriminated in the workforce. It starts off with companies who just do not hire transgender workers because they do not want to deal with all the problems. Some companies are afraid of hiring a transgender because they do not know how to handle situations that would occur. Having a transgender worker should not be a problem though, because they should be treated equality like everyone else. A transgender, 25 year old woman named Avery Edison travelling from London, England was detained at Pearson Airport by Canada Border Service Agency. According to her, the reason for her detention was due to an immigration issue involving her overstaying a previous student visa. Transgender is an umbrella term, meaning an individual’s gender-identity does not align with their assigned sex at birth. Although transgender is a protected class in eighteen states, these individuals still face discrimination within the country and around the world (“Non-Discrimination Laws”). Transgender Today Nowadays, there are lot of unexpected changes coming in our lives every day which are challenging to our society. Gender issues are one of the hot topics among new changes. Transsexuality is a critical part of this gender issue. After reading the article “Night to his day” by Judith Lorber, I found a clarification regarding the social construction of gender. While looking for some facts about transgender, I have also found a lot of articles with different points of views from researchers, scientists and individuals who have transformed from their origin to transgender men/women.
While transgenders should not be able to use gender identified public facilities, they should not be bullied, or harassed in any kind of way because while they are transgender they are people. They breathe, they have feelings. That is why the government needs to put laws in place to help them, and make them part of our regular society, and to make them feel welcome. Looking back false transgender identification and accommodating to the public have been addressed. Those problems should be addressed but that does not mean that transgenders are to be made
Government agencies such as the Affordable Care Act law defines no sexual discrimination including gender identity, transgender status prohibits majority of insurance companies and healthcare providers from refusing to cover transition-related treatments or using incorrect pronouns under the law. However, the greatest effect can only occur when we — as an American society — change our paradigm. What we can do to help to contribute the changes of degrading experience for many LGBT people in healthcare setting are educating ourselves and creating more awareness in general public to ensure that everyone needs to be treated equally whoever they are. We should be more open-minded to create a welcoming and acceptable workplace environment inclusive of all trans people, to prevent transgender from getting reluctance to reveal their sexual orientation or gender identity to their health providers by training on the full scope of this minority group health in medical schools, and to keep fighting for the state-laws to ensure equality in for transgender individuals in the public utilities and services since only almost half of U.S. states discriminating against transgenders is considered
North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community’s most basic rights and protections” (Smith). I completely agree with Jonas, Lovato and Springsteen. This law needs to be abolished very soon. There should be a law implementing gender neutral bathrooms everywhere, so transgender people can feel comfortable and safe, no matter where they are. Transgender people should have the right to go to work, not feel discriminated against, and be able to use the bathroom safely.
No one should be treated differently from anyone else. We are all humans and should be treated equally. Discrimination is a very harsh term to based lively-hood on. A study was found that transgender individuals often experience negative interactions with officers. Florida’s, Texas’s and Kentucky’s new proposed bathroom laws have “caused fear and dismay among transgender people around the country” (Tannehill). Kentucky laws are more focused on the school systems but Florida 's and Texas’s laws treat transgenders as if they were criminals. Both of these states have regulations that will give transgenders civil and or criminal charges for using the bathroom they identify with (Tannehill). A transgender could be charged a fine for using the wrong bathroom and “people who report a transgender people in the bathroom to claim civil damages, for example a bounty” (Tannehill). Florida and Texas are trying to look out for the best interest of the majority population, however, “we all have to use the bathroom, but these laws would seemingly force transgender people to choose between fines and jail, risking horrific violence or leaving the state” (Tannehill). This restricts many trans people from working their way up the corporate ladder because people see their lifestyle as too unprofessional and odd to be in a leadership position. Many of these trans people have reported decreased earnings post-transition. Employers often feel hesitant to promote trans people because they do not always carry the same gender characteristics as the average heterosexual man or women have.
