When faced with the problem of poor dental hygiene, the toothbrush is man’s best friend. After a long day of munching chips, slurping soda, and chomping sweets, teeth become dirty and stained. The only way to solve the problem of filthy teeth is a toothbrush and toothpaste. Contrary to popular belief, tooth brushing is a complex process will many meticulous steps. Although it is a complex process, brushing teeth is needed to achieve dental hygiene. The main steps include entering the bathroom, preparing the toothbrush, brushing the teeth, and cleaning the sink. The dental hygiene process begins by entering the bathroom. The bathroom itself is an essential piece to the toothbrushing process. For example, without a bathroom, people would …show more content…
Concentrate on the inspirational music to get through this challenging process. Hold the toothbrush in the dominant hand and bring it toward the mouth. Place the nondominant hand on the edge of the sink for stability. Without the additional stability, becoming off-balanced from the circling action of brushing is inevitable. Make sure to keep the the bristles of the toothbrush facing towards the teeth; failure to follow this step will result in painful scraping on the teeth. While keeping the teeth clenched together, spread the lips as far apart as possible. Looking like a dog who stuck his head out of the window is unavoidable. Next, place the toothbrush on the teeth. In order to activate the toothpaste, move the brush in tiny circles across every tooth. This will cause the toothpaste to have little bubbles that, mixed with saliva, make a frothy foam. Once every tooth has been properly scrubbed, remove the toothbrush. At this point, the mouth will feel like a chipmunk with it’s mouth full of acorns. To avoid swallowing the toothpaste, forcefully blow the mouth full of foam into the sink. Now the teeth are as clean and shiny as a freshly waxed car. Since the toothpaste is unlikely to follow the rules and stay contained in the mouth, look into the mirror and laugh at the mess of toothpaste dripping from the mouth. All laughs aside, rinse the toothpaste off with warm water. The teeth may be cleaned, but …show more content…
Turn on the water and rinse the globs of toothpaste and foam down the drain. With the water still running, rinse all the grime from the toothbrush, and shake out the excess water. To shake out the water, bang the toothbrush on the side of the sink so that the water will fall into the sink. Do not shake the toothbrush in the air like a dog after a bath. Then, gather up the supplies and put them where they were found. Now the inspirational music may be turned off, unless otherwise prefered. Since that each tooth is perfectly polished, continue this process every morning and night in hope of achieving blindingly white teeth. Be careful not to blind anyone with the glare from the teeth in direct sunlight. Now that the bathroom is clean, it is ready for whoever is next to clean their
A dental hygienist is a very important role in any dental office. As stated by a dental assistant, “Dental hygienists work closely with the dentist as well as hands on with the patients. They assist dentists with operative procedures such as fillings and extractions, and making molds of patients teeth” (Wilson, Jennifer). A large part of their job is teaching patients proper dental care to ensure a lifetime of healthy teeth. This includes proper brushing and flossing techniques. According to the job out look, a day as a dental hygienist can include taking x-rays, cleaning and scaling teeth, charting treatment plans, putting sealants on teeth, taking impressions of teeth and completing information about the patient’s oral and medical history (Summary). In some states dental hygienist are allowed to give local anesthetic and place and remove sutures (Delivering Local Anesthetic). According to advantages of becoming a dental hygienist, hygienists spend more hands on time with the patients than the dentist does. These are some of the instruments that dental hygienists use on a daily basis: toothbrush, scaler, mirror, ultrasonic scaler, explorer, suction, computer, salvia ejector, rubber cap polisher, dental models, x-ray machine and probe. The dental hygienist uses a toothbrush to remove soft plaque from the teeth. Plaque is a soft coating on the teeth that contain bacteria. The bacteria can cause tooth decay and gum disease. The amount of plaque on the teeth gives the hygienist an idea of how well the daily brushing and flossing of the patient’s teeth are completed on a regular basis. The scaler is used to remove hardened plaque or calculus from the teeth. The mirror is used to look closely at the surfaces of the teeth a...
A hygienist then asks what polisher flavor the patient would like. What the polisher does is remove any fragments of plaque remaining and surface stains on the teeth. A hygienist will then go over how to properly floss teeth for future references. Flossing is the only way to remove plaque in between the teeth. The hand scalers and polishing can only do so much. Most patients believe that flossing isn’t a big deal and make excuses such as “I forget to do it” or “I don’t know how.” This is what a hygienist is for; to properly educate the patient how to take care of the mouth by teaching them how to floss if necessary and prevent serious
They then should look over the charts at the patient’s situation with their teeth and see what medical treatment they need. They then bring the patient in and perform the treatment. Lastly, they charge the patient for the certain treatments, like the cleaning, and then for say a filling, they will charge them separately, and then the patient will leave. Soon after, they will start all over again. Furthermore, there are a lot of skills required to be a Dental Hygienist, but yet simple ones.
When I read the prompt for this reflection essay about learning experience, a lot of topics came up to my mind. I can recall many experiences, but only one experience stands out more than the others. In 2015, I was very fortunate to be accepted in one of the school programs that I consider that it is hard to get into, Dental Hygiene Program. I thought I passed through the greatest challenge of my life by being accepted to the program, but I was wrong. My journey getting into dental hygiene school was rough, but my journey getting out of school was even tougher.
Since I was a child my mom used to tell me “you needed to brush your teeth at least twice a day because if you don’t do so, you are going loose them forever, and guess what, once you lose them they won’t grow back again”. I am pretty sure that for some of you this words sound very familiar, right? As I grew up I started to wonder why my mom always tell me brushing and flossing is so important? And that is the main reason why I decided to become a dental hygienist, in order to be able to teach my patients its importance.
As we grow up, we are often asked what we want to be. Many people say careers such as a doctor or an actor. When I grow up, I want to be a dental hygienist. When I tell people this they often think i’m crazy for wanting to “work in someone’s mouth”. Dental hygiene is appealing to me. It is a big part of personal hygiene and keeping yourself healthy. One of the first things a person notices about you is your smile and I want to help people perfect theirs. I know that being a dental hygienist will not be the easiest thing in the world but there are some benefits. You don’t have to work full time if you don’t want to. Also as stated by Jenny Lewellen, “Overtime is not expected” (Lewellen). Hygienists also get a good salary. “The median annual wage for
Hygienist are the dentists who educate their patients on the importance of oral health care. Hygienist examine any chipped tooth, damage filling, discolored or swollen gums, and also take x-rays, and help prevent tooth decay. Today, dental care focuses on prevention. Preventing tooth decay and related problems is the main job of a dental hygienist. As generations pass, not many people are fully aware of the downside of not properly taking care of their pearly whites. This topic was brought to my attention by noticing the lack of dental hygiene among my peers. This doesn’t necessarily just mean having only cavities, sore gums, but also bad breath.
Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine gums and teeth for signs of oral disease, educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health, and provide other necessary dental care. Specific duties of a dental hygienist include the application of sealants and fluoride to help protect teeth, removal of tartar stains and plaque

Dental hygienists are required to complete various tasks on their job. They have to use a variety of tools that can be anything from hand powered to ultrasonic. Introduction: In Canada, general dental health is not part Canada’s national system of health insurance (Medicare) (1) except for some dental surgical procedures that are performed at hospitals. Since Oral health does not come under the Health Act about ninety-five percent of the oral health care services are offered on a fee-for-service basis. Oral health care is under provincial or territorial jurisdiction like other health care services and publically financed dental care programs provide the remaining five percent of oral health care services (2). Thus, majority of Canadians receive oral health via privately owned dental clinics. Privately owned dental care gives these services providers control over dental service charges, types of available treatment for the patients and number of follow-up appointment for treatments or routine care. Service users pay for the dental expenses from their own pockets or utilize insurance coverage (1).

This task takes a great deal of endurance to assure that you are brushing long enough and hard enough to actually get my teeth clean. To begin this task, I need to bring my hands to my face and then decide which side of the midline I will begin with. Usually starting with the left side, I need to do a great deal of supination and pronation to be sure that I am getting all sides of the teeth. These motions will also be accompanied by elbow flexion at various degrees. This task also takes a great deal of sensation to know how hard I am brushing, that I should not swallow the toothpaste in my mouth, and that I should spit when My mouth gets full. I think the most significant sensation that is necessary for me when I brush my teeth is to know not to stick the toothbrush too far down my throat when I brush my tongue off. This is an aspect of this task that I struggled to do for many years, but when I came to college and Danielle did it too I managed to work on
Dental plaque is a bacterial collection with their products on the teeth or other solid oral structures, covered by a jelly-like tenacious material and it is responsible for two major dental diseases; caries and periodontal disease (Chandra, 2000). Good oral hygiene is a foundation step in the development of disease-free oral cavity of infants through adolescents (Srivastava, 2011). Plaque control is of prime importance for the prevention of these diseases and for good dental health as it helps to reduce the number of microorganisms present in the oral cavity, hence, reducing the dental plaque (Muthu and Sivakumar, 2009; Tare, 2007).
As the consumers are becoming more concerned about the health of their teeth, the toothbrush companies are focusing on helping them have an optimal dental health, and offering various types of toothbrush; to do this they must be all the time focused on what the customer's needs are.
