Everyday younger kids are making social networks pages this introduces them into a new world that hardly knew anything about. There are so many reason why younger girls and boys shouldn't be on social sites at certain age. Sexual predators aren't the only dangerous thing about the internet, their peers could also assualt. In very few cases younger kids can be misleading and get someone older into some legal trouble.
The internet is a public place that people of all ages and race can access all of your information. Even though sites such as Facebook and Twitter have privacy settings, young users do not know how to enable these settings. Sexual predators can then access the young kids profile. They could access photos, wall posts and also contact them through personal message. Often these people lie about their ages, tell the kids what they want to hear then later asks to meet in person. This dangerous act can lead to rape, kidnapping and even murder. Most young girls look for people to love them and show them affection that they want. Older men know that girls are very vulnerable at ...
We have all watched television shows, we have heard the warnings, and have read numerous articles that expose internet predators and pedophiles. Most of us are aware of the dangers surrounding children and teenagers as they navigate the internet’s virtual world. There is no shortage of predators online. Chris Hanson has a very popular show called To Catch a Predator that has helped bring awareness to the public of this heinous crime against children, and while this is extremely important to know and prevent, there is another large segment of society that is at risk too. This paper will focus on this “other” population.
Social networking sites leave opportunities for vulnerability, however, I don’t believe many youths are an easy target. Using ethos, pathos and logos individuals can create their own reality to relate to the internet world who they think are and how they wish to be seen. In mediated publics such as Facebook and Instagram, the user has complete control of his or her profile and is the only one who can allow content about his/herself to be shared. It is my personal belief that as technology has evolved many people have taken to fabricating some truths here and there and omitting details to give an ideal representation of who they are without incriminating themselves or leaving themselves vulnerable for mistreatment. The fantasy of what is or could be is more desirable than reality. In the past few years, privacy settings have been adapted to cover the growing technological advances to keep users safe from online predators.
We all know that internet is the future of education and therefore the future for our younger generations. The whole point of the internet is to expand the reach for kids and adults of knowledge at interactions. This cannot be done if sexual predators stalk the chatrooms of myspace. This cannot be done if insecure teens are being bashed by the bullies of cyber world. It is impossible if the companies that create these websites do not prioritize the safety of its users. This is why there must be an age restrictions in order to minimize the risks.
Williams, R. (2014). Children using social networks underage 'exposes them to danger'. [online] Available at: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10619007/Children-using-social-networks-underage-exposes-them-to-danger.html [Accessed 24 Apr. 2014].
Parents should be more aware of what their kids are doing online. They are still underage and they should be more taken care off. People online aren’t always who you think they are that is
As a result of all of this information I have provided to you, there are more cons then there are pros when it comes to social media for kids under the age of 13. It is safe to wait until the child is the appropriate age to allow them on social media. Children under the age 13 should be more into school or natural play than social media. This can affect them a lot so please take my advice and wait until they are older so all of the cons can be avoided. When they are older they will be smarter, and able to understand what and what not to do.
Recently, there has been much controversy around Social Networking and age limits. The first web-based social network site SixDegrees.com was launched in 1997 (Stroud, 2007). The UK’s first major experience of social networking came in July 2000 when Friends Reunited was launched. At the end of the first year it had 3000 members. As a result of press and the advertising by people lead the membership increased to 4 million members in 2001 and 8 million by the end of 2002 (Stroud, 2007). In 2005, Friends Reunited had over 15 million members and was sold to ITV, a British TV company for $120 million. MySpace was launched in 2003 and it was used by people who love music. However, teenagers started joining in 2004. Today the most popular site
Some of children they do not know what is right what is wrong because they all too young and it is hard to understand. Parent must teach them and explain to them about the simple safety rules. According to the guardian Lucy said, the world now is crunch generation. It is important time that the children and parent should learn about internet safety. Everywhere the internet reach to the children, parent must understand their child and always talk to them. Furthermore, according to Dredge article say “parent should teach their children never to give out personal information online.” This is a big part of responsibility that parent should explain to their child why they need to keep their information secret. Explain the different between being cool and not inviting danger. When their information is not private anymore that means anyone can access your information no matter you want to share or not. Some of the children are lucky but some of the child are not so lucky. For example, two boy not keep their information in secret, both desire to share their online information. One of the boy is lucky no one’s steal his information. On the other hand, the other boy is not lucky his information spread immediately. Online predator who are waiting to steal other people information, steal his information and access to his personal information. Online predator try to hack his bank account and unfortunately they can do that. Online predator transfer all of the boy money to their account. The boy lose money and his information is not private anymore. The best way if the child know their information are public, child should tell his or her parent to help, find the solution, and solve this
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Not everything is negative towards social media, but there are precautions that need to be taken when there is the youth involved.
Child Predators on the Internet Children in today’s society remain constant victims of exploitation due to the available anonymity the superhighway (Internet), provides to child predators. The vast majority of children cannot withstand the probability that they may eventually become the victims of mental, emotional, and physical sexual extortion or cyberspace bullying. The massive use of chatrooms, pornographic, and different internet sites companies design to originally connect people are outrageously used to abuse, exploit, and commit heinous crimes against children. The laws introduced to prevent these crimes frequently miss their mark because of the inability to keep up with cyberspace’s ever changing model. Law enforcement plays a huge role during the fight to protect children from predators on the internet.
Nowadays, children and adolescents spent a considerable part of their time on the internet. Media has turned out to be a very useful tool in many fields such as education, arts, science, sports, and culture. Over the recent decades, there has been a surge in the use of media by the younger generations and concern has been raised about the effect of media on children because of research reports of long term negative effects. Media use is a double edged weapon with both advantages and disadvantages. Since Internet is the easiest way now for children to use so as to watch and observe anything they want such as movies, games, news and pictures, also this useful tool is used by children for harming themselves
Social media is described as content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create and post their own images, video and text information and then share that with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends (Affilorama, 2012). They are more like a website allowing you to express your daily activities, beliefs, locations, likes, dislikes, photos, music, etc. They are used by creating a profile, and logging in through either the website, or apps now used on smartphones, or any portable device with Wi-Fi connection. Although most social media networks are directed towards adults and young adults, young children are getting into these websites as well. There are usually age limits but there isn’t a certainty that all the users provided their actual age, allowing whoever wants to be a member of these sites to bypass an age limit “security” procedure. Facebook and MySpace require users to be at least 13, but they have no practical way to verify ages, and many young users prete...
When it comes to having an account online it can get quite dangerous. Not only is it dangerous but having the gadget lying around the house or even having their own at a young age can make it easier for them to have easy access to those social media accounts. Parents need to take precaution with their children and the internet. Meeting someone online is so much more different from meeting them in person. It is hard to tell if people and kids are their real age that they put on their information because you can actually lie about how old you really are. There has been many cases where involving younger girls talking to older men, a 15-year-old can be talking to a
Internet chat rooms are enticing children to go out and meet much older people that they should not be associating with and no one is stopping them. Parents and Internet companies both need to make drastic changes for the benefit of the world’s youth.
Teenagers are most at risk when surfing on the internet because they use it more than anybody else on average; social websites are where you are most at danger for example my space, Twitter, Bebo and Facebook. People who are out to harm you in whatever way use these websites and pretend to be somebody they’re not, and by pretending to be your friend they may try and persuade you to give them your personal information. It is very important that you do not fall for this because they could be doing the same thing with up to 50 people at a time. You need to keep in mind that whatever you post on the internet stays on the internet, because virtual copies are made by various people and websites when you do. One thing you need to be careful with is posting images of yourself on the internet enables anyone to know what you look like also you must be careful of what’s in the background, for example, if you took a picture in front of your house you might be able to see the house number and street name. When joining a social website you should always look at what privacy settings there are, so you can block off any information that you don’t want people to see.
