Compare and contrast Tom Sawyer and Jose
Tom Sawyer and Jose are different in a few ways. One being that Jose is more mature than Tom Sawyer. Jose, boring and hardworking, is always thinking about how his life will be when he gets older, and never does any childish activities like chewing on grass. Jose’s cousin was seen chewing on grass, being childish, and being very energetic throughout the story while Jose was thinking about his work. Tom Sawyer, less mature and more childish, tricks people to get what he wants. Another reason why the two are different is that Jose is more serious than Tom Sawyer, and Tom Sawyer is not serious. Jose can seem serious from the beginning to the end of “Born Worker”. This can be seen by how Jose dresses when he wears jeans and a shirt that kids his age would not wear.

Jose is also thinking about how he is drawn to hard labor and is going to do hard labor when he gets older, and explains how his parents have to work hard to keep a roof over their family’s heads. On the other hand, Tom Sawyer acts like he is laid back and doesn’t take things very seriously. These are some reasons why Tom Sawyer and Jose are different. Although Tom Sawyer and Jose are different in some ways, they are also similar as well.
Minds thinking, plans arising, the two people come up with plans to get what they want. One similarity between the two people is that the two are crafty because they come up with “get rich schemes”. Although Jose has help to find jobs, he gets most of the money and does the work by himself most of the time. Tom Sawyer found a way to make whitewashing a fence look fun, so others would be jealous and give him possessions to be able to do Tom’s afternoon chore. Another way Tom and Jose are similar is that they both are mean. This can be seen more in Jose but it can also be seen in Tom Sawyer as well. Jose always is thinking mean thoughts about his cousin. He mainly wants his cousin, loud and talkative, to stop talking so he can work. Tom is mean because when he sees Ben, energetic and friendly, walk by he tries to avoid conversation until he comes up with his scheme. Tom also doesn’t want to talk to the boys who are having fun outside around him because he doesn’t want to be made jealous of their freedom to do what they want. This is why I say that Tom Sawyer and Jose are
similar.
Both men seem to be lazy. We know Tom was lazy because he did not take care of his “ miserable horse with ribs that stuck out like a gridiron.” We also know that Rip is lazy because his “estate dwindled away under his management.” To me the men just sit around and assume that their wives will do all the work. They do not really feel as if they have to help. The second stereotype that these men share is that they are both submissive. Both men allow their wives to make their lives constantly miserable. When Tom would argue with his wife you knew she won because “his face sometimes showed the conflicts.” We also know when Rip and his wife fought, he would relent and say whatever made her happy because we see that Rip was “apt to be obsequious and conciliating under discipline of shrews at home.” To me Tom and Rip are submissive to their wives when they just sit at home and the wives are tired of it. Their wives scream at them to help and they usually give in because of the constant nagging. Washington Irving used these male stereotypes because to him they were good examples of the way American men acted under British
At the beginning of each of the tales both Odysseus and Huck are being held against their will, they manage to escape their initial surroundings but end up getting trapped again later on. As previously mentioned, at the beginning of Odysseus’s tale he is being held captive by Calypso on her Isle because she wants to make him her husband, and although this scene is highly comparable to Pap holding Huck captive on an island for money, it can also be compared to the beginning of Huck’s tale when he is living with Widow Douglas. 2She took me in for a son, and allowed she would civilize me.” (Twain, Page 1.) The two women that are holding the heroes hostage have similar reasoning’s behind them and both would be huge lifestyle changes for the characters, Calypso wants to marry Odysseus and in a similar way Widow Douglas wants to tie Huck down and civilize him. Just as Odysseus shows his yearning for freedom to Hermes, Huck shows his wish to escape and his longing for freedom when he says “when I couldn’t stand it no longer I lit out. I got into my old rags and my sugar hogshead again, and was free and satisfied.” (Twain, page 1.)
Tom Sawyer, a mischievous, brave, and daring boy that goes through adventures in love, murder, and treasure. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is about a boy maturing from a whimsical troublemaker into a caring young man. In the "conclusion" Mark Twain writes, "It being strictly a history of a boy, it must stop here; the story could not go much farther without becoming a history of a man" Tom is now maturing throughout a span of adventures in love, treasure, and everyday life that make him more of an adult, then a boy.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain, is a captivating novel chronicling the adventures of a young boy, Tom Sawyer, along the Mississippi River. Since its publication in 1816, it has become a literary classic that has captured America's imagination. Because of the novel’s catholic appeal, dynamic yet realistic plot, and unorthodox use of language, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer has made its way onto the bookshelves of millions of Americans.

Mark Twain the author of "Adventure of Tom sawyer" was born in Missouri in 1835. He wrote about Tom Sawyer originally back in 1876, with the setting for the story, his home town of Hannibal Missouri, by the Mississippi River. Mark Twain reflection of women in society during his era can be conflicting at times. On thee one hand, He pictures some woman to be an "object" and also extremely dependent on men. Shown as weak, naïve, jealous, damsel in distress and can be seen as second class citizens at times. On the other hand, Mark Twain shows some women as 1st class citizens, an example of a model to society in manners, kindness, generosity and strong will.
In Mark Twain?s novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, the main character, Tom, is best friends with Huck. Tom and Huck seem very similar. But of course, everyone has their differences. They both have many freedoms and experiences, which differ. Their friendship means different things to each kid. There is also the factor of experience and intelligence. The boys are similar and different in many ways, but I think that it does not effect their friendship.
"It's the devils sure enough. Three of 'em! Lordy, Tom, we're goners! Can you pray?" Tom Sawyer loves to adventure. In the Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Tom the main character witnesses a murder with his best friend Huck. That changes the whole story and in the end the two boys find the murderer dead, his hidden treasure and become rich. Tom’s characterization traits prove that he has a true boyhood that others would admire.
In the famous novel and movie series, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, an average teenage girl, Bella Swan, is forced to move from Arizona (where she lived with her mother) to Washington to start an almost new life with her father. She attends a small-town high school with mostly average people, besides one family, the Cullens. As Bella and Edward Cullen get closer, she uncovers a deep secret about him and his family. Their relationship faces many hard challenges and conflicts as the story develops. Both the novel and movie share very similar storylines, however, differ in many ways. From themes to author’s craft, or to relationships, these important parts of the story highlight the significant differences and similarities of Twilight.
I can compare this book to The Treasure Island. Although Tom is clearly not a pirate but I can compare him to Jim Hawkins. Jim is also outgoing and adventurous, all he wanted to feel was to be considered as a man, and Tom too feels that way. When Jim went into a voyage full of action and sword fighting, he discovered treasure that was to be called a legend. They are similar in a way that both boys wanted to be considered responsible and in both ways they have courage.
...nbsp; While Huck represents the ‘American bad boy’, Tom Sawyer is presented as a FOIL of Huck. Huck does the things he needs to do in order to survive, while Tom Sawyer is living in his own fantasy world. Everything in Tom’s life revolves around these fairytale adventures he reads about in books. Tom conforms to society, while Huck clearly does not. Tom has no worries though, as far as survival and having a place to go. He loves to make everything difficult, in order to do it ‘the way they do it in adventure books.’ The two boys are total opposites, in the form of character, goals and actions.
...and bad, right and wrong, danger and friend. His moral growth is contrasted to the character of Tom Sawyer, who justifies his disgraceful and possible destructive concern on the prejudice of slavery or the brutality of separating that weaken the American dream.

One element that is in The Adventure of Tom Sawyer and Robin Hood is characterization. Tom Sawyer always broke rules and went out whenever he felt like he wanted to no matter what the risk was. In fact, Tom Sawyer even played a game and played as Robin Hood. “Huckleberry Finn was
