“Into the Great Wide Open”
How many people try to make it big but don’t succeed? A character named Eddie, had just moved to Hollywood, got a job as a Bouncer then made it to the music industry, he was famous. Then something went wrong and he hit rock bottom. Tom Petty’s narrative poem, “Into the Great WIde Open,” tells a story of Eddie and his short time of fame, using changing tones, and realistic events.
Tom Petty’s song tells a story about a rockstar named Eddie, rise and demise from fame. When Eddie, an eighteen years old man, just graduated high school, he moved to Hollywood. He gotten a tattoo when he got there. Then he meet a girl who also had a tattoo. Eventually they moved into an apartment together. Eddie got a job as a bouncer
at a nightclub, his girlfriend taught him a bit of guitar. When the papers said Eddie played from his heart, he got himself a agent and a roadie. He eventually makes a record, which makes the charts. When Eddie gotten a lot of money from the record he bought himself a leather jacket with chains, started partying a lot and getting to cocky with himself. Eventually the A and R man fired him and Eddie’s future is bleak. Not only Tom Petty’s song tells a story he includes changing tones. When Eddie moved into a apartment with his girlfriend. Gotten a job as a bouncer at a nightclub. Made a record and got himself a agent. Eddie had a joyful life and his future was bright and the tone was happy. However the tone then changes to grim and bleak. When Eddies started to get arrogant and cocky. He started partying a lot. Eventually the A and R man fires him and Eddie’s future is bleak and uncertain. Tom Petty’s song doesn’t have just changing tone, it also has realistic events. When Eddie moved to Hollywood, he got a tattoo and moved into a apartment with his girlfriend, both of which are very realistic, Then when his girlfriend taught him how to play some guitar the papers said he played from his heart. Next he gotten himself an agent and a roadie who helped him with traveling, both are realistic and it happens to musicians. Finally he hit the charts of the top music listened to in America, he got a lot of money from the record, with the money he made he bought himself a leather jacket with it. Eventually he starts partying along with getting cocky and arrogant which eventually gets him fired by the A and R man. All these events in the story are realistic and happen all the time in today's world. Realistic events, the use of changing tones, and the story that tells of Eddie’s short time of fame, all factor into Tom Petty’s narrative poem, “Into the Great Wide Open.” The story of Eddie can be very closely related to Justin Bieber, who started out on top of the world. Then he started to become arrogant and cocky. Slowly people started to dislike him and eventually he hit rock bottom.
Rosen explains how this song can be noted as turning point between the older generation of country music to bro country. I could not agree more. In the older generation, country had a much more southern feel, usually slower in speed as well. Songs like “Cruise” are prime examples of how the music industry, country music specifically, has had to make changes to entertain newer generations. I believe this is an important piece in history, and should definitely be discussed in
Terrance Hayes’ poem, Mr. T is about a 1980’s pop icon and it describes his place in African American history. The poem starts out describing Mr. T but it soon becomes stern when it asks serious questions and then answers mockingly about this pop icons absurdity.
The first stanza describes the depth of despair that the speaker is feeling, without further explanation on its causes. The short length of the lines add a sense of incompleteness and hesitance the speaker feels towards his/ her emotions. This is successful in sparking the interest of the readers, as it makes the readers wonder about the events that lead to these emotions. The second and third stanza describe the agony the speaker is in, and the long lines work to add a sense of longing and the outpouring emotion the speaker is struggling with. The last stanza, again structured with short lines, finally reveals the speaker 's innermost desire to "make love" to the person the speaker is in love

What is the relationship between the self, death, and nature? In his poem, “Hymn,” A.R. Ammons explores the speaker’s position in the world in relation to the other forces that surround him/her daily. S/he seems to be in search of the larger force that controls the smaller natural operations around him. It is unclear as to whether or not the speaker believes that this larger force is a traditional “God” figure, but the title of the poem connotes a praise for a larger being. In addition, Ammons takes on a transcendentalist style in this poem—the belief that a divine spirit composes everything around the speaker. This spirit is “partial and entire” (Ammons 19), “inside of everything and on the outside” (20). There is a significant tension
In the same scheme, both in the movie and the book, the father is presented as abusive and alcoholic on many occasions. In words, the book gives a detailed account of the damages inflicted on Eddie by his father’s violence: “he went through his younger years whacked, lashed, and beaten.” (Albom 105) In the film, t...
Everyone Eddie met in heaven taught him something about his life. They were all connected to him in different ways, whether it was someone close to him once, or a complete stranger. Somehow, all of their lives had crossed Eddie’s and helped make him the person that he had become. When you think about this lesson, you truly understand. One decision causes an effect, maybe on your life or maybe on someone else’s life. That effect will cause something else. It’s what I think of as a ripple effect. Everything happens for a reason, and all of the events that lead up to our “now” makes us who we are.
Firstly, Ed in seen as a kid that is not the smartest , cutest boy in town. On the other hand Ed is a taxi driver, and this would lead Ed to doing the most courageous think Ed has ever done in his life. Stopping a bank robbery which also leads to the person that mails him the playing
The ship would take him and his crew to many places, mainly in Western Africa. Hughes was so excited to finally see Africa and to be apart of the culture there. When the ship finally reached shore, Hughes was disappointed. Thinking that Africa was actually pretty ridiculous with men walking around in white gowns, women showing their breast and little children running around naked. There were also many brothels there that Hughes described the setting as little African boys bringing the crew members to see ‘my sister, two shillings’. These brothels not only disgusted Hughes, but also disappointed him on how the Africans praised them. Hughes wrote in his journal, which is now protected at Yale University, calling them “vile houses of rotting
Walt Whitman’s poem Time to Come explores Whitman’s curiosity of what happens when people die. Rather than taking a pessimistic approach, his writing is more insightful about the experience. The title alone introduces an aspect of his purpose; to point out that dying is inevitable. With Whitman captures the reader’s attention and shares his curiosity with vivid images, sophisticated diction, and his use of metaphor and personification in Time to Come.
“ A rebel without a clue.” Eddie was famous at one point then dropped to a nothing, because he was partying and drinking and hanging out with stars ,and he started to get very cocky and very full of himself.

The lyrics of the song paint an image of someone going through an internal struggle. The very first two lines of the song, “Gonna take you down/Deep
originally composed by Bob Dylan in 1968, "All Along The Watchtower" is one of those songs that have already passed into history, both the music and lyrics and, of course, that this woman was trying to express. It is well known that Dylan always hide "hidden" in his lyrics ... well, rather than hidden messages, songs were a critique of American society at the time, although in appearance his lyrics speak of something else. Another example is the "All Along The Watchtower" (Along the Watchtower / Watchtower) that constituted a critique of American capitalism, a call to transgression, to break the rules, and that became a myth Hippy movement. It has been covered several times by the best musicians. Many will remember the most famous of these,
