12 December 2016 Tom Clancy Tom Clancy was a famous author who impacted the book and video game industry. Tom Clancy wrote many books that were about military operations all across the world. He is a well known author in the gaming industry, inspiring game creators to create new games. He has written many books in his lifetime and when his death came in October of 2013, many authors continued his series in their own way. Tom Clancy was a great author because he inspired many authors to write about the military thriller; he also inspired video game makers to make games about his books, and made books that were top sellers in the book industry.

There was a lot happening in the world at the time that had a profound effect on his life. As the U.S involvement in the Middle East increased so did Clancy’s eagerness to research more and more on military operations. As his knowledge expanded on his passion and interest he started to write it when he was an insurance broker at his family’s own company. Before his death he still worked there one day a week to help his family out. His biggest genre he ever made and or created was the military thriller which was a major book genre after his first book was published. He dominated that genre for a long time and a lot more authors have joined the genre and started making a lot of books. One thing that is for sure is that he made a very popular genre just with his first book he didn’t have any book reputation before that but now he’s one of the biggest names in the book and gaming industry. Nothing in particular influenced his writing other than his eagerness to make a book have his name as the author. That’s what really drove him to making his first book which was a best seller. Most of those books were translated in to many different languages and the cat in the hat was translated in to over 15 different languages most of his books that he wrote got rejected many times by many publishers and that is why he started his own publishing company to publish his own books and to publish other childrens v books to help people publish their books.

Historical fiction typically require a lot of research and having written several historicals, it was a refreshing change to write mystery crime fiction which do not require as much detail or research. Needing to increase his income, he pitched the idea of a second series of historical novels to the editor. Even as the editor absolutely loved the idea he presented, another writer had come up with a very similar idea set in in the period he wanted to set his series in. Instead, the publisher asked him if he would fancy writing a thriller in the mold of a Dan Brown book.
