Tolkien was born in South Africa and after both his parents died when Tolkien was at a young age he moved in with relatives to England. This is where all his writing started. He went to college and studied Anglo Saxon and classic literature. He even enlisted in the army, which was very common for this time, and all this time at war he never stopped writing. He finally got released from the army because of an illness. All these events in his life have majorly influenced his writing style.
Ever since Tolkien was a little kid he always had a passion for language. He incorporated these languages in all his books and even made an alphabet with these languages. This was possible because these are the types of languages he studied in college. He took Anglo Saxon language and then added a little flair of his own and that’s how he created his own language are incorporated in “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”. This later gave him the thought of creating his own imagined world known as Middle-Earth. He then later married Edith Bratt, had four children, and became a professor at Oxford. Therefore with diversity comes different beliefs, norms, and values. Eurocentric values dominate sciences and began cultural universals which puts the clash of dominate and non-dominate cultural behaviors in motion. In 1996 the NASW Code of Ethics increased the recognition of cultural competence. It is important to know diversity exist within ethnic and cultural groups because social workers need to know that relationships between helping professionals and clients may be strained. This happens because of the distrust between groups. Another important aspect is that the professional realizes their own values, biases, and beliefs. The reason for this is because they must value diversity to start with and understand the dynamics of difference. Culturally competent practitioners have to go through developmental process of using their own culture as a starting point to meet all behaviors.
