PERSUASIVE ESSAY
Every day the human species is developing and progressing. With human species, the technology and ways of thinking are progressing as well. One day everything will be different. It is always enjoyable to take a visual journey back in time, to see how the world is different than before, to see what has changed. The time capsule is one of the ways in which we can leave the mark of our time and our history to some future generations. It can serve as a visual and material presentation of how the past looked like. What would be the best illustration of the twenty-first century for future generations, those of five thousand years distant future? If it were up to me to choose three items from the twenty-first century to place in a time capsule for future

During our lives, we collect various objects that are as a memorial to some moments in our lives. These items are usually photos. Image change the usual understanding of time, it is a collection of impressions localized in space. These impressions are unique and will never be able to form the same image of the world from a certain period. Every moment that passes is a unique picture of the state of reality. If the moment is not recorded, the picture will disappear, and will be forever forgotten. The picture says more than a thousand words. If there was a possibility that the entire world fits in a single image, all people, their places of origin, culture, behavior, feelings and everything can describe a nation or an individual, I would choose that picture to put in a time capsule. One such picture is on my instagram,

which describes almost all of these things. It is a picture of my class at the prom. In that picture you can see how my friends and I are celebrating the end of primary school. I think that picture shows how young people knew how to have fun, which is one of the most important things in life. It can serve future generations to see how you do not need much
A picture is more than just a piece of time captured within a light-sensitive emulsion, it is an experience one has whose story is told through an enchanting image. I photograph the world in the ways I see it. Every curious angle, vibrant color, and abnormal subject makes me think, and want to spark someone else’s thought process. The photographs in this work were not chosen by me, but by the reactions each image received when looked at. If a photo was merely glanced at or given a casual compliment, then I didn’t feel it was strong enough a work, but if one was to stop somebody, and be studied in curiosity, or question, then the picture was right to be chosen.
What is a photograph? Now, one might say a photograph is an image taken of oneself, another person(s), and/or a place using a camera. Others might say that a photograph is an image of a moment or memory captured in time that will be forever remembered. Both are correct of course, but I believe a photograph has the potential of meeting both of those ideas. In addition, pictures exist to portray any image of ourselves that we want noticed by the world.
Photos documenting pivotal scenes throughout history can influence people years after. For example the image of the Vietnamese monk setting himself on fire was later used as the album cover for the band Rage Against The Machine’s self titled debut album (Image D). This photo was perfect for the overall sound of the album as the image of the monk showed defiance, which was a strong theme throughout the album.
Fishing is an exciting sport that is highly involving and relaxes at the same time. Sadly, many people tend to overlook the activity as a way to burn calories. Fishing doesn’t necessarily mean sitting on your boat waiting for fish to pass by your hook; it can be more than that.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones
Over the years, the cost of college tuition has been one of the central issues limiting students, like me, from obtaining the best education that one could receive. Usually, this results in students settling for a school nearby rather than being able to have the choice to go to the best one in which they were accepted into, due to such skyrocket prices. Much of this problem or concern has to do with out-of-state tuition being much higher than in-state tuition, sometimes almost doubling the price of in-state tuition! Therefore, students are more pressured to remain in state rather than go to out-of-state schools that may offer a better education.
George Orwell’s 1984 is a classic dystopian novel about the author’s predictions for American society in the future. The book follows the story of Winston Smith, a 39 year old lower-class member of the Outer Party in Oceania, London. Winston hates everything about the Party, Oceania’s totalitarian government, such as constantly being watched through an in-home telescreen, which cannot be shut off. He hates his thoughts being monitored by the Thought Police and the overall lack of personal freedom and privacy. Winston’s intolerance for being controlled drives him to keep a diary containing all of his negative, criminal thoughts about the government. The control exercised by the Oceanian government is extensive, but it does yield a benefits, such as being able to control what the citizens’ opinions about the leaders.
If there is one thing that we've learned from history it's the fact that keeping records and artifacts for future generations is crucial for the progress of humanity. We learn from the past and we improve and develop through our successes and mistakes. Ever since writing was invented, people have taken notes on everything: from important events to everyday tasks, from cooking recipes to scientific discoveries. We always leave something behind, and it is always better if we leave the evidence of our existence in an organized manner rather than leaving it in a chaotic mess. And this is probably how the idea of a time capsule was born.
Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.
The official definition of a time capsule is “a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical of the present time, buried for discovery in the future” (Webster). This tradition of time capsules started in 1936, when the Crypt of Civilization made a “Guinness Book of Records”, or there version of the time capsule and buried it in Atlanta, Georgia, that is planned to be opened in 8113 AD. The Time capsule holds numerous objects, including “over 640,000 pages of literature – Religious texts such as the Bible and the Koran are there, as are works of literature such as Homer’s ‘Iliad’ and Dante’s ‘Inferno’” (Lomography). The time capsule has been used through ought history, and has shows society how much life can change in a matter of years by opening it and looking at what's inside.
Can Berk Gungor Mr. Eppes English 4 3 April 2018 Persuasive Essay A time capsule reflects a period of time in history. Many people are familiar with the cliché “a picture is worth a thousand words.” In simpler terms, a picture can evoke memories and other sentiments that are much more complex than perceived at first glance. Photographs are especially unique because in some ways, they have the uncanny ability to transcend time and reality. Looking at a photo can take you back to a time where you were carefree and worriless, although your current situation may be the exact opposite. Looking at photos and reminiscing are particularly interesting when the viewer has some relation to the photo. Whether the viewer is the subject of the photo or was simply related to the circumstances portrayed in the photo, personal connections do seem to open the door to a whole other universe of interpretation. However, pictures also do have the ability to be deceptive and give off a feigned “reality.” People usually capture festive moments rather than despondent ones with the objective of making their family look cheerful and united in their family photo albums. Posing is a prime-contributing factor to inventing an inexistent reality within family photographs. In certain situations, photographs even have the ability to change our exact memories and adapt them to the elation and capriciousness portrayed in the picture. Only few people (i.e. the subjects of the photo) may be able to decipher the authentic sentiments behind the smokescreen that is posing for family photographs.
Petar Šarac English 4 3/4/2018 Mr. Eppes Persuasive essay The present day that we live in is full of so many important things that are making our lives easier, but I have always wondered what will the future generations have and how will they live. After all, our time in the twenty-first century is filled with technological advances and inventions and somehow the ideas are still at large and waiting to be brought to life. If I had a choice of bringing three things with me in the time capsule for the future generations that would be cars or any other type of vehicle that is polluting the air, the second item would be the Harry Potter book so the future
