There are three major types of unemployment which are structural, frictional, and cyclical. All three categories explain the many reasons why a person might be out of work in an economic system.
First, Structural unemployment occurs when the entire makeup of an economic system experiences fundamental problems such as uneven labor distribution across industries and a lack of skilled workers to fill these positions. Structural unemployment is not caused by changes in supply and demand as the other major types of unemployment. These individuals are usually married with children or live in a remote area. There are three main reasons why this type of unemployment is the worst.
First, structurally unemployed people may find that it is too late or too costly to go back to school to upgrade their skills. Many jobs now require some college education even to have a shot at an interview. Thus, many people who have just a high school diploma cannot find work because they do not have the skills or credential required. For example, many miners in small towns typically go straight into to the mines after they graduate high school. This theme created a structural problem because these workers could not find a job after their mines ran dry or got shut down by government policy.
Second, when a region experiences structural unemployment workers must move to a different area to find a job that matches their skills. Moving creates a problem because workers might have to move their entire family to accept a job offer. Most people remain unemployed because they are unwilling to move their entire life into a new
Many people would become jobless because low-level jobs would no longer require employees. Higher-level jobs would lack qualified candidates to work for the companies. Yes, college isn't right for everyone, but most of the time, the only way for people to have a successful lifestyle is to attend college. The largest cause of unemployment can be attributed to recession. The term recession refers to the backward movement of the economy for a long period. People spend only when they have to. (Nagle 2009). With people spending less there would be less money in circulation therefore, enterprises would suffer financially and people would suffer too. This is so because recession reduces the fiscal bases of enterprises, forcing these enterprises to reduce their workforce through layoffs. This is causing debt, which causes not enough money to create more jobs for citizens to have a job opportunity. When the U.S evens out the trades we still will be losing jobs.
