Criminal justice is the system of practices of governments used to uphold familiar control, restraint and extenuating crime, or penalizing those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts. There are three components to the criminal justice system which are police, courts and corrections. The criminal justice system can be overwhelming, intimidating, and perplexing for anyone who does not work with it every day. First, and most apparently, the imprisonment of criminals removes them from the general society and hinders their ability to commit further crimes. Some cases can be disposed of without the need of a trial.

This was the next step of the system which was court. Hauptmann's first appearance in court was on account for extortion shortly after he reappeared for the murder of baby Lindberg. Hauptmann's preliminary hearing was given on the date of his trial which is when he was all evidence were proved to lead back to him.The arraignment given were his charges of being proven guilty of murder first degree. Adjudication took place in this case when the jurisdiction did not appeal. As a result Bruno Hauptmann was sentenced death which in this case was execution. Today execution is still used in certain areas of the world. Some are willing to use execution as a form of control in the political sense, some only use it for brutal offenses and others have banned it due to the cruelty of using it as a form of punishment. The criminal justice system plays a very important role in the world that we live in today. The Lindberg case was a very special case that involved all sources and all three components of the criminal justice system.
