Problem Statement:
Thomas Greens job performance has not been meeting the expectations from his boss, Frank Davis. In the first 5 months since receiving his new promotion, Thomas Green was given two poor performance reviews and now is in jeopardy of losing his job. Now, Thomas is faced with the issue of resolving a growing power conflict between him and his boss before it is too late.
Hypothesis 1: It may be that there is a current conflict in managerial traits that is causing a power struggle.
Frank Davis is a manger that relies heavily on day to day operational management and is extremely task orientated. When it comes to sales, Davis is dependent on data, and believes it is the best approach to use when selling. Green on the other hand is relationship driven, and thinks about big picture ideas opposed to daily tasks. With having different managerial traits, a power struggle of agendas was inevitable. With Green just starting in the company, he lacks the managerial work experience and knowledge of the business. When hired by Shannon McDonald, Green was told, “I am hoping you compensate for your lack of experience by seeking out guidance from some of our more seasoned managers.” (Sasser,Beckham, P.3) Although, Green was instructed to seek help, he did not once seek advice from his manager, Frank Davis. Davis on a couple of occasions, had instructed Green on ways he could improve his performance, but the suggestions given to Green were ignored. Along with ignoring direction from his manager, Green also was openly criticized Frank Davis’s sales projections in meetings. With having no experience in planning and forecasting, it was in poor taste to challenge his manger about the projections. Instead of taking an opportunity to learn, Green has shown a “know it all attitude” that has made it difficult for Davis to manage
