Inventor, electricity, and scientists are three words that describe Thomas Edison. Many people know that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, but he was so much more. As a well known inventor, Thomas Edison showed Americans that electricity could benefit many people in their daily lives. His legacy showed us that hard work is never a waste. The construction of the Black Maria started in December of 1892 and was completed in May of 1893. Tom finds out that his older brother Pitt died at the age of 59 broke and penniless in 1891 (Benge, Pg 166) Then, only 5 years later in 92 year old father dies on February 26, 1896. (Benge Pg 166) Edison never liked to be somewhere where there was a lot of emotion so he avoided his family at that time. These events are the most important moments in Edison’s life. Thomas Edison left an enormous impact on society after he passed away. His legacy included that his success helped make the US and industrial power in the late 1800’s (Henstra, Pg 98) Along with that, “Tom and his electric lights won the hearts and minds of the public world.” (Benge, Pg 130) Because of his success, Tom was awarded the congressional Medal of Honor in 1928. (Dolan, Pg 118) These big points in his life is only a few things that make up his lasting legacy.
Thomas Edison lived a long and successful life but like everyone else, he can’t live forever. His body weakened by overwork and poor eating, so unfortunately he died in 1931 (Markham, Pg 16) He lived for 84 years and in that lifetime he accomplished more things than most people can dream of doing. (history.com) Tom dies peacefully at his home in Llewellyn Park never to be forgotten. (Dolan, Pg 118)

Thomas Jefferson was interested in being a scientist, after learning that there was no opportunity for a career in science in Virginia he then studied law. In 1767, Thomas Jefferson was admitted to the bar in 1769, when Jefferson public career started he already owned more than twenty-five hundred acres that he inherited from his father who died in 1757. After marring his wife Martha Wayles Skelton whom was a young widow his property doubled. After the death of Martha’s parents, his property doubled again.

Several hours later John Adams died in Massachusetts his last words being “Thomas Jefferson still survives”. The nation was struck by this coincidence. Although it would seem that Jefferson was a very rich man, he died more than 100,000 dollars in debt. Thomas Jefferson is known as one of the greatest men of American History.
Benjamin Franklin died on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84. At his funeral 20,000 people showed up. Benjamin Franklin devoted his life to helping and serving people. He was one of America’s greatest assets.
