To be exact, the definition of a fireman is a man who fights fires, usually a public employee or trained volunteer. However, there is much more that defines a fireman. A fireman is strong, courageous, unselfish, adaptable, caring, and trustworthy.
A fireman is mentally strong. There are times when a fireman must make a split second decision, which may save a life or could possible place someone’s life in further danger. While making these decisions, there are many thoughts going through a fireman’s head. For example, is it safe to go inside this burning building? Should I give this medication? While searching a burning building, Should I go right or left? What is the best way to ventilate the smoke from this building? Each of these questions requires mental strength. Also, mental strength is required when tragedy occurs. The fireman must be able to overcome the stress of the tragedy to continue his job.
Not only is a fireman strong mentally, but also physically. Being physically fit is just part of a fireman’s job. For example, cardiac stamina is vital for the fireman since the number one cause of death in firemen on duty is heart attack. The heart undergoes extreme stress when a fireman exerts himself in a burning building. If the fireman’s heart is not conditioned, he is at higher risk for heart attack. Also, rescuing a person from a burning building necessitates a large amount of strength. Often, an individual that has been trapped in a burning building is weak or unconscious from smoke inhalation and must be carried to safety. A fireman must also maintain strength in order to handle heavy equipment such as ladders, car extrication devices, and water hoses. A fireman is strong.

... his fellow firemen. Trust is vitally important when depending on an individual to save your life. Citizens and fellow firemen trust that the fireman will do what he needs to do in various situations. Firemen trust that their fellow coworkers are knowledgeable about what they are doing on the job. When there are lives at risk, whether it is a member of the community or another fireman, the fireman is trustworthy to complete his task and save lives.
A fireman can be defined in many ways and means something different to each individual. Individuals that have been rescued from a fire or have been provided emergency medical services may define a fireman differently than someone who never needed a fireman. The spouse or family of a fireman also may have a different perspective. The fireman as well has a definition of himself, just as ordinary man simply doing his job.
“ “You’ve got to get right back in the saddle. You can’t live in fear of something as basic as a fire.” ” (15).
Rigid and unimaginative firemen were the correct words to describe Montag. He was a fireman who felt pride in his job, the fire department and his boss Captain Beatty, who he respected and did what he was asked. Unlike any other of the employees he felt a pleasure of burning

On my opinion I think a good man is someone who recognizes his mistakes and profits from them, also a man is someone compassionate, sensitive, carrying, strong and valuable. I think Butler did a good job by showing his characters Lee and Beth weaknesses such as a fire burn inside their heart. They have struggle throughout their lives, that fire is love. Versus Perry who had to struggle with both the sentimental and natural fire, but later they reveals their ability and humility of mankind. In this article The Fireman: Immaculate Manhood, Robyn Cooper reveal many concepts of fire. He says, "As spirit, fire is both purifying and heavenly, punitive and damning. Fire also symbolize love and passion, as purifying and confining, burning passion as consuming and destroying. Fire is defined as masculine principle because of the association of fire and heat with energy, life and power (man is sun, woman is moon). In relation to sexual generation it was traditionally held that the spark of the semen ignited the cold womb to generate life. But the gender fire is more complex and contradictory." (143) As I said before the fire mansion has a double meaning, it is pure love that is out of control, Love that makes Beth questioning herself. Furthermore, she reveal she felt self-conscious, when Lee and Chloe came for their wedding, she couldn 't keep her eyes out of Lee, and I think she couldn 't answer what she felt in
'Is it true that long ago firemen put fires out instead of going to start them?’ ‘No. Houses. have always been fireproof, take my word for it.’ ‘Strange. I heard once that a long time ago houses used to burn by accident and they needed firemen to stop the flames.’ He laughed.
The job duties and training set to be a firefighter varies from which occupational source one chooses to be. Experts say, “Control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life property or the environment is at risk.”(www.careerinfonet.org online). In other words firefighters are obligated to do the tasks required of them. Another source states, “Include fire prevention, emergency medical source, hazardous material response, search and rescue, and disaster management.”(www.careerinfonet.org online). Another way to explain this is firefighters have many dangers they have to look out for. As one website says, “Fire fighters spend much of their time at the fire station.”(www.allthingspolitcal.org online). Obviously, firefighters spend their time waiting on a call. Experts say, “Abilities Learned – problem sensitivity, - reaction time, - arm hand steadiness, - manual dexterity, - multi-limb coordination, - response orientation.”(www.careerinfonet.org online). In other words, as a firefighter you learn problem...
In our society our rule book would consist of driving to the burning place, spraying water on the building, rescuing survivors, and reporting back to the fire station. Even though the firemen in both societies are different, they are also similar. This is because they both help their society. The firemen in Fahrenheit 451 help their society by burning the illegal books, the firemen in my society help by putting out the fires so they can cause less damage. Another way that the firemen differ is the liquid used in their job.
Mental health in the fire service is an upcoming problem, but has been occurring for years without firefighters even knowing it. Specifically post-traumatic stress disorder known as PTSD and firefighter suicides are the main issues that have a large impact in the fire service. This outline will lay out the main points that are a result, impact, or other subjects in relation to the two main issues above. Firefighter deaths are rising rapidly, members of the fire service need to be educated on PTSD and suicide to provide treatment before another devastating event occurs in result of the issues effects.
Firefighters are more than friends. You can't fight fires with friends. To fight fires you need a brotherhood. The men and women of the fire service across the globe consider each other family, this is one of the grand traditions of the fire department. Firefighters are constantly looking out for one another, thinking about the things they do and how it may affect the other’s lives and safety. Life safety is of the highest priority in the business of fire rescue. To achieve a safety standard there are many tasks that fire personnel are expected to carry out, for both a personal and a team related purpose. One of these tasks is the daily inspection of the fire apparatus upon arrival to the fire station. This task is with most certainty the most essential process that fire personnel are responsible for in order to get through the shift safely and efficiently.
After analyzing what this character chooses to do, it is easy to detect characteristics of resiliency. These characteristics resemble Chris from Into the Wild. For example, the ability to recover from challenging situations is shown in the following quote: “Placing it on the foundation, he fed the young flame with wisps of dry grass and with the tiniest dry twigs. He worked slowly and carefully, keenly aware of his danger. Gradually, as the flame grew stronger, he increased the size of the twigs with which he fed it.” (London) This quote also reveals that the character possesses the ability to act independently, another characteristic of resilient people. The character, after falling through ice, must build a fire to ensure survival. The fact that he is capable of building the fire at all shows that he can willingly recover from demanding situations. Despite the taxing situations the character has been through, he continues on to attempt to meet up with his friends, “At half past twelve, to the minute, he arrived at the forks of the creek. He was pleased at the speed he had made. If he kept it up, he would certainly be with the boys by six.” (London) This shows that he can readily recover from adversity, and that he possesses resilient
No fireman has their own hair style, their own clothes or even their own eyes. They all look the same which shows what conforming to the society can actually do to someone, and it shows how

Everyone has their own interpretation of what a firefighter is or does. The dictionaries definition says, “A person who is trained to put fires out, rescue people from fires, educate the public about fire prevention, and help people in other emergencies.” My definition of a firefighter growing up was a person who runs through burning building and found people who are screaming and crying, to save them. Now growing up with the desire to become a firefighter my definition has changed to someone, a women or man, who not only thinks about themselves but about the lives and loved ones of others. Whether it is rescuing people from a burning building, caring for their medical needs, extinguishing fires in a house, large building, or in a vehicle, this profession is about helping others.
As a child, I spent a lot of time with my great uncle. My grandfather had passed away when I was very young, and my great uncle stepped into the role of sergeant elder. From him, I learned many other things a growing country boy needs to know. He taught me to hunt and fish, and my memory of my time with him are as vivid now as when I was a kid. I remember going out on his boat to check the trot lines. I can still close my eyes and feel the wind blowing in my face and smell the fish and lake water. My great uncle influenced much of my young life, and ultimately inspired me to follow in his footsteps. Perhaps, I should say bunker boot steps, he was a firefighter. That is what made me the person I am today.
