The United States has tremendously grown throughout the centuries. Cultures have evolved as well as developed overall. Though we have considered new cultures and shown some appreciation, the people behind these ideas and customs should be welcomed. Immigration policies and refugee programs have become one of many concerns in politics. Government officials are either for or against immigrants residing or staying in refugee centers for some time. Fortunately, allowing immigrants who seek shelter or a better life to reside in the US is possible and should be allowed. My proposal includes funding refugee programs, passing laws, providing legal protection and regulations, and simple petitions. Thesis statement: Migration can positively impact the …show more content…
As is expected, many people are strongly opinionated about the dangers illegal immigration can cause and how it negatively impacts the country, and as expected, those with political power try their best to convince Americans with the same mindset. Congressman Doug Lamborn, a Republican from Colorado, wrote on his website describing his political views on illegal immigration. Lamborn states, “Illegal immigration compromises our nation’s security, allowing potential terrorists to hide in the same shadows.” Other dangers caused by immigrants include overcrowding in classrooms and jobs, reduction of public funds, and high consumption of affordable housing. For these problems to be prevented, there are three major components that Lamborn mentions, those being deterrence, apprehension, and removal (Lamborn). People like Lamborn are typically those who believe that immigrants take advantage of benefits that should only be limited to American citizens. A preconception among these people is that immigrants take jobs, and houses, are lazy, dangerous, and unresponsible for not paying taxes. Surprisingly, Lamborn includes an act that he …show more content…
After thorough research, I was able to fully understand why some politicians and the government have made it hard to improve immigration policies as well as refugee programs. Locating evidence for my argument and evidence for counterarguments denies any kind of limits or boundaries to understanding the pros and cons of improving immigration and refugee policies. The idea of just focusing on one side of a concept leads to preconceptions about a lot of the political issues our country faces, but in this case, the preconceptions about the government and illegal immigration. The media is our biggest enemy, the way they have the power to twist stories and mold our perspectives firmly instead of creating a fluid and understanding viewpoint. From what I have learned and researched about my topic, there are so many perspectives on the topic of immigration and refugees, there are those who support refugee programs and seek better conditions, while there are others who wish to deport those people who come into our country because of insecurity and other illegitimate
Immigration has existed around the world for centuries, decades, and included hundreds of cultures. Tired of poverty, a lack of opportunities, unequal treatment, political corruption, and lacking any choice, many decided to emigrate from their country of birth to seek new opportunities and a new and better life in another country, to settle a future for their families, to work hard and earn a place in life. As the nation of the opportunities, land of the dreams, and because of its foundation of a better, more equal world for all, the United States of America has been a point of hope for many of those people. A lot of nationals around the world have ended their research for a place to call home in the United States of America. By analyzing primary sources and the secondary sources to back up the information, one could find out about what Chinese, Italians, Swedish, and Vietnamese immigrants have experienced in the United States in different time periods from 1865 to 1990.
Immigrants must overcome many barriers to succeed in America. First, migrants frequently must learn a new language. Inability to communicate is a critical barrier for accessing the health care system (Urrutia-Rojas, Marshall, Trevino, Lurie, & Minguia-Bayona, 2006). Second, the processes of work and schooling for themselves and their families can be daunting. Lastly, immigrants use the established social network of longer duration residents for reference and knowledge (Nandi, Galea, Lopez, Nandi, Strongarone, & Ompad, 2008). For purposes of this report, there are three different types of immigrant: legal, undocumented, and refugees or persons seeking asylum. All three types of residents want to succeed and achieve their personal dream.
The United States was formed by the immigration of many people from all over the world. Americans take pride in knowing that we are a people of vast ethnic backgrounds and culture. However, at the present time, the flow of illegal immigration, as well as a large influx of other legal immigrants is placing a strain on our land of "huddled masses." Legal immigration to the United States can easily be handled and is welcomed by most Americans. However, the flow of illegal immigrants, especially from Mexico, must be stemmed, due to the strain it is placing on the government, (at the local, state and federal level), as well as the general population. Illegal immigrants are costing the United States over 24 billion dollars a year in taxpayers money (National Review 12.13.93). Something must be done to reduce the flow of illegal immigration into the United States. The focus of this paper will be the problems caused by and possible solutions to the problem of illegal immigration.
Immigration can be defined as passing foreigners to a country and making it their permanent residence. Reasons ranging from politics, economy, natural disasters, wish to change ones surroundings and poverty are in the list of the major causes of immigration in both history and today. In untied states, immigration comes with complexities in its demographic nature. A lot of cultural and population growth changes have been witnessed as a result of immigration. In the following paper, I will focus on how immigration helps United States as compared to the mostly held view that it hurts America.

Immigration has always, and will always, be an essential part of America’s demographic and cultural diversity. Our country was founded on the immigration of Europeans to the New World. Without them our nation would not be as advanced as it is today. Over the past three centuries, America’s immigration policies have evolved, both positively and negatively. Although we are moving forward, several episodes in our country’s immigration policy have targeted and attacked certain ethnic or cultural groups.
Immigration has been a key factor of the success of the United States from the start. More specifically, without the influence of immigrants our country would not be the place that it is today. There is, however, great controversy surrounding the idea that immigration, whether legal or illegal, should be accepted or denied. Since the beginning of time, immigration has played a large role in the history of the United States. Immigration to the U.S. has been a popular desire since before the world wars (Archiv 141). The desire continues even today. One of America's most influencial leaders, George Washington, said:
Immigrants leave their countries in search for a better life and improvement of their situation. There is no singular reason for immigration; motivations range from better economic prospects to political safety. As of late, the number of immigrants living in the United States is an estimated 11 million. Those who immigrate are expected to contribute to the United States culturally, politically, and economically. Yet, full assimilation becomes difficult to achieve when the immigrant is made into “the other” by the country of reception.
Illegal immigration has become a controversial topic in politics within the US. Some believe that undocumented immigrants are vital to the U.S. economy because they take the jobs Americans do not want. Others however, have the opinion that undocumented immigrants should be punished for doing things illegally, arguing that undocumented immigrants are taking the jobs of the American people and taking abusing it by not paying taxes. Although there are speculations that support the claim that immigrants should be punished, there are several counterarguments that state why they should be allowed to stay. Undocumented immigrants are an important factor to the development of the United States of America, immigrants have supplied a widespread example
It is my opinion that illegal immigration has become one of the scourges of today’s society in America. According to many sources, such as the Federation for American Immigration Reform, illegal immigration is actually a crime. In my view, anyone who participates in the crime of hoarding an illegal immigrant should be fined or even imprisoned for a year or more, with multiple offenses. Not only do these people overstay their welcome, but they crowd our classrooms and steal our jobs. Unless an individual from the Mexico border has been granted citizenship and licensed to live in America, then they shouldn’t bother to face the consequences should they be caught. I firmly believe that illegal immigrants should not be allowed to stay in the United
their higher education since it is hard for them to return back to their home countries (229). In
In the novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald carefully incorporates the idea of movement to underscore the moral decay of the wealthy elite in New York. The migration of the characters from the West to the East represents their pursuit of endless prosperity of social status. However, this movement embodies a restless, aimless lifestyle, exhibited through extravagant parties, endless dances, and an eternal state of leisure, unlike the suffering people of the Valley of Ashes who are deemed not superior. These activities represent a sense of emptiness in the wealthy. Fitzgerald’s depiction of constant movement highlights the depression and moral decay of the characters, whose wealth allows them to have an artificial life with pleasures that can be temporary but ones that do not provide true satisfaction.
Why is immigration a hot political issue facing policymakers and public administrators? What can the states and federal government do to resolve comprehensive immigration reform?
Throughout the week I’ve found numerous sources on the subject of immigration: such as scholarly journals, a few articles from popular news/newsmagazines, three websites that provided good background information, and an opposing viewpoint page through the database. The research helped me gain a ton of information on the topic and how to better understand what’s happening today. I also understand that immigration affects everyone differently, we all have different opinions on the subject. Most of these sources talked about the negativity revolving around immigration and the different reasons why its driving a wedge between the people on the United States. Ultimately I understand why some people are bothered with “immigrants” immigrating into the US but I also primarily understand why others agree with letting them in, because this is the land of the free; and everyone deserves a chance to have a great
A child reunites with his or her mother for the first time in forever, put yourself in their shoes and imagine what it would be like. How would you feel? Immigration has been an important and frequently debated topic in the U.S. because of many people migrate here legally and illegally and the effects it has in the country, but first what is immigration? According to the Oxford dictionary, Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. In the last few years, a lot has changed with the Immigration policy in the United States. According to American Immigration Council (AIC), the body of law governing current immigration policy, provides for an annual worldwide limit of 675,000 permanent immigrants, with certain exceptions for close family members (AIC, 2014). Everyone has different opinions about the change, but I am more interested in the reason behind why people migrate to United
