Immigration has been a key factor of the success of the United States from the start. More specifically, without the influence of immigrants our country would not be the place that it is today. There is, however, great controversy surrounding the idea that immigration, whether legal or illegal, should be accepted or denied. Since the beginning of time, immigration has played a large role in the history of the United States. Immigration to the U.S. has been a popular desire since before the world wars (Archiv 141). The desire continues even today. One of America's most influencial leaders, George Washington, said:

Many argue that with the increase of immigrantion comes added trouble for our country. Some Americans fear that with more immigrants in our country comes fewer jobs left for our citizens and that our country will become over populated. However, on the bright side of things, we are able to gain medical advances, cheaper labor, and a variety of tasty foods and great entertainment. As with any national issue, there are always two sides. Citizens are encouraged to look at both sides before choosing. "Social Responsibilites" A good majority of doctors in the United States today are legal immigrants. In fact, a good majority of doctors in America are not of American decent. If it were not for the help of fresh minds such as these, Americans would likely be behind in research. Immigrants work hard and study hard in order to make a better life for themselves in the U.S. In a country that has many people in need, it is a blessing to have immigrants bring new ideas and advancements to our attention. Many of the treatment methods and medications are derived from places other than the United States. One important advancement was that of the CAT scan. A computerized axial tomography scan, or CAT scan involves beams that are measured in order to pass through a specific section from various angles (Fleron 1). This is a very common test run in hospitals every day. If it were not for the help of Allan Cormac, we might not have the CAT scan at all. Allan was born in South Africa`, but later immigrated to the U.S. where he would spend the rest of his life ( nobelprize). This is just one of many examples of why immigration can be beneficial. Another important factor that comes with immigration is that it can boost the economy.
There are two sides to this specific factor but really both benefit the United States. In the United States there are many jobs that require intense labor or do not pay enough, therefore the jobs do not get fullfilled. This hurts the U.S. because there is no one to get the job done. However, when immigrants get to our country they will often take what ever job that they can find. They will also work for less than an American would get paid. Actually, most immigrants who come to the United States are coming for a better job in order to support their family. Many countries do not provide enough jobs for their native people. The U.S. has even gone so far as to move its production plants out of the country into other countries. This provides an opportunity for people to stay in their homelands. It also benefits the U.S. with cheaper labor. Finally, immigration contributes to America's variety of food and entertainment.
Without influences of food from other countries, our plating would be rather dull. America is not a very healthy country either, so we benefit from studies on other countries food intake. Our country is known as "The Melting Pot" for a reason. We do have a great desire for entertainment. Other countries also provide us with many sources of entertainment.
The America that we know today is filled with cultural influences, whether we realize it or not. Things such as food and entertainment are major contributers to our daily lives. Many of the dishes that we eat are that of Italian or Mexican origin. Many of the t.v. and music icons of today are British or Asian. For example, Adele has made her singing career quite a success in America though she is from England. If we did not have any cultural diversity, we would miss out on what the rest of the world has to offer us.
As one can see, the United States is an important place of diversity and multiculturalism. Without immigration it would not be the place that it is today. The United States is dependent on immigration to help it flourish. Jobs that would normally not be filled, are filled and for less pay. Immigrants are passionate about what they do and want to have a better life. If we continue to allow them to come live in America, we will continue to see a positive cultural
experience. "Narrative" Being a witness to immigration first hand has helped shape me into the person that I am today. My small town has a city school but within the county there are six elementary schools and three highschools. I went to a county elementary school that was close to my house. This particular county school is known for having a large number of Hispanic students. I have always been shy, and so on my first day of school I was clinging even tighter to my mom and not wanting her to leave me. Once we got to my classroom and she convinced me that it would be okay, my teacher took my hand and showed me where I would be sitting. The desks were grouped in sets of four. Slowly but surely, the desks around me filled and I was excited to begin my kindergarten career. Little did I know what was about to happen. As the day progressed, we discussed common kindergarten rules, colored, worked on counting and reading some simple words, and even went outside. Suddenly, my teacher began to teach us to count in spanish, then she taught us to say the names of colors in spanish. I can still remember it to this day. There were a handful of hispanic students in my class and this was probably the only thing that they could understand. After a few days passed I made a new friend, Cecilia. Cecilia knew a bit more English than most in our class. She and I would play together at recess and even had our desks together in a square. She was my first friend in elementary school. Our friendship lasted for a few years, but unfortunately we grew apart. In the years that we were good friends, however, she helped to further my understanding of just how much difference there was between the U.S. and Mexico. The United States had given her family more opportunities, such as her father a place to work. At such a young age, I picked up on these things. As we moved on from elementary school to jr high, we were still acquaintances. More often than not, we would share a table at lunch with our mutual friends. I am still in awe today at just how much our friendship helped prepare me for the real world. I am happy to have gone to a multicultural school. I for one believe that if we all grow up in a multicultural society, there is little room for racist remarks. We would learn to appreciate everyone for who they are. Children do not see skin color like adults do. So why not be more accepting? After all, everyone has a gift worth sharing.
American culture and most of the things that people do, see, and think wouldn’t be the way they are if it weren't for the Romans and what they created and accomplished as an ancient empire. In ancient Rome, in their time of expansion and flourish were able to create and build so much technology and ideas that helped build their empire and create a unique image of what they are. These in turn spread with some being so groundbreaking that it they are still used commonly and frequently and others becoming the inspiration and basis of even more achievements The Roman Empire is the most influential empire to have impacted U.S. culture due to their achievements such as spread of Christianity, the creation of the Latin language, and the ideas justice.
Immigration has been prevalent in The United States of America since the days of colonization in the 17th century. Masses of migrants around the world have sought a place in which to escape persecution, gain economic fortunes, and live their lives in freedom. America has always symbolized the land of opportunity everyone has been looking for, as exemplified by the inscription on The Statue of Liberty:

Whether it is due to religious beliefs, economic problems or even war in their native country, emigrants will always come to America with hopes of starting a new life in the “Land of the Free”. Fortunately, the people who do choose to legally migrate to America are generally motivated for success and well-educated. Even the immigrants who are not well educated are motivated to succeed, work hard and take jobs in areas where labor forces are low or jobs that a native-born American may not even consider, effectively making them a contributing member of society.

Kennedy, “Everywhere immigrants have enriched and strengthened the fabric of American life.” Thus, in today’s society, we can say that immigrants are what made America possible—economically and socially. We are in a melting pot era where the impossible was made possible. From the time John F. Kennedy was elected in 1960, making a promise to change the national origins system to unite the nations of all countries equally. Hence, in 1965, under Lyndon Johnson’s administration, Kennedy’s promise came into light, amending the INS—favoring unification of families, not national origins. Although, the unification was made possible, the peacefulness never lasted.
Immigration has always, and will always, be an essential part of America’s demographic and cultural diversity. Our country was founded on the immigration of Europeans to the New World. Without them our nation would not be as advanced as it is today. Over the past three centuries, America’s immigration policies have evolved, both positively and negatively. America is sometimes referred to as a "nation of immigrants" because of our largely open-door policy toward accepting foreigners pursuing their vision of the American Dream. Recently, there has been a clamor by some politicians and citizens toward creating a predominantly closed-door policy on immigration, arguing that immigrants "threaten" American life by creating unemployment by taking jobs from American workers, using much-needed social services, and encroaching on the "American way of life." While these arguments may seem valid to many, they are almost overwhelmingly false, and more than likely confused with the subject of illegal immigration. In fact, immigrants actually enhance American life by creating, not taking jobs, bolster social service funds through tax payments, and bring valuable technical knowledge and skills to our country. If we are to continue to excel as a nation, the traditionalists who fear an encroachment of foreign-born Americans must learn to accept that we achieved our greatness as a result of being "a nation of immigrants."

America is one of the most diverse nation in the world. This country is just a place filled with people collaborating from all around the world. Because of this we have many diverse different things and reimaginings. Such as food and good example is buffets. I have been to buffets with many different foods that originated in other countries.
