The Cheating Five By: Brandon Wejrowski The Theodore Boone series is a very thrilling series. The book I read for my project is the sixth book in the series Theodore Boone the Scandal by John Grisham. This mystery book was a very wise way to continue the series. Theo is in 8th grade and a problem comes to his attention about a handful of teachers cheating on the forward tests at a rival school. Can Theo crack the case or will the teachers get away with a crime! This fantastic series takes place in a small city named Strattenburg. The book has four main settings and a handful of minor settings. This story takes place during the end of the year when the students have to take standardized testing. They go through a week of testing and when the week is over, Theo and the other 8th grade scouts go on a hiking trip to relax and get there mind off testing. When they get back, April wants to meet Theo at Guff’s to tell him something important that she learned. When they meet they talk about the how April learned about the scandal by her old friend. April wrote a letter to the school board informing them, but not saying who she was, about the up rise of the scores. The board investigated and brought in a lie detector for the teachers. All the teachers refused so they all were suspended. At the end of the day one of the teachers came to the law firm to ask if Mrs. Boone would be the teacher’s lawyers. She said yes so now the teacher’s had a lawyer. After a day Theo got woke up by a phone call. It was his uncle calling asking him to do him a favor. Of course Theo said yes so he went to his uncle who was in the city jail. At the jail his uncle told him to go to his apartment and grab three one hundred dollar bills. Theo did that brought the money back and bailed out his uncle. His uncle then told him why he was in jail. Since he was already late for school and so was April, Theo just skipped school and had a picnic with April. This is the part of the story when the teachers got arrested and Mrs. Boone got furious about it. So
It started as any ordinary day at Fowler Middle School, kids laughing and learning. But, at 8:51 AM, a classroom of students walked into a horrifying scene. Marilyn Tokzulott’s second-period class found their teacher dead on the floor behind her desk, murdered. Despite the many suspects, one stands out above all. Billy Plummer, the boyfriend of the victim's daughter, committed this murder. It is clear that the murderer was Mr.Plummer because of involvement in previous conflicts with Mrs. Tokzullot, presence at the crime scene and access to the murder weapon.
Bill goes to trial for the death of Mary and they sentence him guilty. Mary’s mom cried after the verdict was announced. Ralph hears the news about Bill and he begins to break down and feels guilty, he keeps saying that he needs to see Jack. Ralph finally sees Jack and beats him up, which finally escalates till Mae to call the police. The drug raid was busted and all the people involved in the operation were arrested. Blanche tells the police what really happened, that Bill was framed by Ralph and it was all their faults. Bill got off of trail because there was new evidence that corroborated his innocence. Blanche then jumps out of the window right before she was going to either be prosecuted for accessory to murder or going to be used as a suspect against Ralph. Before she actually jumped she reminisced about how she affected and basically ruined Bill’s life since he cheated on her then got his girlfriend killed. Then Ralph is put through a mental institution because they believed he had to be crazy to act the way he did. Then the original guy at the beginning says his last few words about how marijuana could take over anyone’s
Mrs and Mr. Malloy his parents who thought they need to be a little more supportive in his decisions. Well at the time Philip was mad that he got a D in english and couldn’t make the track team, and put it on the english teacher. Now the Mrs and Mr. Malloy didn’t think to question what happen they just supported his patriotism. Mr. Malloy was the one who even took him to the reporter that started this whole thing. So we go back to them not questioning their son and believing everything he says. What didn’t make this situation any better is Mr. Malloy was having a bad time at work and was mad about not having power. Now he wasn't going to have this happen to his son. Mrs. Malloy was kinda hesitant at first, and then she went to the school to pick him up for the suspension. The Vice Principal was very rude to her and that may have been what made her not question him in the beginning of the story. So then then they had the story basically go from district level to national level, because of that reporter. So really the parents should’ve questioned him a little more and not let him get away with so
Once they paid for the necessities they were back on the road. Bill realize he didn’t pay for the can of tuna and notice a sheriff car following them. The lights went off and the sheriff pulled them over. They were taking to the station for questioning of a murder. The whole time while being questioned, they both thought they were be accused of shoplifting. Once they realized what was happening, that’s when Bill’s cousin came to defend them.
The story seems takes place at an all boys catholic high school named Trinity. They are in the season of Fall and it takes place in the early 1970’s. Trinity is where our storyline takes place. At first it seems like a regular school but as we dig deeper into the minds and narratives of the students we discover Trinity’s dark secrets such the clubs,Brother Leon's unusual teaching technique, and the student hazing done by the school's secret group the Vigils.The time period which they are in is described by the lack of modern technology.

One of the main characters Paul, just moved to New York from Saskatoon, Alberta. This novel takes place in the mid 1980’s. At this high school, Don Carey High, none of the students or teachers care about anything that goes on within the school.

Andy goes back to school and talks to his basketball coach about how he feels about Rob's death and how his fiends and family feel about the accident. After April writes the Christmas Story, incorporating things in her life while living with the DeRosiers, she is transferred to St. Bernadette’s Academy. While at St. Bernadette she tells a very big lie. She tells all her friends that her parents had died in a plane crash, this shows how she is still looking down at her heritage.

The story is about the high school years. Many times when we are growing up we can’t wait to get there because we will be treated as adults, but the truth is the problems that come along when we are older can be difficult. The various clans of students help present the theme by showing us that there are many different types of people. The popular cheerleaders, the jocks, the geeks and those who are just trying to fit in. Melinda transforming the janitor’s closet symbolizes her hiding her feelings and Melinda’s inability to speak and tell people what happened to her. High school can be fun but unfortunately through the eyes of Melinda it was a very hard time.
