The novel Looking For Alaska, by John Green, is a story of joy, love and sorrow through the relationship between the two protagonists, the style of writing the author uses, and finally the scene of how Dr.Hyde teaches the inevitable. Pudge, the protagonist is the new kid at Culver Creek boarding school and through his new roommate ‘The Colonel’(Chip) he is introduced to Alaska Young. Ms. Young is no ordinary person to Pudge, in fact to him she is extraordinary, and like no one he has ever met. Pudge fantasizes a relationship with Alaska but is torn apart when she tells him she has a boyfriend. Although Dr.Hyde’s history class is often dreaded by the students, towards the end of the novel he said something that really spoke to me as the reader; Hyde summed up life. “‘Everything that comes together falls apart’, the Old Man said. “Everything. The chair I'm sitting on. It was built, and so it will fall apart. I'm going to fall apart, probably before this chair. And you're gonna fall apart. The cells and organs and systems that make you you-they came together, grew together, and so must fall apart’”(Page 196). This quote came fifty-one days after Alaska’s death. What Dr.Hyde said here made the book worth reading, in fact, I’ve never heard anything more relatable in life than what was said here. In life, everyone will eventually fall apart; hopefully a long time from now, but it’s something that will happen so it’s important to make the most of life today. The journey through life's a maze; a labyrinth. Few will ever find their labyrinth, and the one’s in search will die too young to discover it. Alaska wanted to unveil her labyrinth, but never did. Task/Activity: Instead of taking a spelling test, students in both classes jumped right into PARCC preparation. Students received a packet containing a reading selection from the novel A Woman Who Went to Alaska and multiple choice questions that was included on the 2015 PARCC and released to the public. Students read the packet and answered the questions independently before the class reconvened, discussing the reading and its questions as a group. Following this activity, students worked together in pairs to write down the challenges they faced while completing the packet and identify the skills they still need in order to succeed on the PARCC exam. After this, the class received a packet titled “Ruby Bridges: Girl of Courage,” and were instructed to complete the first task, which including reading and annotating as well as completing four questions about the passage. The rest of the packet would be completed in stages during the following week.
Today I am going to be explaining how the three different point of views or P.O.V the narrators in three different stories all about unfairness to the miners during the gold rush or the late eight-teen-hundreds though. Mainly I'm going to be mentioning the character's narrators background, family, and their opinions. For opinions I'm going to be talking about if they thought the rules where to strict or just right.
However, as the same happens much too often in real life, Jekyll is unable to keep this promise. He has already sunken too far into his addiction and it completely controls him, which Stevenson brilliantly illustrates as Hyde gains strength and begins to take over. As Hyde becomes stronger, he usurps Jekyll's body, mind, and life - just as drugs and alcohol often do to addicts, who sometimes lose their jobs, their possessions, and their friends. Jekyll finds himself turning into Hyde spontaneously, so he has to seclude himself from society, and give up his existence as Jekyll. His addiction has gotten so out of hand that his life has been completely destroyed; he is beyond resolution, since the only way to combat his problem is to kill Hyde, thereby killing himself.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hyde was an evil being it was slowly starting to take over and Dr. Jekyll knew that was happening. By shutting him out self off more and more he was helping everyone around him. Since he did not have any control over Mr. Hyde he had to stop Mr. Hyde from hurting anyone else and couldn’t tell anyone of these issues. In the book where Hyde and Jekyll are struggling, it says “ I was so far in my reflections” (53). This was Dr. Jekylls note for his struggles when he was finally telling people. He was deep in reflection and hiding them self off because he knew it was too late. It also states in this section of the book: “When Jekyll locks himself in his library” (61). Everyone was worried about him even though sometimes he does do this like in the beginning when he’s in solitude to work on his research. Dr. Jekyll had finally shut himself off from the word completely due to him knowing it was his final moments. He knew that since his potion was out and he could not find more materials it was over so he made a backup plan for when Hyde has taken over. This brutal plan was to kill himself and ultimately this is what he did. He had put all the other parts of the plan into effect and left a note to explain what truly happened, thus signifying the end of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, helping others but only helping him at the
John Green is the author of Looking for Alaska and several other award winning books. He is the number one New York Times bestselling author and specializes in writing for young adult fiction. He wrote similar books to Looking for Alaska such as The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns. In Looking for Alaska I found that the book had a great use of foreshadowing, tone, but I didn’t really like ending of the book. Miles Halter is a new student at Culver Creek Preparatory School in Alabama.
Throughout time, generations have been exposed to the theme of teenagers rebelling in literature, films, and music. Teenagers rebelling is a topic that everyone can relate to because of the pressure that comes with being a teenager. During this time, teenagers are being given rules to follow, expectations to meet, and society telling them what they need to do to make their lives meaningful. The exposure to rebelling themes in the media is presenting them with messages to relate to, and can even showcase the consequences that will come with their actions.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “It is much easier to suppress a first desire than it is to satisfy those that follow.” This is certainly true in the situation of Dr. Jekyll, as the temptation of becoming Mr. Hyde becomes stronger as he continually surrenders to the wickedness that is constantly misleading him. Mr. Hyde is never contented, even after murdering numerous innocents, but on the contrary, his depravity is further intensified. The significance of the repression of a desire is a prevalent theme throughout the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson, as the inability to repress one’s curiosity can lead to a fatal end, whereas the repression of a desire that can no longer contain itself, or the repression of confronting a guilty conscience, will conclude in a tragic ending and in this case specifically,
Jekyll started out stronger than Hyde, but the longer he stayed Hyde, the more he enjoyed what he was doing as Hyde. This shows how humans will indulge in sins even if it meant eternal damnation.

The quote shows the socializing and at the same time it shows him then going into isolation I know because it says ‘he came out of his seclusion’ meaning he was once isolating himself. Mr. Hyde changed from being very grumpy and impatient to being very jumpy and panicky at the end. “.Mr. Hyde broke out of all bounds, and clubbed him to the earth.” This creates interest because you want to know more about the characters and how they actually change.
As more people in London set out to impress one another readers find that what we see is not always what we get. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde exploits the well-to-do men and women, who come across as fine and upstanding citizens, to be hiding secrets from one another in attempt to maintain their reputations. An example of this behavior is found in the very beginning of the book as Enfield detail the account of Hyde running over the little girl. After this incident the girl’s doctor and family chased her to make sure she was okay then after seeing Hyde and his horrifying appearance they took the opportunity to blackmail him. With all of this taking place late at night it was easy for these community members to treat Hyde this was because there were few witnesses however if the incident took place in the daylight with many people around they may not have reacted the same way. In this short story Hyde does not fundamentally exist, he is meant to be the embodiment of man’s primitive counterpart therefore his character is expected to behave like an animal, this is exhibited through the way in which he tramples over the ‘child’ and displays no guilt or remorse. In addition, Hyde provides no motives for his actions, since he’s not lead by rational thinking like his ‘better’ side Dr Jekyll or the logical Mr Uttersone, but inspired to act violently because he simply enjoys being immoral. His unprovoked assault on the little girl indicates that his cruelty extends to virtually anyone and foreshadows the deaths of other innocent characters such as Mr Carew. Hyde is repeatedly defined as a ‘figure’ and ‘human juggernaut’,
When Jekyll first turns into Hyde, he feels delighted at his newfound freedom. He states: "... And yet when I looked upon /that ugly idol in the glass, I was conscious of no repugnance, /rather of a leap of welcome..."(131). Now he could be respected as a scientist and explore his darker passions. Stevenson shows duality of human nature through society.
In her short story “The Last Day in the Field” Gordon portrays Aleck as the typical elderly gentleman, whose leg due to age begins to pain. Even with his leg pain, on the last day of the hunting season, Aleck goes hunting with Joe, a younger gentleman, whom Aleck feels compelled to treat as a son. Throughout the hunt the knowledge Aleck gives to Joe is not as valuable as the life lessons he is unintentionally teaching through his actions.
