Killer of angels written by Michael Shaara has two main themes, life and death and faith. More specifically the two themes are friendship bonds and the importance of life and believing in yourself. The novel Killer Angels is about a war for a way of life or for a change. Both sides learn many lessons throughout the war the three being life, death, and faith. Through the war the men will learn lessons on what a war is. War is not a game and the men who fought in this war learned what it meant to be in a war to fight for your country. Wars make people appreciate life and the different aspects of life. Wars show people who is important and what priorities are important. Honor without intelligence . . . could lose the war,”( pg 113). This quote specifically talks about lee's style of gentleman warfare. Lee would rather have his pride and his honor stay intact than to ruin his reputation for the sake of the war. The man who is speaking of the way lee handles the war does not agree with lee’s gentleman warfare. Disagreements are a way of life of the war. It is something that will happen in war and a plain example of war. “The cause”(Loc 1190). When fighting a war there is always a cause to why each side is fighting the war. In this war the cause of fighting for there freedom isn't just fighting for their own freedom. It's about fighting for everyone's freedoms. There are many causes for fighting the war. They don't want tyranny in a country that was built to get rid of it. This shows how the war war also symbolizes life. Everything we do in our lives has a reason. Every choice people make has a reason behind it, a cause. War is no other there is always a cause. “Killing of brothers” (Pg 325). War put brother against brother and drives wedges between families. Just as most situations in life many will not agree on the same thing. This causes there to be a distance amongst each other. Wars are not fought without faith in the men’s selves and faith in god. Wars bring out mens true colors when it comes to faith. In every movie of war, the man who did not believe in god always finds himself praying to god for help. They have lost faith in their leaders but not in themselves (Loc 139). While the Army has lost faith in their leaders they still have faith in themselves and believe that they can win this battle. This is important because the faith in themselves will overall help them to win the battle. Faith can take the men a long way, especially when they have lost faith in all but themselves. It makes the war and the want to continue more enthusiastic because they haven't given up on themselves. From personal experience I have learned that faith can help any situation. I have not been in a war type of situation but from what my life experiences have been I have learned that having faith in myself and in god is what will help me to achieve my goals. If you are not confident and don't put your trust in god there is no way of being able to achieve your goals. “In the sight of God.” ( Loc 5210). All the men who have died are now equal in god's eyes and no one is above anyone else. God has not been the biggest role in the novel but in the end this quote is written. It is about all the men who have died in the war. Both sides of the war and how they are no longer fighting. They are equal in the eyes of god and will
