Janie gets married to 3 different people: Logan, Jody, and Tea Cake. Their Eyes Were Watching God was written by Zora Neil Hurston. Hurston was an important person in history as she helped with the renaissance. The story takes place in Florida in the 1900’s. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie was married young. Janie was a free woman but lived on property of a white family. Janie got married at 15 and had 3 relationships in her life. This signifies the end of their relationship. In the end, Janie was never upset that Jody died and never mourned for him. Janie was transformed by understanding that popularity and money are not everything. As Janie learns how to be treated and how money and popularity are not everything, she comes to her relationship with the sweet Tea Cake. In this relationship, she learns that it takes time to find the right person for you. As this whole story is narrated by Janie in a flashback, she talks about all her memories. “So the very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with Tea Cake” (Hurston Page 133) They see that Janie got ready to pick beans with Jody. This shows that Janie wanted to work with him, not even for the money, as she had a lot of money saved up. This is significant because Janie never wanted to work with Logan, but Janie gladly works with Tea Cake to pick beans.
