There are many ways to let out your emotions. One of the most popular ways is through music. While most big-name music stars portray their often “Rockstar” lifestyles, The Weeknd gives you an inside look at what comes with this lifestyle. He does so by portraying himself as someone who is not only human but also realizes his exploitation and wrongful acts that he commits. From the beginning of the song, the bad string of decisions he sings about begin to unfold. The opening lyrics of the song state “I left my girl back home, I don’t love her no more” (Weeknd 1-2). This line alone already describes how he is running away from a relationship that he does not want to be in but at the same time allows you to wonder if he ever did love her. When you think about famous stars people are often throwing themselves at them and it’s hard to believe that someone who is not married while being so young and has this level of fame has decided to start settling down trying to find his lifelong partner. The lines state “Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame. Bring the drugs baby, I could bring my pain.” (Weeknd 9-10). These lines speak volumes about the drastic change from the opening lines of the song. The first line of the chorus implies he does not feel he is loved so he is asking someone else to love him and in return he is bringing his shame. Similar to the first line he also asks this person to bring drugs and in return he will bring his pain. What I get from this is the sense that he must rely on reckless actions such as a consistent usage of drugs in order for him to feel normal. When he says, “Bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain” (Weeknd 10) this could also imply that his usage of drugs contributes to his reckless actions by giving him this sense of
