Bruce Springsteen once wrote in his song “Spirit In The Night” does “anybody wanna go on up to Greasy Lake?” T. Coraghessan Boyle referenced this Springsteen song in his short story “Greasy Lake.” Unlike the song which is supposed to be about people having a fun and rebellious night, Boyle turns Springsteen’s lyrics into dark and painful memories. The story was about the narrator, who remained unnamed throughout the entirety of it, and his friends Digby and Jeff who went to hang out at Greasy Lake. They lived in a time where it was “good to be bad” and they did not care about anything in the world. These characters did whatever they wanted, and their actions did have consequences. Throughout the story, the narrator’s personal growth was seen with how he viewed the

“I’ve got life, I’ve got love, I’ve got faith and that’s enough. We feel sorrow, we feel pain, but there’s sunshine after rain. So I’m alright.”
The other person featuring in his song, J Tsunami, describes what he went through was the same as Herb. “Understand that I can relate to everything that you sayin, because I grew up just like you” (52). He was forced to having a hand in raising his younger siblings. “Three years old thats when moms and pops relationship was torn, Them not f*ckin' with each other made me father my lil brothers” (60-61). As a child, he was forced to move from place to place and how he barely had a meal to come home to. “From the city to the burbs we was goin back and forth. So I was in and out of schools, lived everywhere but West and North, Eating pork and beans and noodles not by choice but more so force, Til one day I told myself I can't continue on the course” (62-66). This is also an example of how rhyme is used in the
To start off, this phrase has the most meaning because it sums up the entirety of this powerful song in just one short sentence. The main meaning of this song is centered on the fact that every single person goes through life making many mistakes and regretting past decisions. Of course, it is okay to be occasionally frustrated with these mishaps, but at the same time, one cannot let these negative ordeals consume
The narration of the story is beautifully divided into parts: the first part is set in an unnamed town in Michigan and it depicts Milkman’s life from birth to his early thirties, within this section the author focuses on the emptiness of the protagonist’s life and his aimless visions caught between his father’s materialistic lifestyle and his aunt’s traditional values. This is the part infused with the most flashbacks to the characters’ past which enables the reader to truly understand each one individually. We learn that Milkman’s father and his aunt have run away after their father has been murdered and although they crossed paths eventually they don’t speak to each other because they have different views and standards and Macon feels embarrassed by such abnormally spiritual sisters and thinks that she threatens his social position. This part ends with Milkman’s attempt to leave his town in search for his concrete inheritance.
“Keep your Head up” by Andy Grammer is a song that promotes the ability to omit small things that make one’s life miserable. The songs purpose is to promote happiness and alleviate stress. “The glow that the sun gives Right around the sunset/Helps me realize this is just a journey drop your worries you are going to turn out fine”(Grammer, 13-14) making the sun’s rays symbolic of a new beginning is evident to the euphoric mood. The second line where he mentions that life is a journey conveys a limited time and desire to accomplish our goals and practice our passion. Finally at the end of the song he talks about how his life started to change with the help of his friends.
He talks about how he goes out and tries to live life to the fullest. He goes out and tries to notice everything that is good about that day and doesn’t look back. I think that is a great way to live your life. If you go out and live your life with compassion and notice the good things life is going to be more enjoyable than worry about everything that is going wrong.

In The Life Song of a Child, the narrator wrote an optimistic life lesson at the end of the story that challenged the readers to,” Keep singing and find [their] way home.”(1). In this quote the narrator did a good job of expressing her optimistic side because she’s hopeful that everyone will find their song and their song will help throughout their whole life time. This quote really connects to my life because in my life I have a song. That song is running, which is the most important part in my life and it will always help me get through obstacles challenges in my
