Have people ever wondered why they laugh when there is something funny said? Why people laugh has always been a big mystery up until a few years ago. According to a PhD titled Robert Provine, laughter has always and will always be known to mankind. Humor has made a great effect on many people, and inside of it consists of love, and kindness.Everyone knows how to laugh, people do not have to learn how to laugh. Humor and laughter comes naturally to most humans. “Why we laugh is simple, the answer is humor” (nbcnews.com). Humor comes from the word humorous. “At first, the word humorous came from referring to the body’s language and moods, but then it transitioned to the words we speak that laughter is the source of” (Vocabulary.com). Humor means the quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech (Google Search) …show more content…
Webster goes on to the formal definition of humor, as saying that it is a way someone can feel emotionally. (“Humor”). Humor is just making another person happier with themselves or the situation they are in. The same way as negativity can bring someone down, humor has the opposite effect, it is positive and makes people feel better about themselves. So many comedians do bits making light of any kind of situation they will or already have encountered or experienced. Doing a comedy skit, or going to a comedy club, or just being around someone who is humorous is all part of humor and what is all of its components. Humor’s components are happiness, laughter, kindness, love, and laughter all mixed up into one
Laughing is resorted to in times where we need to laugh. It’s an escape from reality, its comfort, its fear. Laughing subdues any emotion that is too high strung in our system. It lets it vapor out in a melancholy form that helps us cope with problems that no one else can really understand and help us with. In One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest it allowed emotional tension escape from the patients and made nurse Ratched lose her ward.
Humour allows other's to understand a difficult situation without feeling the need to feel uncomfortable about it.
Humor helps a person to dissolve stressful emotions, it’s a creative way to mentally solve a problem without being depress about the circumstances. Humor encourages a person to realize that there is a problem and something needs to be done about the situation, than a person is not in serious or stressful mode. Sharing your problems with other people helps to ease the pain and with humor added into the problem, helps a person to talk about their feelings and the person who is listening can relax too, because there is somewhat of sense of humor in the problem that does not put the listener in a discomfort position. With this humor mechanism a person can actually realize they have problem and that they have to solve it, instead being depress about the
Steve Almond’s “Funny is the New Deep” talks of the role that comedy has in our current society, and most certainly, it plays a huge role here. Namely, through what Almond [Aristotle?] calls the “comic impulse”, we as a people can speak of topics that would otherwise make many of uncomfortable. Almond deems the comic impulse as the most surefire way to keep heavy situations from becoming too foreboding. The comic impulse itself stems from our ability and unconscious need to defend and thus contend with the feeling of tragedy. As such, instead of rather forcing out humor, he implies that humor is something that is not consciously forced out from an author, but instead is more of a subconscious entity, coming out on its own. Almond emphasizes
“Everyone has a sense of humor. If you don't laugh at jokes, you probably laugh at opinions.” Once said an American poet, essayist, and existentialist philosopher Criss Jami, Killosophy. I also believe that humor and laugh play a big role in our lives. However, there are two types of people’s personality; people who understand humor and more open minded, and those who just cannot get it, and that, in my opinion, just makes their live harder. The article, “That’s Not Funny” by Caitlin Flanagan, is talking about college students that are not allowed to joke because of comedians restrictiveness in what they are talking
Humor can come in many different forms. Many people are aware of the blatant humor of slapstick, but it takes a keener mind to notice the subtle detail in sarcasm or satire. In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift was able to create a piece of literature addressing the faults of the Irish culture while embedding in a humorous essay. Swift’s satire allows for the gravity of the Irish standings to be exploited under the disguise of a proposal for economic benefit.
Humor is more than just amusing entertainment to pass the time. Though jokes and witty banter can be shallow, humor can go deeper than surface level to convey messages to audiences who would otherwise be close-minded about certain ideas. Humor is a great tool to get audiences to change the way they think, feel, and act. In “Saying Goodbye to Yang,” Alexander Weinstein uses humor to criticize some of society’s faults such as the way it has become heavily reliant on technology, racially insensitive, and judgmental.
Laughter is part of all of us, It is the universal language of people. In every part of the world people know how to laugh. Laughing is something that is done universal not just in the United States, but also in every corner of the world. We are all capable of doing it. We are all born with the ability to laugh, but laughter does not essentially happen by its own it is caused by comedy. Comedy is not something that requires intelligence. All that is required is to be able
The definition of comedy has been contested for many years, as it is notoriously difficult to determine. Eric Weitz notes that “a general intention to elicit laughter or amusement remains the signature element of what we consider a comic text.” Laughter is notably the reaction most associated with comedy. We often laugh when we find something humorous. However, the definition of humour is just as problematic as that of comedy, as “no two people will always agree on what constitutes ‘successful’ humour.” Eric Weitz suggests that we “note the conditions generally present when someone does find something funny. This allows us to sketch a general image of what [he terms] the ‘humour transaction’.”

Like Bill Crosby said “Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, whatever your situation might be, you can survive it.” Humor can be taking a situation, event, or problem and adding little interesting details to make it hilarious. It can be composed of satire, offensive or gross humor. So, what is funny? Funny can have a variety of definitions for many people. People can think that acting foolish or falling down the stairs funny. What I really find funny is a comedian or a person making jokes about other person's race or copying their accent; in a good way. Everybody has something that makes them laugh; it can be as simple as farting in public.
The joy of laughter is all around us/everywhere nowadays. From the front page of reddit.com to the lecture of my college classes. Humor have it’s way into sneaking into our lives no matter where we head. But what is humor, and why do we laugh at the thing we laugh at. According to John Morreal laughter is a cause by the sudden change to happiness or greatness “Laughter result from a pleasant Pscyological shift Morreall (249)”. Morreall states that this theory applies to nearly all laughter. It does not matter what age nor situation somebody is in, this theory applies to it all. For example, he states that a baby laugh at a game of peekaboo because the baby feels the sudden change of somebody disappearing and reappearing. But the baby will only feel this joy of sudden shift by the presence reappearing. The baby will feel despair if the shift have gone another direction and the pleasant presence does not appear. I do agree with Morreall theory of laughter that laughter mostly result from a pleasant physiological shift.
Humor in a nutshell Humor can be defined in many ways. Humor can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you have a great sense of it. I actually have had a memory that had laugh, like when me and my best friend Gabe were having a simple conversation and we laugh all day. There are many ways you can define humor and sometimes people will not like it, but most of the time they do have a laugh and have fun. Here are some examples and how I think of humor.
If there is one way to bring a smile to someone’s face, it is laughter. Funny jokes, comical stunts, sarcasm- Every person is different when it comes to what makes them laugh. Some find dry humor comical. Others think sarcasm or joke-filled ranting are the best. ‘Comedy’ is such a broad term, broad enough to allow everyone to find something they find comical. In fact, ‘comedy’ includes a specific type of drama, one where the protagonist is joyful and happy endings are expected. Comedy is like a drug; it allows you to escape reality. When we say the word ‘comedy’ in the present, we are generally referring to a type of performance which provides humor. However, in its broadest sense, comedy has only one purpose: comedy makes people smile and
