In Shakespeare’s Othello, the main villain, Iago, manipulated almost every character he met, including the titular Othello, the unfortunate hero of the story. Despite coming off as somewhat crazy, Iago made others kill, slander, and hurt others and all in all, is a very manipulative person.
Iago has made people do unreasonable and crazy things, such as in the case of Brabantio, Desdemona’s father. Brabantio, who first appears in Act 1, Scene 1, was distraught to hear that his daughter, Desdemona, had eloped. He goes to the point of bringing Othello to trial, and accusing him of witchcraft, because of Iago’s control, along with Roderigo, another unfortunate victim of Iago’s wordplay. Throughout the play, Roderigo is controlled by Iago, and is forced to do some pretty bad things. One of these, is to kill Cassio, the man who took the position of Lieutenant, and, ends up being wounded by Cassio, after a failed surprise attack. Iago then stabbed Cassio from behind, and finished off Roderigo. Unfortunately for Iago, Cassio lived. Roderigo is controlled by Iago throughout the whole play, starting from the first scene and ending with his death, and really, he is a perfect example of Iago’s power and control over other people.


Finally, Othello was one of the worst cases of Iago’s manipulation. From start to end, he was manipulated, starting as a honest man who was sure of himself and brave. Iago, however, changed him. He became worried, and unsure, and ended up making many terrible mistakes. While he was changing, Othello was fooled by Iago, and begins to believe that Cassio is a drunkard who would fight, and is unfit for the job of lieutenant:
I know, Iago,
Thy honesty and love doth mince this matter,
Making it light to Cassio. Cassio, I love thee

Othello, when he kills Desdemona, believes in all of his heart that she had been unfaithful, and refuses to listen to reason, because of how much false evidence Iago placed, and uncertainty and the trust he had in Iago. He realized too late his mistake, and that Iago is a cruel manipulative bastard, and he had made an incorrect judgement, unfortunately. Othello murdered Desdemona, and after, took his own life, after being branded as a criminal and a murderer. Iago, however, makes it out with being stabbed, and lives on, for all anyone
