Samuel Morse was born on April 27, 1791 in America. His father was a Calvinist preacher. When Morse was young he went to Yale University to study philosophy and mathematics. In 1811 Samuel traveled to England to study painting. While he was there he became a skilled artist. One hobby Morse had was creating helpful inventions. He became so interested in his inventions that he put off painting, which was his life long carer, to work on them. One thing he wanted to accomplish was to be able to send messages over long distances at lighting speed.
