Have you ever watched a sci-fi movie and wondered if some of the subjects on futuristic transport occurring in space could be a possibility? For many years scientists have been discovering new phenomenons in space. In 1916, the first black hole was discovered by Karl Schwarzschild, which wasn't proven until the late 1950’s. A wormhole is a hypothetical connection that you can travel through to get from point A to point B almost instantaneously. Have you ever wondered what might lie on the other side of a black hole? Some scientists have been studying the “holes of space” and have found very surprising results: The black hole, the white hole, and the wormhole. In this paper we will explore wormholes and discuss how black holes and white holes relate.
According to Google.com, an Einstein-Rosen Bridge wormhole is a “hypothetical connection between widely separated regions of space-time.”. A traversable wormhole is a vortex that acts like a shortcut. The difference between an Einstein-Rosen Bridge and a traversable wormhole is that once you pass through a Einstein-Rosen Bridge wormhole, there is no going back, while a traversable wormhole is one that you can travel through freely, passing back and forth. “Wormholes are the solution to Einstein's general relativity field equation, but have been created by theory.”, says nasa.gov.

In the last hundred years we have made enormous progress in studying not our galaxy but ones billions of light-years away. Only a few hundred years ago our world seemed so big that there were areas of the world that had never been charted and people believed that the Earth was flat (and yes for some reason a few people still believe that today). If we continue to make progress at thus rate the universe will actually begin to seem smaller because of how much more we might know.
The origins of the super-massive black holes which concludes how they were formed and what caused them to form is an unsolved problem which is yet a mystery of astrophysics. ( Millis 2014)

A black hole is a dead star in outer space. It is where planets and stars disappear at. The gravity of a black hole is way too strong ( Aguilar 39). The black hole is a weird object in outer space and a black hole is formed when two giant stars or more collapse together and basically vacuum anything that comes near it ( Aguilar 39). It might be gases around the black hole. People call it a black hole because light can’t escape from it (Cool Cosmos). So the hole appears black and the volume of the black hole is zero (Cool Cosmos).
Black holes are points in space where there are extreme gravitational pulls that prevent anything, including light, from escaping. The reason for such a strong gravitational pull is due to vast amounts of matter being contained in a small amount of space. Stellar black holes form from stars with a mass greater than 20 solar masses and can be a result of gravitational collapse. Gravitational collapse is a result of the star’s internal pressure not being able to resist the stars own gravity. When the star is exhausted of its nuclear fuel such that it cannot maintain a high enough temperature it will begin to collapse under its own weight (Seidel 2011). As the star collapses it causes a supernova which blasts the outer layers of the star into space while the core completely collapses under its own weight. If the remnant core left behind exceeds 3 solar masses there are no known forces that can prevent the core from completely collapsing into a black hole (p. 568 Bennett et al. 2013)
Before I begin to speak about black holes, I will have to explain what the white glowing specks in the sky are. Without a star a black hole could not be formed. In the beginning of a star life a hydrogen is a major part of its development. Stars form from the condensation of clouds of gas that contain hydrogen. Then atoms of the cloud are pulled together by gravity. The energy produced from the cloud is so great when it first collides, that a nuclear reaction occurs. The gasses within the star starts to burn continuously. The hydrogen gas is usually the first type of gas consumed in a star and then other gas elements such as carbon, oxygen, and helium are consumed. This chain reaction of explosions fuels the star for millions or billions of years depending on the amount of gases there are.
In the novel The Man in the High Castle by Phillip K. Dick, we see Tagomi accidently enter an alternate timeline as he states, “Where am I? Out of my world, space, and time” (246). By the end of the book, Juliana finds out that the timeline they are living in right now is actually not the real one. She figures out that in reality, Germany and Japan lost the war. With these two scenes, the idea of the multiverse is introduced into the story. The multiverse is the hypothetical set of possible universes, “where different universes within the multiverse could have different laws of physics” (Phillips). This is a concept that has been of constant debate between scientists because some scientists argue that this subject should not be of scientific
The Setting in Through the Tunnel is crucial to the plot. Based on the description in the story, the setting is a white sandy beach in coastal France, with villas lining the coast. In the story, Jerry “looked down at a wild and rocky bay, and then to the overcrowded beach.” The setting affects the plot because if there was no tunnel or bay, Jerry would not be able to show his adventurous side. Also, the setting affects the plot because if he wasn’t on vacation then he wouldn’t have as much motivation to go through the tunnel.
There are also highly exotic ideas, which lie on the tantalizing fringes of modern theoretical physics. If the universe is a multidimensional place with human beings only able to perceive three dimensions, perhaps a way can be found to shortcut through the 'higher' dimensions. These so-called wormholes are currently having their mathematics calculated by the theorists but if they can be utilized for travel then perhaps the entire universe will become accessible to us. Traveling to different planets may take no more time than traveling to different countries does now!
Throughout the ages, outstanding physicists, to the movies, to some of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, have pondered the idea of time-travel. The thought of actually being able to travel to another time or universe has long since enthralled, enveloped, and overwhelmed some of the greatest minds in the history of physics. No one person can actually prove any of their theories, but a few actually make sense. Meaning that they do not violate the laws of physics. One of the main theories suggested, are wormholes. Wormholes are considered to connect two regions of flat space-time, two universes, or two parts of the same universe. There is a lot of theoretical evidence that wormholes exist, with an equal amount of evidence that they do not exist. However, no matter what one’s belief is, the existence of wormholes still makes you wonder…
