Ethics
The reason that most people go into construction is because it is a job skill that can be used world wide, and there are many different ways to make a decent living. Due to the current economic situation, the construction business has been sluggish. Contractors have been earning a smaller amount than they used to and this causes, most contractors and subs to cut corners and the customer or owner pays the ultimate price of lousy job. Most of these activities are unethical and dangerous.
Ethics is described as the duty as a person to do the righteous actions and have respectable morals. If someone is ethical then he or she will be able to associate between what is right and wrong, and carry out ethical acts in all situations. The three major factors that are always associated with ethics are Loyalty, Honesty and Responsibly. A loyal person or employees are classified, as by being trustworthy to their occupation. An example of someone who is not loyal is going to the competition and leaking important facts about your current company is viewed as being very unethical. Also disloyal employees could speak poorly about the boss and deteriorate the morale of the work place. An example of a person who is considered honest would be one who tells the truth and doesn’t shy away from it. A devoted mason worker would under any circumstances pour extra chemicals into the concrete batch so that it can pass a slump and air test. An honorable worker would not take construction supplies or extra left over materials for personal use, or gain is a person who makes wise decisions. If construction managers were to perform tasks and happen to make an error, it is very important he take full responsibility for his mistakes and tries to fix it,...

...ack of workers. It also established that union shops are legal and is defined that an employee as a 30 day grace period in which he as to join the union. If by the end of the 30 days he decides not to join the union, the union can request that the employee be released.
Even till now unions have been overall successful; they have been capable of the task to establish rights and equality to all workers. They gave workers better working conditions, minimum wage, maximum hours, and benefits, such as overtime and fringe benefits. This made being a labor worker an actually decent job to peruse and have as a career. It helped also make labor workers an actually important part of society and of construction that is key to beginning and finishing a project. Even though some people may have mix feelings towards union it has impacted labor rights in a fruitful way.
Unions are voluntary associations joined by workers. The Combination Act of 1800, which hindered the growth of unions, states that every workman's goal, who are entering into any combination should not be obtaining an advance of wages, or to lessen or alter the hours, or influencing any other to quit his work. Any workman who did so shall be committed to jail (Doc 1). Although the Combination Act of 1800 prevented the growth of unions, Ralph Chaplin believes that a worker should join the union. He states that there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun, but the unions, which makes it strong (Doc 2). Since there's so many workers working in bad conditions, the labor laws came to action.
Without the aid of organized labor, workers would not have been able to persuade others to help them in their fight for better working conditions. Labor unions also influenced people within society to recognize the problems that workers were facing during the late 19th century. All in all, the feelings that many once had about strikes were what changed the most; this allowed for ideas that would later cause corporations to rethink their business methods.
Unions have always been a pain in employers’ sides. From today to the 1910s, workers have tried to unionize for better conditions in their jobs. Today, people try to opt out of being in unions, avoiding the union’s dues but still reaping the rewards. That’s a long way away from what people experienced in the 1910s. During that time period, people were struggling to even be apart of a union.
Unions have an extensive history of standing up for workers. They have advocated rights of steelworkers, coal miners, clothing factory employees, teachers, health care workers, and many others. The labor movement is based on the idea that organized workers as a group have more power than individuals would have on their own. The key purpose of any union is to negotiate contracts, making sure workers are respected and fairly compensated for their work. “In theory” unions are democratic organizations, resulting in varying inner authority. Workers look for security within a job a...
Factories were known for their ill treatment of their employees, long hours and dirty and unsafe conditions. In 1866, unions started to form to improve working conditions for the workers. A fundamental problem faced by democratic societies is as long as people live their lives individually and go their separate ways and be selfish individuals, they are unlikely to meet collectively to resolve issues. There needs to be meaningful unity among people to alleviate this problem to get people obliged to one another, so there is a willingness to sacrifice for shared goals. Bonding of its citizens creates a democracy. Unions seemed to offer the middle class a chance to become a crucial part of fostering institutions of constitutional democracy. The unions have went through several transitions, but have always worked for the working force. I will discuss the history of the various unions, their wins and losses, and the struggle of the employee to achieve democracy in the workplace.
In 1636, the first considered labor union disturbance was recorded. The Main fishermen employed by Robert Trelawney at Richmond island, were reported to have fallen “into a mutiny” when their wages were withheld. It was a small group of men and their protest was hardly remember, but it showed how cooperating together would lead to a better result than working by yourself, it also taught other people how to stand up for what they believe in. ”Usually the first step for any union is to get workers to join in the organization. After a union has become established in a plant or industry, its major functions are arranging labor contracts and handling job disputes” (Mills 4). The hardest part of joining a labor union is knowing there is a possibility of being fired or hated for retaliation against your employer. Most men were afraid to get caught associating with a union because they could be faced with jail time, beaten , or fired if caught. Labor unions tried to keep t...

Labor Unions have had an effect of American history as well as world-wide history from the time they became popular. Following WWII Americans were predominantly pro-labor, however, as time went on union’s credibility fell short of perfect. Union strikes proved to be bothersome to both the general public and company. Unions were also suppressing to employees through fraud and lack of worker rights (in earlier years, before Acts were passed). Although Union labor had its shortcomings, this type of labor is noted to be the most productive and economically beneficial. With both sides shown, I feel Unions will again thrive in the future with a few key adjustments made.
The disadvantages of union membership are viewed from the employee and employer perspective. Through the employee lens, the disadvantages manifest in the form of fees, loss of autonomy, and less collaborative work environment. As part of the union, you surrender many of your individual rights in exchange for the organized results that can potentially manifest through the collective bargaining process. Therefore, there isn’t any assurance that your individual concern will even be addressed.
Ethical behaviour is what all career people should aim to have. It involves personal choices that can make or break a person in the workplace or business. The major importance of having good conduct is to maintain a high level of respect not just for people but for the proffession. Most people who begin their working career have aspirations of excelling at their jobs and reaching the pinnacle of their profession while maintaining a sense of values; however employees often become blind with ambition and put aside their sense of ethics in order to obtain financial security and recognition for their efforts. There are many things that one can gain from having good behavioural ethics in the workplace. The Collective voice/ institutional face: on the other hand is quite different. Under this, unions have positive effects on productivity, by reducing quit rates, inducing managers to alter methods of production and adopt more efficient policies and thus improving morale among workers.
Ethics in the workplace is a very important thing to have. Without a sense of ethicality in the workplace there are many things that could go wrong. You could even end up losing a job because of a lack of ethics, or other consequences could be felt due to a lack of caring or morality. The workplace is a place that you should show respect and dignity, and a deeper sense of ethics is very important in order to uphold these senses of morality. Workplace ethics, which include such things as behavior, integrity, commitment, teamwork, and other things, are important, if not required, in most workplaces and can help to improve performance and morale for workers and employers.
