What is ethics? Ethics is a system of moral principles that the individual uses to determine a course of action in a certain situation. In construction, like every other filed of work, there is a Code of Ethics that outlines the principles that all construction workers must follow. How does this Code of Ethics affect the design, estimating, and construction of MEP systems? When designing any form of construction project, you will be faced with various details to consider in your design. Aspects like location, ground composition, climate, etc. that can all affect the quality and quantity of the products you’d use in your project. Therefore there are various ways for architects to make ethically wrong decisions. For instance, say a construction …show more content…
I see ethical dilemmas regarding mechanical, electrical, and plumbing situations on a daily basis. The first ethical dilemma I have heard in construction was one where a project manager was allowing some of his workers to take junk scrap metal off of the job for them to sell. At first you would think that this was wrong and that he shouldn’t have been allowing them to do that and that they should all get in trouble. However, in this particular situation it is not unethical because the company doing the work had no plans of using the scrap metal and they were just going to dispose of it and waste it. So what seems unethical here was actually ethical if you knew all the circumstances surrounding the situation. Ethics plays a role in every aspect of life. We need it to keep us in line and ensure that we do the right thing for ourselves and others. If we didn’t have a Code of Ethics in construction, none of the homes, buildings, roads, or businesses would be able to function properly because they would be getting ripped off in more ways than one by the people they paid to construct their home. You have to have a solid foundation to build on, and that is why the construction industry has a Code of Ethics that every employee should follow. Not for the sake of the client, but for the sake of the

To clarify, the Engineering Code of Ethics is the set of rules established by the National Society of Professional Engineers that all engineers are expected to adhere to. In essence, the fundamental tenets of this code are that all engineers are expected to prioritize public safety, as well as be honest with their clients and the general public while only doing work that they are qualified to do. (“Code of Ethics,” n.d.). The reason this code is crucial in this case is because it offers guiding principles for the men and women who are in charge of so many of the various structures and buildings that are used by everyone in society. If the engineering population were to fail to adhere to this code, many people’s lives would be put in jeopardy; buildings might crumble, planes may crash, and bridges could collapse. This means that this code serves to keep engineers in check so that the world maintains stability, therefore its importance cannot be emphasized enough. Furthermore, since this code is nationally recognized, if a company’s engineers were to violate any aspect of it, it would be seen nation-wide as a misuse of power for the sake
Ethics or rather morals entail mechanisms that defend, systematize as well as recommend conceptions of right or wrong. Many organizations develop ethical codes to ensure employees and employers understand the difference in doing good or bad. In that respect, ethics are an essential aspect of successfully running of any organization or government. Ethics ensure employee’s productivity levels are up to the required standards. It also assists them to know their rights and responsibilities. Additionally, employers, as well as any persons in management, are guided by them to ensure they provide transparent leadership. Ethics also defines how customers should be handled. Ethical codes govern the relationship between customers and an

Most common ethical issues an engineer faces are that providing a quality product at a reasonable cost and safety of the public. At time, clients want more than they are willing to pay for, in this case engineer must decide whether to shorten the design to save money and time or not to take the job they offered. The ethical engineer modules or designs are not only for the safety and low manufacture cost, but also for reduce manufacture cost for the entire design. The professional engineer’s duty is to find the correct manufacture cost and whether the product will be safe to use. Often times, an engineer may experience a situations in which they can’t get the client or manager satisfied of the product. In order to maintain an ethical demeanor in such cases, an engineer may have to refuse to approve the project design.
Ethics is the moral behavior that guides our actions; it motivates us in our personal behavior and is relevant in a business setting as well. Many organizations have set forth a set of guidelines known as a “Code of Ethics”. The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, being one of these organizations, has set forth their code as a requirement for students and engineer members to adhere to. Heading towards a career in electrical engineering I choose this organization to elaborate on for my ethics project.
Ultimately, the entire business can be brought down by one poor ethical choice. Good employees see others not following ethical guidelines and it causes them to lose faith in their coworkers. Bad employees see the same thing, then believe they can get away with it. Both scenarios can cause horrible things to happen very quickly. It is even worse when employees see management taking the wrong path.
Ethics are moral principles or values that govern the conduct of an individual or a group. It is not a burden to bear, but a prudent and effective guide which furthers life and success. Ethics are important not only in business but in academics and society as well because it is an essential part of the foundation on which a civilized society is built.
The McLean paper, “Integrating Ethics and Design,” presents many statements about the purpose and application of having engineering students take an ethics course. The primary assertion with which I disagree is that an ethics course is necessary to fill in the gaps left by the technical nature of the field, as it assumes that we have no other moral grounding or experience, however, I do agree that engineering students are not prepared for the type of thinking required to understand an ethics course in the form it is presented.
In this essay I shall consider whether the primary goal of a course on engineering should be to teach students the standards of professional conduct as set out by major engineering codes of ethics, or if they should think autonomously about moral issues.
[1] Ethics is defined as “the code of moral principles and values that governs the behaviour of a person or a group with respect to what is right or wrong” (Samson and Daft, 2005, p.158)
Ethics in the workplace is a very important thing to have. Without a sense of ethicality in the workplace there are many things that could go wrong. You could even end up losing a job because of a lack of ethics, or other consequences could be felt due to a lack of caring or morality. The workplace is a place that you should show respect and dignity, and a deeper sense of ethics is very important in order to uphold these senses of morality. Workplace ethics, which include such things as behavior, integrity, commitment, teamwork, and other things, are important, if not required, in most workplaces and can help to improve performance and morale for workers and employers.
Claim: Many organizations do not value the importance of ethics in their execution of duties. These organizations always find themselves struggling to operate in a much profitable manner. In most cases, organizations that do not value ethics argue that ethics are not important for success. Thus, they pay more attention on chasing profits instead of being ethical. In other words, these organizations do not believe that success is based on ethics. However, the successes of every business project must be based on ethics. Therefore, project managers should take the full responsibility of ethics in order to establish a smooth course on which the project will take.

Engineering ethics has always existed as a set of rules or a system that governs the behavior of an engineer. Among its main provisions, we can attribute such as the need to faithfully perform engineering work that would bring welfare and do not cause harm to people; be accountable for engineering professional activities; a good relationship ( customs and rules governing relations ) with other engineer, etc.
