The Truth About The Merchant In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales

89 Words1 Page

While all of the other characters are uncovered by Chaucer, the merchant appears to be the only one he doesn’t know everything about. Chaucer doesn’t even know the merchant’s name. He says “To tell the truth I do not know his name.” If Chaucer doesn’t know everything about the merchant, the other characters in the book will have trouble learning the truth about him. The merchant, the slyest and sneaky character in The Canterbury Tales, would most likely be able to avoid the other pilgrims and keep to himself.
