In the book The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle a girl named Charlotte has to go on ship to meet her parents in England. Charlotte is an adventurous girl, who is living in the 1830s. She is 13 years of age. Soon before she is about to board the ship the two families Charlotte was supposed to ride with mysteriously canceled their trip. When she is in the time of boarding the ship she gets many warnings to not go on the boat but just ignores them. The ship she rides on is called The Seahawk. When Charlotte gets on the boat she is showed to were her cabin is. The cabin she says in is very gross and terribly small. A few days later she meets a man named Zachariah. He gave Charlotte a dirk one of the first days she got on the ship. When Charlotte got bored she would wander around the ship. She met the crew along the ship. The names of the sailors were Dillingham,Grimes,Morgan,Barlow,Foley,Ewing,Fish, and Johnson. They were all pretty nice to her. A few days past and she is doing well on the ship. One day she was asked to go to the captain's office. When Charlotte first met him she saw how nice and kind he was to her. The captain's name was Captain Jaggery.During their meeting he gave her tea and they just talked. Charlotte noticed how nice and big his room was, she has never been in there before. She thought he was quite odd though, he stared at her for a while at one point. A few weeks later she noticed a conflict between the captain and his crew. Charlotte warned them they will get tired but he pretends he didn’t hear that. Charlotte heard guns and red-robins weren’t aloud on the ship but going through the captain's stuff to get a needle for sewing, she sees both of those forbidden items. She acts like she didn’t just see them. Charlotte realized there was a stowaway and rushes to tell the captain. When Charlotte told the captain he told Mr.Hollybrass ( his first mate) to get the crew to the deck. Captain Jaggery then gets the key to the gun safe and goes on deck. He forces Charlotte to follow him. When he looks out to the crew see sees and extra member with one arm, the stowaway ( Mr.Cranick ). Mr.Cranick was the man that took off his arm on the last ship. Cranick pulls out the red-robin and declares the captain to unfit from being captain. Captain Jaggery then shoots Cranick in the chest. The captain then tells everyone to drop their weapons, even the red-robin. He then tells Zechariah to throw the body overboard. Zachariah says no to the captain. Charlotte is chosen to choose someone to be punished by the captain, she shakes her head. Captain Jaggery then declares Zechariah will be the one punished. Then the captain pulls out a whip and starts using it on Zechariah’s back. Charlotte can not watch him getting hurt and grabs the whip. She whips the captain's face then Jaggery grabs the whip and keeps beating Zechariah as much as he
Captain Jaggery is like a shark and the other people on the boat are the minnows. In the book The True Confessions Of Charlotte Doyle we learn a lot about the Captin, Captin Jagory. Captain Jaggery is the captain of the sea hawk. He loves being mean to the sailors but mostly Charlotte. At the beginning of the book, the captain was very nice to charlotte because he thought she would spy for him and she did spy for him, in part one. No one on the sea houk really liked the captain. Zachariah even called him, “the worst captain.”
When Charlotte is on the ship she finds the crew lead by Cranick , attempting to kill captain Jaggery, but failed so captain shot Cranick. On page 85 it said, “ It was that exact moment that captain Jaggery fired his musket.” Cranick use to be part of captains crew, but he made captain mad so captain beat him so much that Cranick’s arm came off and he left the crew. Cranick latter came back on the ship as a stowaway when Charlotte came aboard the seahawk. Because the crew failed at killing captain, captain chose someone to take the punishment.

After the hurricane passes Mr. Hollybrass is found dead with a knife in his back. This knife is the dirk that Zachariah gave Charlotte when she arrived on the ship. Charlotte is accused of murdering Mr. Hollybrass by the Captain Jaggery. The crew easily believe this since many of them saw her with the dirk at the beginning of their voyage. After being thrown in the hold Charlotte discovers that Zachariah is alive and has been hiding there. Charlotte suspects that he murdered Mr. Hollybrass as revenge. After being taken to trial, the crew finds Charlotte guilty and she is to be hung within twenty-four hours. Charlotte and Zachariah derive a plan to take over the ship after convincing the crew that they are innocent. This plan is ruined as one of the crew members reveals to Captain Jaggery their plan. While in the captain's quarters, Jaggery admits to Mr. Hollybrasses murder. Charlotte miraculously escapes from the captain as he is knocked overboard into the ocean never to be seen again. Finally, Charlotte arrives in Rhode Island in August 17, 1832, two months after departing from England. Charlotte meets her family again, and feels that she has changed during the journey. Captain Jaggery asked Charlotte to be a spy and tell her anything that the crew does that is wrong.
