The True Auteur of Filmography Martin Scorsese has been a well-known artist in filmography for many decades. While, many people may think of Scorsese’s film to be packed with violent action of Italian-American mobsters in the mafia who run around shooting everyone to gain greater power, there is much more to his films that have been there all along. Films like The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver fit perfectly with all of his other films when viewers see the true underlying meaning in the films. In The King of Comedy, Robert De Niro plays Rupert Pupkin, an aspiring comic and fame seeker in New York City who will stop at nothing to be recognized as a comedic celebrity. Both Travis Bickle and Rupert Pupkin are equally different from the other, yet they mutually scouted the city of New York in the hopes of making their mark on the world around them and to rise themselves up to greatness through their actions. The characters live out their lives as a daydream and at times the lines between fantasy and reality are not exactly what the characters pictured in their head. Both are born with frustration and alienation with the world at large. Travis Bickle dreams his violent hallucinations with good intentions. His distress is produced from what he sees around him and his wish for a better world. As for Rupert Pupkin, his dreams are tied up with his own dreams of becoming a celebrity and receiving a taste of stardom. His has a solid belief in his comedic talent, however his talents are as misplaced as his terrible jokes. When the obvious reality comes apparent to Rupert, he responds by taking desperate measures to fulfil what he believes to be his destiny as being crowned the new King of Comedy by kidnapping Jerry
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.
In the film industry, there are directors who merely take someone else’s vision and express it in their own way on film, then there are those who take their own visions and use any means necessary to express their visions on film. The latter of these two types of directors are called auteurs. Not only do auteurs write the scripts from elements that they know and love in life, but they direct, produce, and sometimes act in their films as well. Three prime examples of these auteurs are: Kevin Smith, Spike Lee and Alfred Hitchcock.
Before the civil rights movement could begin, a few courageous individuals had to guide the way. Dr. Vernon Johns was one of those individuals. Dr. Vernon Johns was a pastor and civil rights activist in the 1920s. Johns became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama in the late 1940s. Aside from its acting, the other major influence which Mean Streets had upon American film-makers was through it's use of a rock n' roll soundtrack (almost perfectly integrated with the images), and in its depiction of a new kind of screen violence. Unexpected, volatile, explosive and wholly senseless, yet, for all that, undeniably cinematic violence. The way in which Scorsese blends these two - the rock and roll and the violence - shows that he understood instinctively, better than anyone else until then, that cinema (or at least this kind of cinema, the kinetic, visceral kind) and rock n' roll are both expressions of revolutionary instincts, and that they are as inherently destructive as they are creative. This simple device - brutal outbreaks of violence combined with an upbeat soundtrack - has been taken up by both the mainstream cinema at large and by many individual `auteurs', all of whom are in Scorsese's debt - Stone and Tarantino coming at once to mind.

The character of Travis Bickle roams the nights in his taxi cab, and witnesses all of this “open sewer”, loathing the people who live within it’s realm. Travis is a complex character in his hate for the world in which he works. The streets on which he works are the same streets that he makes his living, and pays his rent, buys his booze, and eventually buys his guns. He is a victim of the world that he hates, because it is the only world he knows. This is viewed best in the scene where Travis takes Betsy to the “movies”.

The Associate is an entertaining movie that brings forth gender disparities in the workplace. Whoopi Goldberg, Laurel Ayers, portrays a financial analyst who has been stuck in a position that does not give her true credit for all of her hard work and talents. The Associate exemplifies the sexism that is occurring in the workplace through satiric wit and a strong story line.
He believes that he is well-liked and respected by everyone, which is not true. Willy's pride leads to his downfall, as he cannot accept that he is not successful and that his dream is unattainable. Finally, the illusion of Willy's life that resulted from him dreaming the wrong dream ends up in his tragic suicide and the destruction of his family. Willy's dream creates an illusion of a perfect life, which is not true.
An overinflated ego can rapidly cause a person’s success to perish. Willy’s tragic flaw of pride feeds his egotistical nature which causes an immense amount of distress in his family. Due to the desire to fill his ego, Willy finds a mistress who has “picked him” (38). By having an affair with a woman who has chosen him, Willy is able to fuel his overinflated ego. The need to constantly feed his ego is caused by the tragic flaw of pride which hurts his son Biff’s future. Biff is heartbroken due to the fact that his idol and father commits such adultery. He runs off “weeping fully” (121) when he discovers the scarring truth of whom he once thought to be great. Due to Willy’s egotistical nature and the need to feed it with a mistress, his downfall begins in the eyes of Biff. Not only does Willy lose Biff’s respect which is proven when Biff calls him a “phony little fake” (121), but Willy is also too prideful to amend his relationship.
