It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie and she sounds upset .” As I came down stairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.
Thirty minutes later, however, Jackie’s Ford Taurus swung into our driveway, and Jackie was leaning on the horn before the car came to a stop. Grabbing my coat from the couch, I walked out my front door with enthusiasm of a man going to stand before a firing squad. When I got to Jackie‘s car I opened the door and said, “What’s wrong Jackie”.
“You have to come with me to my house Joe I have some important information to tell you.

He leaves his home town in his used three-thousand dollar, white, Ford Escort. He bought the car from the owner of a pizza shop down the street strictly for the long trip. Duff didn’t care much about cars, as longs as they get him from place to place. Duff pulls onto the highway and drives for about fifteen minutes before something goes terribly wrong. A weird noise came from the front of the car and then a loud bang. The car rolled to a stop near a small exit. Duff looked at the engine, but had no hope of knowing what happened. So Duff called a tow-truck which took the car five miles west to a garage in a small hick town. The mechanics diagnosed that he had thrown an engine rod. This usually happens if the engine doesn’t get oiled enough. Duff had no idea of the last oil change since he had only had the car for two weeks.

The 1980’s brought about a change to movies after Americas’ loss in the Vietnam War. In the light of this, America felt that their masculinity was in question. In result, Hollywood responded to these feelings by making movies that had strong male characters, known as “hard bodies” (Sklar 346). Furthermore, according to Movie Made America, the characteristics of a hard body are “heroic, aggressive, and determined” (Sklar 346). One such movie that exhibits this is the Terminator, directed by James Cameron and released in 1984. The movie is about Sarah Conner, a teenager, who is being hunted by the Terminator, a robot sent from the future to kill her. In the first and the last scene featuring the Terminator, two hard body characteristics, aggression

They screamed as the car careened and then skidded to a stop somewhere in the nearby farmer’s field, parts of the vehicle’s now twisted metal frame and blown out tires working as an impromptu brake to halt the vehicle.

Logan was on his way home from an evening at the local bar. He and some friends had gone out to have a couple beers. As he sped down the road, he blinked vigorously to try to clear his vision. Although it was a perfectly clear summer night, Logan’s vision was blurred from the alcohol. “As long as I keep this car on my side of the road, I’ll be fine,” he thought to himself. He was doing a decent job of obtaining control over the vehicle, or so he thought. Only three miles from his country home, he became unaware of his position on the road as it began to curve. As he continued around the familiar curve in the road, a truck came out of nowhere at hit Logan’s small Toyota Camry head on. The big F-350 pickup truck was no comparison to the little
