The Templar Knights, one of the most well-known orders of all times. Created to protect the Holy Land, the Templars “the army of God” would serve and die under God. They were fierce warriors who proved themself time and time again. They have truly set forth some of the most famous conspiracy theories in history. The Knights Templars would truly live up to be one of the most honored and well-known orders in history. The Templar Knights where first formed in 1118 by a French knight named Hugues de Payens. Hugues de Payens was born somewhere around 1070 in the land of Payens. Little is actually known of Hugues de Payens youth but still plays a critical role in the history of the Templar Knights. In 1085 he dubbed a knight due to being mentioned as Lord of Montigny. It is unknown to say that he was involved in the First Crusade but many historians believe that he was indeed involved in it (Templarhistory.com » Blog Archive » Hugues de Payens – The First Grand Master). Around the age of forty eight, Hugues de Payens was believed to have been the first member and Grand master of the Templar Knights. His goals for the order were to protect pilgrimage to the holy land and stop the attackers. Payens also wanted the knights to take an oath of poverty and not get overwhelmed by riches. When the order was originally formed they were known as the Poor Knights of the Temple of King Solomon. It wasn’t until 1129 when the knight received the formal endorsements from the Catholic Church that they became the Templar Knights.
