Apostolic Genius (Hirsch) – Jesus is Lord In the word of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved (Mark 16:15-16). The requirement is just as to go into the world and do what everyone else does in this rat race of life, but we are to engage the world through culture and radically change it. We do this not with weapons of mass destruction or by forcefully converting others to our will, but we evangelize the lost through the same methodology the Christ himself utilized the principles of love and charity. is a ministry established in the Dallas, Ga. approximately 15 minutes from my home. I found the ministry through my own accord as I needed assistance at one time in my life. It can be very difficult raising 8 kids. It seems that the Lord, at times, is not overly concerned with doling out large sums of money to get people the assistance they might need. It also seems that often God will direct people to organizations that have resources that can be utilized. Perhaps in my own ministry down the road, I can offer some of the same type of services that I received myself. The pastor was a gifted speaker. His sermons seemed to be well constructed and his teaching was scriptural based. He provided a good word every time I visited and the Holy Spirit appeared to be in the church.
As humans grow and mature, they obtain knowledge of the world around them as they go through self-discovery and learn from past events. In the story, “The House on Mango Street,” by Sandra Cisneros, Esperanza undergoes a series of transformations from someone who was clueless about the world, to someone who is experienced. Cisneros uses transformation to show how Esperanza changed from a clueless inexperienced girl, to an experienced adult. As one grows older, they go through self-discovery and experiences that help them gain knowledge of reality.
Michelle Alexander’s book, The New Jim Crow, as well as Eugene Jarecki’s documentary, The House I Live In, both discuss the controversial issues surrounding the War on Drugs, mass incarceration, and drug laws. Ultimately, both Alexander and Jarecki concede that the court systems have systematically hindered growth and advancement in black communities by targeting young African Americans, primarily male, that have become entangled in drugs due to their socioeconomic status. There is a disturbing cycle seen in black underprivileged neighborhoods of poverty leading to drug use and distribution to make money that inevitably ends with the person in question landing in prison before likely repeating these actions upon their release. Both Jarecki and Alexander present their case, asserting that the effects of the War on Drugs acted as a catalyst for the asymmetric drug laws and
Borders detach us from the outside world; it constricts us with its walls and warps us into bystanders to the events occurring around us. Borders are a central theme in The House on Mango Street as we witness different characters trying to cope with the borders that enclose their daily lives, some attempt to cross it while others are held back by it. A common border which manifests in the stories throughout The House on Mango Street and Woman Hollering Creek is the boundary between the two opposing genders: male and female. This border between genders is created because of the expectations and stereotypes that are placed upon them, further contrasting the inherent differences between them and erecting a border that causes friction between the two groups. This border, stemmed from the differences between the two genders, manifests in different forms and are broken by different characters in the stories of The House on Mango Street as well as Woman Hollering Creek.
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros puts in perspective what it is like to grow up in a Latino neighborhood. Esperanza Cordero, the protagonist, is a young Chicana that lives in a Latino neighborhood in the city of Chicago. Esperanza comes from a big family that is constantly on the move from house to house until they get to the house on Mango Street. The neighborhood that Esperanza and her family find themselves in is one where the opportunities are low. In The House on Mango Street, the setting impacts Esperanza’s views on roles of women, violence, and the economy in the Hispanic culture.
When we see little kids running around and playing or sound asleep, most of us think of them as angels sent from heaven. We, as parents and future parents, love to see our children grow to become handsome sons and beautiful daughters. We do everything in our hands to keep them in the right tracks to become respectful human beings. We would want to be with them every second of their lives, but at some point we have to let them go and set them free. At one point in life, everyone hold secrets, including our own children.
In the novel, The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros describes the problems that Latino women face in a society that treats them as second class citizens. A society that is dominated by men, and a society that values women for what they look like, and not for what is on inside. In her Novel Cisneros wants us to envision the obstacles that Latino women must face everyday in order to be treated equally.

Charlie Chaplin created amazing films with his career as a director, screenwriter, actor, producer and musician. City Lights is a story of the tramp who falls in love. He is blown away by the unexpected love affair with the flower girl. He does everything in his power to help her and along the way befriends the millionaire. The story shows the contrasts between the two very different worlds of the rich and the poor. The tramp befriends the damsel in distress millionaire and sparks a friendship where the tramp then sees the lives of both worlds. The mise en scene is a way that shows how different each scene is by the way each character lives their life. Not only in the contrast between the rich and the poor, but also a contrast to happiness verses the unhappy. The mise en scene shows symbols of props that represent how the characters are feeling and what we are suppose to be feeling as we watch what is going on onscreen. Mise en scene is used to tell the story and there are many aspects that come together. The composition, props,
The Lighthouse Ministry has a North Central Ohio base and it was started in the 1980s as a ministry that took the church into Cleveland, Ohio ghettos when no one else would dare enter these neighborhoods. When things got difficult Lighthouse stayed there, even times when shots were actually fired around the workers and pastors. Growing up with the office of this ministry in the church that my grandfather pastored was a privilege. The main portion of the Lighthouse Ministry is Heaven Train. “Lighthouse Ministry is on a mission to help the youth of Cleveland, one neighborhood at a time” (About, 2018). The founder battled for years with the Nazarene Church to recognize the Heaven Train as a church because it did not have a building. A description of what volunteers do with Heaven Train is “the morning team will follow the bus to three of the project sites where volunteers entertain and love the 700+ children as they wait to board the bus, hear a bible teaching, and receive a meal” (Heaven Train, 2018).
Biblical witness centers on the Spirits activity of “binding believers to Christ, incorporation them into the church as the body of Christ and equipping the church for mission.” Despite the best effort of the Church to be the hands and feet of Christ it is reassuring to know that the Spirit is still present and working in the hearts of people outside of the church’s work. Without the work of the Spirit in the hearts of believers and throughout the word, humanity would not know the love of God. The Holy Spirit gives liberates and brings new life it unites, encourages and brings hope to a world pledged by darkness.
Now Jesus being the light of the world appears multiple times in John’s Gospel. John 1:4 “In him was Life, and the life was the light of man.”; John 8:12 “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”; John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Just as Bell shows that she spreads light throughout the dark castle.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew records Jesus’ last words to His disciples these verses have become known as “The Great Commission.”Since, the giving of the Great Commission followers of Christ has left their own culture in order to engage another with the saving message of the Gospel. Numerous books, articles and blogs have been written on the subject of World Evangelization or Missions. One such book on missions is called, “The Changing Face of World Missions: Engaging Contemporary Issues and Trends” this book was written by Michael Pocock, Gailyn Van Rheenen, and Douglas McConnell. All three men are experts in the field of missions; the writers have served overseas and are now currently engaged in equipping the next generation through teaching at Dallas and Fuller Theological Seminary. The authors bring a wealth of personal and academic excellence to their particular chapters as well as a passion to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The balance between academia and real world application make “The Changing Face of World Missions”, an informative and exciting read.
To some people it has happened, you see something standing in your dark room and when you turn on the lights, the figure is gone. Lights Out does the job of showing the audience the fear of the monster that looks at you or is with you in the darkness. The monster in this film would make the audience think back to their childhood and remember the fear of being in the dark alone because they would feel someone looking at them. This film gives the rule for the monster, you will be safe when you’re in the light, but be very careful when the lights go out and it gets dark.
“A Clean Well- Lighted Place” is truly a symbolic work of genius by Ernest Hemingway. The Author portrays the barbaric cruelty of isolation by symbolizing the old deaf man, a waiter and their desire to somehow pass the night. The story is an essential example of Ernest Hemingway’s Iceberg theory type symbolism.
