Many statements that are considered to be common sense may be proven false. Just because something is widely known does not make it true 100% of the time, for example, many people believe that those who go to school are considered to be smart. However, that is not always the case. Those who cannot afford to be in school can do their research at home and learn as much as someone who attends school. Although many people tend to believe in what is considered to be common sense, there is a way to debunk what is the actual truth and what is not. A method known as the Socratic Method is a process of questioning and answering to be able to find the truth.
The definition of the Socratic Method is the method of inquiry and instruction employed by Socrates, especially as represented in the dialogues of Plato and consisting of a series of questioning the object of which is to elicit a clear and consistent expression of something supposed to be implicitly known by all rational beings. A good step from the method that summarizes it would be, step 5, “If one subsequently finds exceptions to the improved statements, the process should be repeated. Some statements could be questioned more than once in order to confirm it to be correct. Such a method is the Socratic Method which was created by Socrates to conclude if a statement can be proven to be false by using the question/answer dialogue. Such as determining if having more wealth makes a person’s life better than someone who is not as wealthy. The Socratic Method makes it possible for the statement to be debunked.
