Several survivors from a post-apocalyptic world unite, seeking refuge and stability. Deprived of electricity the survivors were susceptible to the newly established threats that surround them. The disaster has created a fall of civilization and the “post-electric” world was complex; subsequently, the classic Cape Fear episode from The Simpsons unified the few survivors and recounting the episode proved imperative for the establishment of a newly formed society. The play conveys the idea of how modern myths and legacies survive and change when shared through generations and also the need for human connection. In act one, the survivors were dressed in camping attire, which was torn and dirty; this created the image that the characters had not been in civilized society for some time and it symbolised the desperation they felt. The costumes showed that it was a dark place and was a representation of how long ago the disaster occurred. The characters were dressed in retro style clothing in the second act, which demonstrated that the original survivors had become more established and prosperous as a theatrical group. There were many outfit changes and alterations to costumes throughout, due to the different performances and commercials within the act. All the costumes were identical in the final act, the new generation was dressed in white cloaks and it appeared the characters were worshipping God. Greek inspired masks were intended to represented additional Simpson characters, this shaped the idea that The Simpsons had now transformed into Gods and the new generation of survivors were worshipping them. Due to the nature of the television series, it is assumed a majority of viewers would already have a preconceived idea of The Simpson characters individual personality traits and behaviorism. The play followed the episode closely and one purpose for the retelling in act one was so that the audience was able to recall and comprehend the significant aspects within the play. Overall, the acting was impeccable and the performers’ singing ability emphasised the emotions expressed by The Simpsons characters. The production was an ensemble of six characters that turned the Cape Fear episode into a tragic-comedy and explored the deeper meaning within the visually disturbing production. There are many hidden messages within the production and the main idea within the text is that in order to survive it is imperative to have a strong support network and that people must work together in order to overcome unpredictable situations that may
