For my short story movie poster I chose “The Silver Noose” by Amy Tieu. “The Silver Noose” is about a boy named Gevan Gene who lives in a futuristic dystopian society where people have a set death date, or “expiry” date, and are given a silver collar with said date on it. In the story, the day of your death is decided by the “Device” and the date you get, gets imprinted onto a silver tag. I wanted to keep the silver tag on the poster because the tag symbolizes the silver noose the author is talking about and I wanted to write the title of the movie on the tag because I felt like it would have the same style as imprinting the ‘expiry’ date on it. The tagline I chose was “You don’t decide your fate. We do.” I chose that tagline because it
represents the fact that “they”, or more likely the government in the story, decides when you will meet your demise. It also represents this sort of eerie and intimidating feeling that you are not truly free because there is this superior being who is always right and will decide how long you get to live. The reason why I chose a picture of a boy walking alone in the rain is because on Gevan’s expiry date, he decides to look back on the three rules of that society; make the most out of life’s pleasure, reap the benefits of a beautiful day, and to be kind to one’s fellow man. Gevan thought the third rule was the easiest so he went out into town, when he left it had been raining. The story has stated that the rain will let up the day after Gevan is gone, and since “they don’t make mistakes”, this forecast has to be true. When Gevan reaches the town, after socializing with the store clerk, it stops raining, meaning “they” were wrong. The rain symbolizes the turning point in the story where Gevan realizes that since they made a mistake with the weather forecast, his expiry date could be wrong too, thus causing him to actually want to live out the rest of his life.

Is it justifiable to inflict the death penalty on individuals who have committed murder? As majority would have it, yes. There are many arguments in favor of capital punishment. Some of these include taking a murderer out of this world once and for all, and saving money that would be spent on them if they were given a life sentence, as well as the majority rule of citizens of the United States wishing it to stay. In Truman Capote’s nonfiction novel, In Cold Blood, Dick and Perry were assigned the death penalty for the cruel murders of four members of the Clutter family in a small town in Kansas. Not only did this pair of men deserve what they got, but it is also better for the state that they were executed.
This poster was executed by Cornelius Hicks for the American Red Cross in 1928, shortly after World War I. It is recruiting poster for volunteer nurses/ mother dressed in a white nurses outfit with a white hat and the Red Cross symbol on the front and red cap. This figure is the lightest and most prominent figure in the illustration drawing mediate attentions to her and her motherly features. The nurse’s right hand is open and stretched as
On my first reading of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", I found the short story extremely well done and the author, successful at getting her idea across. Gilman's use of imagery and symbolism only adds to the reality of the nameless main character's sheltered life and slow progression into insanity or some might say, out of insanity.
In the opening title sequence of The Man with the Golden Arm (1955), the audience sees horizontal and vertical white lines moving against a black background. Then a distorted arm appears from the top of the frame and the ominous white lines no longer appear to be random but instead signify the tip of a syringe. The film follows the life of a jazz musician played by Frank Sinatra as he battles with a heroin addiction. The subject of the film was controversial at the time and Bass created an innovative title sequence to match the film’s controversial
“A Story about the Body”, a prose poem by Robert Hass, is literally about a man who supposedly loves a woman but then finds out about her health conditions and then changes his mind. This poem, when I read it, was more like a short story than a poem. The poem uses imagery and a variety of adjectives which allow the reader to put themselves in the story as if they were watching it happen.

Fourteen thousand. That is the estimated number of Sudanese men, women and children that have been abducted and forced into slavery between 1986 and 2002. (Agnes Scott College, http://prww.agnesscott.edu/alumnae/p_maineventsarticle.asp?id=260) Mende Nazer is one of those 14,000. The thing that sets her apart is that she escaped and had the courage to tell her story to the world. Slave: My True Story, the Memoir of Mende Nazer, depicts how courage and the will to live can triumph over oppression and enslavement by showing the world that slavery did not end in 1865, but is still a worldwide problem.
With the current fluctuations in currency value, it has become necessary to come up with a safer way of storing wealth. Inflation causes loss to creditors as well as debtors. To curb this loss, it is important to consider safer ways of investing your money such as purchasing precious metals. Among the most valuable metals in the current market are gold, platinum, silver and palladium bullion coins. To help in identifying the most suitable venture, here is an extensive evaluation of various bullions.
What makes a short story great? Great characters? A great plot? Whatever it is, it does not have as much time to develop as a novel does. However, in limited space, author Edgar Allan Poe creates a brilliant, suspenseful, and brain wracking story. "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" begins by comparing the analytical mind to the game of chess. Eventually, Poe ties in the occurrences of a bizarre incident with a flashback to 18--. Through analyzing the scene and using clues and witnesses' testimonies, a character of great analytical power solves a murder mystery that no one else can even remotely get a grasp on. The story may sound ordinary at first, but upon the completion of the novel, a doubtful reader can change his mind. Edgar Allan Poe's utilization of different literary and writing techniques and his unique development of the story allow readers to indulge in "The Murders in the Rue Morgue".

I chose the story Boogeyman because it shows romance, intense emotions, character in distress and supernatural. Boogeyman is full of emotions romance and supernatural objects. Some emotions are negative and some are positive. This story shows romance because it talks about how they got married and got pregnant.
Sacrifice is something that many people have to go through make even though the outcome might not be great. However at what cost? In all the stories written by Yiyun Li, a common theme that was entwined with the story was sacrifice. Throughout the stories, the characters are faced with obstacles that test whether they’re going to give up everything they have in order to help the people that are dear to them to succeed.
