Theatre has always been a topic of interest in my life. I would watch movies and be more intrigued by character choices, make-up, costumes, and background instead of the actual movie itself. I would find myself thinking of things I would have done different in a film, especially films that were based off of books. So, in the 5th grade, at Handley Elementary, I made the decision to enter SASA middle school in the Theatre concentration. I really liked Theatre, but I eventually grew tired of being on stage. I enjoyed things like critiquing monologue pieces, building sets, being part of the stage crew, and analyzing scripts more than actually performing. In the 10th grade, I was assigned to be the assistant director of a play entitled “The Rope Swing”, which was part of the fall production at SASA in 2012. Since then, I have assistant directed three shows and I’ve fallen in love with directing.
A Director is someone who takes a written script, a feature film, or a television show and a personal vision and they turn it into an audio-visual for an audience. This person has responsibility for the overall creative and practical interpretation of the piece they have chosen to work on, taking into account the budget and physical constraints of the production. They are involved throughout the entire process, from the design and pre-production stages and rehearsal right through to the final performance. Directors also work closely with their creative and production teams, the performers and the producer to create a performance that will connect with the audience. Therefore, they need to be able to coordinate effectively across a wide range of disciplines and with an artistic vision. Some directors also double as writers, designers and perfo...

...quire the same skills that a director’s career entails, such as communication skills. So, if directing doesn’t work out, you can transfer your skills into another career field.
A director works long days, for weeks at a time. It’s a stressful career that requires good communication skills and self-determination. You’ll get frustrated when things don’t work out as planned, and you’ll get tired of certain projects. You have to start little and work your way to the top, but once you get there, it’s worth it. Some people will grow to hate you, and others will love you. People will come and see the projects that you produce. They’ll laugh, cry, get upset, show their feelings, and they’ll applaud. The most rewarding part of directing is being able to see the vision, the hard work, the stress, the frustration, all come together at once as the final production itself.
In this area of theatre i have learned more about brainstorming, character position, the effectiveness of music, the effectiveness of light and at what darkness and more about character goals and character formation both physical and vocal.
A crew includes a screenwriter, whose job it is to provide the written blueprint version of the entire film. This is basically the starting point for any movie. Next there is the producer. There are many types of producers; executive producers, co-producers, assistant producers and line producers. They all do very different things. Some are the producers are responsible for raising the funds for the movie while others are responsible for the production that goes on during the filming of the movie and still other producers are in charge of what physically goes on the set. Then it is time for the director. The director is in charge of the actors. The director works with the actors to visually bring to life what was written on the screenplay (Fortunato, Who Does What on a Film). Now the idea needs to come together. The idea of writing, “what you know” is not always true and writing, “what you come to know” is in fact a more accurate way to write. Other good ways to formulate ideas are to use existing plays, novels, short stories, life stories, new articles, or even past TV shows and film. When using existing work a person needs to make sure that one secures the copyrights before starting write. Securing the copyrights does not mean one is finished yet. Now a person needs...
If a director has a certain vision for his or her film, they will rely on the music supervisor to get that vision shown. However the music supervisor must keep in mind the film’s music budget, making him or her an important mediator of creativity and commerce. There isn’t quite another job that must regulate between the two so immensely. The music supervisor also not only listens to the directors input, but must choose the music themselves that they believe will fit into a certain scene. A music supervisor must be able to look at a scene, understand the mood and emotions conveyed during the scene, and find a song that encompasses that feeling. Therefore, an understanding of film and music theory is needed in order to elicit the emotional reaction that the film wants to show. This process is an incredibly creative one that is vital to the quality of a film or television
This is the result of growing up in the age of movies being credited to the director with the image they have created for themselves. “In the world of movie-making, the director is the key and quite rightly so. The director is responsible for the overall vision of the movie. The director puts together the movie, giving literal direction and taking full responsibility for the final product” (B. 2016). This innovation and personalization of film from auteurs are what is moving the film industry to

When someone goes to watch a play, they are usually focused around the actors. Never really reminding them or thinking about all the other jobs and efforts that are used to put together his production. It is often looked past, that the whole play was thought up by a director. What they are watching was something that a director had to envision. The director is the boss of the play. They are physically directing what the actors and actresses need to do. But being a theatre director is not just about telling actors what to do during scenes. Being a theatre director means having a vision and something unique that you have to say. But instead of talking or writing what you have to say, you make a visual reference that actually shows and plays out emotions of what you are trying to say. An old high school drama teacher states, “Being a director means trying to control what is, at times, uncontrollable. It’s like trying to coordinate something that is next to impossible, but when you do it right, there’s no better feelings.”(Gratzer 2014). Being a good theatre director is kind of a mix of a poet and a general. You have to be part poet so you can have the unique message which you are trying to tell through emotions and sight. But you have to have the mix with a general because you have to tell your actors what to do, how to do it, and unite them to make them get your message out as clear as possible. Also having enough perseverance and patience to make sure that this long-term project will be seen all the through. “Being a Director requires great creative vision, dedication and commitment. Directors are ultimately responsible for .. success or failure." (http://www.creativeskillset.org/) Directing a play has three main phases, the fir...

Directing Television programs requires hardwork and dedication and this involves taking some risks about your life too because as a television director you have to work with different people of different characters and when people are on stage performing they have to work according to your directions. People become tense on stage and they sometimes become frustrated easily by being asked to repeat the same thing so many times and some end up losing temper and they can sometime injure the director both emotionally and physically. There is never free time for television directors, instead of paying more attention to the family needs they devote so much time to their work because of the artistic ideology they posses, wherever they are they should be thinking about how they will direct in the next project and what new things to add on that particular program to put a new look hence giving inadequate attention to their partners/family. “Rafkin recounts how his directing of temperamental actors, as he confronted their frustrations and dodged their blows, made life on TV set a world unto itself. Indeed, having a good sense of humor helped him survive three divorces and as many open-heart surgeries ( Alan Rafkin, Tales from TV's Most Prolific Sitcom Director).
Actors had no direction as to where their careers were headed. They simply clocked in for work everyday and listened to the director and Studio CEO. Actors played the parts, which they were told to play in order to continue receiving a paycheck. Screenwriters were in the same
An Artistic Directors job is important not only in a dance company, theater company, film or television but can have different responsibilities depending on the creative field and organization. The Artistic Directors job for a dance company would be under the direction of the Executive Director and would help with the artistic mission of the company. They would be responsible for conceiving, developing and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the organization. According to James Fenton, founder of Blimp Creative tells Creative Bloq Staff, “As an Artistic Director you must be a leader, someone who inspires and guides the vision of the design team” (2016) but the same rings true for any director in a creative field.
I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of how theater is more than a mere performance, but rather an artform with nuance and depth. My knowledge on theatrical styles has expanded and some of my favorites we have studied in class are Brechtian and Chinese theatre styles. I grew up participating in musical theatre, but never had the opportunity to truly learn the history and details of the craft. After studying RENT, I am inspired by the various possibilities for theater beyond acting, singing, and dancing. Theater can be used for activism or as a form of commemoration. Theater is relevant by communicating issues to the world. Theater is so much more than a dramatic presentation. The theater that I have come to appreciate the most are the performances that relay a greater purposeful message about society amidst the theatricals on
A film director is someone who directs the making and production of a film. They control the visual and artistic aspects of the film. It is their vision that is voiced in the film, they make the screenplay come to life so to say. While at the same time, regulating the crew and actors so that their vision can truly be shown in the film. In terms of a documentary director, it slightly differs.
unemployment; competition for roles is often intense. While formal training is helpful, experience and talent are more important for success in this field. Because of erratic employment, earnings for actresses are relatively low.
