In the growing field of Public Administration, so many issues and policies are being addressed or need to be addressed. Public Administration being my future career there are many policies that I not only find interesting but also are dear to my heart. As a public administrator, you have the power to influence so many areas of policy from a political standpoint and as a citizen. “Public administrators work at all levels of government, both at home and abroad, and they manage nonprofit organizations, associations, and interest groups of all kinds. Human trafficking is an epidemic that has only worsened over the years with the growth of social media and Internet. It has become a rampant problem that is not just happening in foreign countries but right here on United States soil. The numbers are astonishing, “Human trafficking and other forms of extreme exploitation, including forced labor and forced marriage, now collectively under the terminological umbrella as modern slavery are reported to affect an estimated 40.3 million people globally, with 29.4 million considered to be in situations of forced labor” (Zimmerman & Kiss, 2017). When you first think of human trafficking many think of prostitution or dangerous predators, but human trafficking encompasses many different types of abuse as noted earlier. While prosecutors are beginning to arrest and charge, more for crimes of human trafficking many of those victims are Unites States citizens. Although, non-citizens are more susceptible than Unites States citizens to become victims of labor trafficking. This policy must be changed, victims are afraid to come forward because of their legal status within the country. The government does support companies and charities that are helping to stop human trafficking. “International Justice Mission is an organization engaged in counter-trafficking. They assist in investigations and prosecutions for human traffickers and identify, rescue, and provide after care for victims” (Greene & Beinhart, 2013). Support and even federal funds for agencies like the Justice Mission is a start for our government to begin stopping these crimes. Another step that many law enforcement agencies are taking on a smaller local level is by having specialized units within the departments.
