Introduction For over the past decade there has been a rivalry between Apple and Windows computers. There are strong arguments to be made by both sides. In this report we analyze the differences between Apple and Windows. The key factors we examined are price, user-friendliness, hardware, customizability, variety, and future outlook of the companies. After analysis we recommend that a college freshman buy an Apple laptop over Windows laptop if they have the available funds. What College Freshman Need For most freshmen it’s their first year away from home, family, and security. They are both excited and terrified for the upcoming classes. In today’s world a laptop is a lifesaver. With Microsoft Office, iTunes and the Internet they might just make it through. So which laptop do they choose? Well that depends highly on what they need. Freshmen need a laptop that is easy to use and will allow them to complete their work. And when the paper is due and it’s 11:58pm they had better have a laptop that is easy to work/maneuver. A lightweight laptop is also a must when darting from classes or just in the small confinements of a dorm room. Ultimately, freshmen need to buy what is best for their individual needs and desires. Jeffrey S. Nevid and Amy Pastva, found a correlation between buyer’s personalities and their choice of brand, in a study they performed (PC vs. Mac). They discovered that college students who chose Mac were more into “style, and were cool, youthful and exciting”. Students who preferred PCs valued “price, and [wanted a computer that was] good for gaming”. So what do college freshman need? It depends largely on who the freshman is. It used to be that the choice between a Mac and a PC was pretty clear.
Apple Inc. originated out of California in 1976. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak dropped out of college together to begin making technology in their garage. Apple’s technology skyrocketed becoming one of the top technology producing companies. They fell short in the nineties though, companies began to catch up and now there was more competition than before. Apple released their ipod in 2001, putting them back in the leadof the technology industry (The History of Apple). Presently, Apple is still exceeding other companies in the technology industry, such as Microsoft, Blackberry, Google and Hewlett Packard. Microsoft is Apple’s largest competitor, which is revealed through the Dupont analysis and other activity ratios, these particular ratios also make known that Apple’s numbers are not all accurate.
These Apple products including the Mac are not only regular gadgets for use at home but they have also made its mark even in school grounds and workplaces for the company that created it made sure it’s also appealing to students and businessmen.
As a young college student walking into a Best Buy to purchase a laptop for college can be a little intimidating. There are many things to consider such as hard drive, what processors are the best, which screen has the best resolution, or would you rather build a computer that best suits you. The options are endless and in most cases it can become overwhelming, due to the rapid expansion in technology a variety of products that are available have increased dramatically in the past 7 years. Some of the most important criteria that should be considered when evaluating these products are portability, performance, and price. The MacBook Air is an interesting product, because it isn’t top of the line in any of these criteria. In fact, it has a balance of all three that have made it one of the top selling products of recent. Of course no laptop is made to run the same, but that is what makes this specific different than others.
All might think that a PC is awesome, but is not called Windows for nothing. When they say Windows they mean Windows. Macintosh has been known for it’s simplicity. Windows users say Mac has no games. I say to them there are games, but if you want to “play games” get a game system. Macs give a new vision in the computer industry.

The invention of computers has made a huge change in human civilization and society, by changing the way people think. Computers replaced jobs and tedious repetitive thoughts that were done by human originally. People became more and more reliant on computers, and thus, computers became essential to our lives. Computers can manufacture products quickly, and eliminate possible human errors. As technology progresses, new ideas have been brought into computer to make them perform more efficiently. Also, scientists and engineers tend to make things “smaller”, so we can enjoy the benefits from electronic devices anywhere and anytime. Therefore, size and efficiency are two main points for consumers. Desktop computer and laptop computer are representatives for each of these concepts. Although desktops and laptops come from the same origin, they are different in many ways.
Windows based computers are cheaper, and more easily upgradeable than Macintosh systems. The reason for this being that Apple has exclusive rights to the hardware made specifically for their computers. Windows based system hardware is produced by literally thousands of manufacturers. This, of course, means competition, which in turn lowers prices. Macintosh systems are sold (primarily) as a whole system, meaning that the consumer ends up with what Apple has decided should be included in the system. Windows systems, however, can be built to the consumers needs, or by the consumer themselves. They could select which component would be best for them for the price they would pay for it. Most importantly, with a Windows based system consumers could select what components they wish to have based on what they might pay for them.
The similarities and the differences between Mac operating system (OS X) and Windows 10 operating system.
From 1980 to 1996, Apple’s competitive range in the PC industry was rocky. Although Apples products were unique and well built, they were overpriced compared to competing products from IBM and others. As competitor prices dropped, Apple prices stayed the same and the company saw a decline in sales as customers opted to purchase from its competitors. John Sculley, former CEO of Apple, took many steps to improve the company’s competitive advantage. One of those steps was to compete with price by producing a low-cost computers that appealed to a mass-market. The second step was to form an alliance with rivals IBM and Novel in order to create new operating systems and applications...

Among the four laptops that I analyzed, I only personally knew two of the owners. Knowing these owners and not the other two, allowed me to observe their laptops differently. This is because the forms of writing that I saw on my friends’ laptop cases and skins were somewhat predictable based on what I already knew about them and their interests. However, the forms of writing and designs that I analyzed of the people that I
