The Respiratory System is a process by which we take in oxygen and give off of carbon dioxide. It encompasses the breathing of a human being which is in one form of respiration, called external respiration. We have to perform this function in order to maintain life. Nonetheless, there are several complications associated with the Respiratory system; commonly bronchitis and Asthma.

The symptoms include chest discomfort, wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing up mucus. There are two types of Bronchitis, acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is also known as a chest cold and lasts around three weeks. Chronic bronchitis is a productive cough that last for three months or more per year for at least two years. (2011)

A person can try to hold his breath for a while, but soon reaches a point when they can no longer do so. In human beings and animals, breathing continues constantly without conscious effort.
