The Relationship Between Professional Wrestling and Literature
The theme of wrestling is one that relates to literature directly. Many famous authors have written about wrestling or fighting. Wrestling relates to life in the storylines it produces. This theme can relate to any PSAT words that are negative or positive. Those are just a few of the numerous reasons why wrestling is an excellent choice as a theme.
Wrestling is a very interesting topic that many readers enjoy reading about even if they are not wrestling fans. Mick Foley is a former wrestler in the World Wrestling Federation. He is now the comissioner there and schedules all the matches. Earlier this year he wrote an autobiography titled Have a Nice Day! A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks. The book was a New York Times #1 Bestseller and sold over 700,000 copies. He tells about how he got started wrestling in his backyard and eventually rose to superstar status when he became the WWF Champion in December 1998. He tells in the book about getting injured and how wrestling is not as fake as everyone believes it is. Inside it lists his numerous injuries. Similar books have been written by other wrestling superstars in other wrestling federations.
Wrestling is a mirror image of life. Many times wrestling superstars will get injured while fighting an opponent. In June of 1998 Mick Foley was the persona Mankind. He was booked to wrestle a wrestler called the Undertaker. The match was to take place in a steel cage. At the last moment Mankind decided to climb up the cage and fight on top. While he was up there, Undertaker threw him off of the twenty foot cage and Mankind dislocated his left shoulder. They took him off on a stretcher but he battled back only to have a tooth driven through the roof of his mouth up into his nose. He could not call time out during the match although he most likely wanted to. He had to keep wrestling eventhough he suffered from a concussion from the fall off of the cage. That relates directly to life in the fact that you cannot call time out if you get hurt, the world will not stop for something, it just keeps going and people have to just go with the flow.
When the father slaps his son, he is doing it out of fear that his son will be better than him. He is scared that there will always be someone better than him. He used violence so that it would not seem like his son was better than him. Inside he was starting to realize that his son is better than him. He did not want those three hundred people to think that he was not the best. Crutcher writes, “Three-year three-sport letterman at Coho High School in the mid-1950s and number two wrestler at 177 at the university of oklahoma after that. Number two is mysteriously absent from his version.” In the father’s wrestling career he was always number two, and not the best. He is scared of that, especially if it is his son who is better than him. This proves that the father is a fearful character because he is scared of being weak, and not being the
Theme is the subject of talk, a topic, or morals that the author is trying to get readers to comprehend. When reading an excerpt, the theme is not directly stated in the text, so you must dig deeper into the context to understand the matter trying to be portrayed. In both Angela's Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a like theme of struggling through life’s complications. After reading the two different stories, we could select the theme from using character, events, and the setting.
Wrestlers would be away from their family for the majority of the year. They would only return home when and if they were injured. Former wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper has been mentally affected by everything at once .According to Piper, "I experienced what we in the profession call the silent scream” (Behind Fun Façade…). The silence scream involves loneliness, drugs and pain. It has been overwhelming for wrestlers, mentally and physically to be able to accept everything that was going on in and out of the ring. The amount of pain that the wrestlers were in physically affected them mentally.
In conclusion, wrestlers should not cut weight rapidly or starve themselves. It can lead to psychological damage, damage to the wrestler’s current body, and their future health. They are willing to risk their lives, but we all should want them to rethink before they do such a thing. We need to show our care and compassion for saving a life. Coaches could take the next step and punish a wrestler for loosing weight too fast and make them sit out. Coaches should also educate the team on how to eat nutritiously and safely. All in all, the behavior of wrestlers has improved in the past twenty years, but there is more that everyone can do to help stop the cutting of weight.
I have many things that I love in this life, one of those things is wrestling. I have been wrestling for seven years and I have developed quite the passion and love for it. Wrestling has always been an interesting sport for me. Growing up in Oregon I watched my uncles wrestle in high school. I watched both of them win their state tournament in their respective weight classes, this is one of my fondest memories of my childhood. One of them went on to wrestle division one, I thought this was the coolest thing in the world. I looked up to my uncles and wanted to be just like them. I did not always wrestle though. The process of pursing my dream as of becoming a wrestler started of with basketball, then went to a rocky start, then being on Worland High School wrestling team.
Themes are central to the plot of any story. In fact, themes are the purpose to an author writing anything. By definition, a theme is the subject or topic of a work. Some themes, like that in “A Good Man is Hard to Find” are more obvious, while others, such as, “Hills Like White Elephants” are less clear and require readers to do some deep reading and critical thinking in order to identify the purpose of it, and through strong reading techniques, audiences will find valuable lessons embedded within the themes can enlighten and even revive our thinking.
Theme is the underlying power beneath a story; the “force” that makes the whole experience worthwhile. Theme is “an idea or message that the writer wishes to convey” (Holt 874). A theme can be either stated or implied. A stated theme is a theme “that the other expresses directly in his work (protic.net); an implied theme is a theme “that is not directly stated in the work” (protic.net). As mentioned before, both of these stories have an implied theme, which now is revealed to mean that the author of the story insinuated it. Themes exist in all stories (verbal or written) and can be long, short, true or false. “Earth people will beat out any other intelligent life-form in any and all competitions” is a theme, but “good always beats evil” is one too. “Once upon a time . . .” stories have themes too, except they are more one-dimensional. For example,...
Before the company started their drug testing policies the death of wrestlers were increasing. Wresters would admit to using drugs during the time they were working for World Wrestling Entertainment. Levy stated, He used steroids and more than 200 pain pills daily before he kicked the habit a few years ago”(Behind Fun Façade…). This was the way to help wrestlers from feeling the pain but to also keep ...

This can be a rewarding and curative experience, not only for the writer, but for those readers with similar concerns." And according to the article “Why the Theme of a Story Matters” by: Novel writing help” Theme Adds Dimension to a Story, Theme Helps Readers to Understand, Theme Is Curative.
Ever since the previous season I had my standards set high. I had placed fifth, which was all right for the time being, but I knew as time went on I needed to push myself and increase my level of wrestling. I decided that I would do whatever it took, through thick and thin. I traveled to small local tournaments in Colorado, and a couple out-of-state tournaments, I even traveled to Delaware. It didn't really matter how I did at these tournaments because it was just all practice until February. So, I lifted and wrestled just about every chance I got. It was all in preparation for one match, six minutes.
When I was a Freshman, I was curious about the sport of Wrestling. When I tried out for it, I was eager to learn more about it. It is not just rolling around on the mat it is a form of combat using grappling techniques such as throws, takedowns, pins, holds, and joint locks. In addition into this sport, there are a variety of ways to use these grappling techniques. Wrestling has many rich memories of it is history with a variety of wrestling styles and rules.
Truly, without the hundreds of fans that swear allegiance to wrestling, there simply would be no sport. The wrestlers go about entertaining the masses with outrageous matches and just a tough of cheesy drama. As proof of this, Putterman states:
For an abundance of authors, the driving force that aids them in creation of a novel is the theme or number of themes implemented throughout the novel. Often times the author doesn’t consciously identify the theme they’re trying to present. Usually a theme is a concept, principle or belief that is significant to an author. Not only does the theme create the backbone of the story, but it also guides the author by controlling the events that happen in a story, what emotions are dispersed, what are the actions of characters, and what emotions are presented within each environment to engage the readers in many
