College is an expensive investment nowadays, and financial aid is not enough to cover everything that is going to be invested. That is why many college students get a part-time job while attending college. The main reason why students prefer to work a part-time is because they benefit in some important fields, not only with expenses. College students who work part time most likely are to benefit on transportation, time management, and have workplace experience.
College students who are employed with a part-time will most likely have money to afford transportation. Transportation is very important, many people are struggling to get around and without a job it is even harder to find transportation. College students who do not have a job will often ask for a ride since they cannot afford to pay expenses like insurance bills or gas. A car is very important and it is a need in most places. College students that work part-time would not have to worry about paying transportation expenses and do not have to depend on getting a ride from somebody else. One of the big expenses is car insurance and since most college students are new drivers, the prices on auto insurance are pretty high. Everyone needs to pay auto insurance in order to drive, and those who do not have a job will less likely to afford something like this. Also, the demand on gas is going up and as more people use gas, the more gas prices go up. Therefore students who work part-time will be able to at least afford gas money to move around back and forth.
Although transportation is not a big issue it really is a big benefit for college students, and having a part-time job will make transportation way easier. Transportation is a benefit for students who do have a p...

... does not work during college. Job experience is great and benefits in many ways. College students who do not have a part-time will never know what it feels like to have a job and many employers look for people with job experiences.
Students who have a part-time job will benefit from much more than just these three qualities. The best thing about a job is that it gives time to rest the mind and forget all about school for a moment. Many people stress out since they think too much about school assignments and how to get it done. Transportation, time management and job experiences all have varies benefits within them and without a job many people will not get these benefits like people who do work and attend school. In this case, college students who work part time are most likely to benefit on transportation, time management, and have a workplace experience.
In Andrew Braaksma 's essay Some Lessons From The Assembly Line he provides the perspective of a college student learning life lessons from his summer job in a factory and how it showed him not to take his ability to have a higher education for granted. While most students never give it a second thought about not going to college, Braaksma learned from the hard work and low pay to appreciate the opportunities he has. Most college age students have never experienced the struggles of what real life can throw at them. Long hours with low wages, the physically taxing nature of some of these jobs and lack of job security. Having myself worked construction jobs for many years before going back to college his essay could prove invaluable to many students.
“They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same” Kurt Cobain once said. However, would it be a good choice to be different and accept going to college in an earlier age instead of attending to a normal high school? Of course this has been greatly disputed; due to the fact that many students have a hard time deciding which option is more convenient and would actually lead them to accomplish their goals. Even though there are many early college schools that would offer an Associate’s degree without having to pay anything, there is people that would prefer to pay their career by themselves and have a normal life as most high scholars do without having to worry that much. Of course that going earlier to college would be challenging but it can bring students better opportunities in life, and also help them mature more rapidly so they could be able to understand what life is in reality.
Summary: In the essay, “Part-time Employment Undermines a Student’s Commitment to School” by Laurence Steinberg, it explains how studies show that teenagers that work while attending school are more likely to loose their commitment to school. Steinberg tells the effects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.
Over the past years, getting a college degree has been the pathway to a settled career. College has been a reason for people to carry on after high school. Now that tuition has been raised, getting a degree seems to drain students with more loans and could be in debt. College has been raised to the point where people rather start working at a minimum wage than continuing with school. Working in a part-time job would be an easier choice rather than pursuing a degree.
In the article “ Is College Still Worth it? Clearly, new data says” by David Leonheardt on the website Nytimes.com says that people are asking if college is worth all the debt. People with college degrees made 98 percent more an hour then the people with high school diplomas in 2013. They made 89 percent more five years earlier, 85 percent more a decade earlier, and 64 percent more in the early 1980s. The increase of college graduates will shrink the pay gap and recent growth of the pay that has been very important. △People returned to college when the Great Recession began. We need to emphasize these shortfalls because the news media has some responsibility that many people believe that a bachelor’s degree doesn’t guarantee success. Many people
Firstly the most common reason why people go to college is to be able to get a decent job that pays good money right? According to “Actually, college is very much worth it” people with some college but no degree earns a median of $712 weekly while a college graduate
Although college students have to work while in college to pay for tuition, they should not. Working while in college can cause harm to your education. Quentin Fottrell (2013), from MarketWatch, states that, “Nearly four out of five U.S. students… work while in school, survey by Citigroup and Seventeen magazine found, with the average working student putting in 19 hours a week during
As a full time enrolled student at a 4 year college I am greatly interested in this issue and to answer the question of “so what?” and “who cares?” this is an issue because this affects us college students and prospective college students so as to be fully aware of our situations and educate those that are not very knowledgeable on the facts that support my claim. I think I can use my personal situations to best explain why I think college is worth it. I have been a student at the university of Texas at Arlington for 2 years now and I changed my major form biology to economics my second semester because it was then I realized that I didn’t have the passion for biology or to end up being a doctor. I have been a makeup artiste for about a year and a half now and I absolutely love what I do, I don’t just have the passion to do makeup but also to someday be the creator and owner of a makeup company. I felt economics would give me the management skills to be able to start up and run my makeup company. Without a college degree, I don’t know how my dreams and aspirations would come true. Yes the advantages are really appealing but a lot of people see only ...
The last thing most college students desire is to acquire more debt by taking out student loans to continue their education. The more debt college students encounter and leave school with, the greater the hindrance they have when they begin their career after school. Also, college prices tend to increase every year making it more expensive if you postpone your education. People in low-wage jobs are not motivated to continue
There are a lot of theories when it comes to students and jobs. Many state that students do poorly and are distracted while others say it does nothing to students. There is a certain theory by Professor Laurence Steinberg in which he states its affecting students negatively. In “Part-Time Employment Undermines Students’ Commitment to School”, Professor Laurence Steinberg explains the conflict between school and work. Steinberg states that students who work during the school year tend to get lower grades in school than those who do not work. In my opinion, I feel as though his research may have had its mistakes because he only did the research on high school students’ instead of college students; doing the research on college students would of helped Steinberg get more a accurate result.
It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Knowing that school is aways and should be a priority, students should work while in high school because working helps students be more responsible with their lives, help them practice time managment, and also helps students see and experience the real world.
Nowadays, more students do part-time job during their school days to earn money or to have practical experience. In this essay, I am going to compare and contrast the different attitudes toward students doing part-time job in China and USA. In China, there are only a few types of part-time job, such as shopkeeper and working in factories. However, in USA, it is possible for students to work in various kinds of shop or even work as intern in companies. As a result, there are
Working a job while in college can give a student great time management skills. The years of work experience can also lead the student to being successful to getting another job and having good business skills. Research has shown that working less than 20 hours can actually help give a student an edge in college when compared to a student who does not work at all. "Part-time jobs seem to improve academic performance. Research shows students who work no more than 20 hours a week have higher grades and are more likely to graduate college than both those who don 't work at all and those who put in too many hours." Having a job can greatly help out with future financial issues as
A summer or part-time job pays more than money. Even though the money earned is important, the work experience gained has a greater long-term value when one applies for a full-time job after graduation from school. Job application documents (the application blank and the personal data sheet) ask you to list jobs you have held and to list as references the names of individuals who supervised your work. (Gieseking and Plawin, 1994, 22)
College in the United States is rapidly changing: more students are attending college, many are doing so online and at community colleges, which is making people question the cost of a traditional college education. It is my belief, along with three-fourths of entering freshman, that those students who are attending a traditional college are viewing college as an economic investment and that the reason to attend college is to get a good job (Bok 281). Part of that economic investment is meant for students to develop themselves. In my case I attended a tradition four year college to grow as a person and to give myself the best chance of getting a good job right out of college. A college education should provide a balance of personal exploration and job preparation because generally people are going to college to grow as a person and become prepared for the professional world.
